Dear FatherI'm sorry to hear that you weren't re-elected president of the Nutty Professor and Mad Scientist Brotherhood of Greater Strangetown, but look on the bright side. You had a great term in office and you can always be president again in the future. I did warn you not to expect consecutive terms; there are a number of scientists who would like to hold that position and now that Dr Seavey-Holldum has retired -- and since neither of his older two sons have an interest in the position -- there is bound to be some competition for the position of president. Well, at least until Dr Seavey-Holldum's youngest son graduates. I hope your defeat doesn't put you off helping at the annual NPMSBGS science fair. You know how much you enjoy it.
I'm writing to let you know the good news. I'm expecting again. Oh, I know that Alek and Zil are barely toddlers, but Joe and I talked about it and we really don't want our children too spread apart in years. I'm hoping I have twins again, but I'll be happy with just a single little one too. Joe's incredibly excited at the idea of being a father again. He has several brothers and sisters, and I've always dreamed of having a big family. Your grandchildren are growing by leaps and bounds. Little Zil is a happy baby and smart as a whip, just like her grandpa.Every time I turn around I find her chattering away at her bunny head. She really loves that thing.I guess that's why she caught on so fast when Joe sat down one day to help her with her first words. Before you knew it she was popping out Dada and Mama left and right. She's a regular little chatterbox now.As for Alek. Well...He's a bit of a stinker. Ha. Mother's prerogative to call him that. He's a typical boy.Every time I turn around he's getting into something.Luckily the dogs love him and are always keeping an eye on him.Even better, our puppies grew up so now there are more dogs to help keep him out of trouble. Joe and I did decide that 6 dogs were a bit much for the house though, so we found good homes for two of the puppies and kept the others (a female named Corriedale and a male named Dorset). Four are still plenty, but they usually stay outside, thankfully. But back to your grandson. Alek is a stubborn little bugger too. But Joe's patient and seems to know just what to get the lil guy to learn all those skills every toddler should know.Oh, I know what you're going to say Father, and I've heard all your arguments and complaints about Joe before. You think that my Joe is just some "uneducated buffoon from a backwater old world village that has yet to even make it into the last century." May I remind you that the 'uneducated buffoon' I married was a marine biologist? He's a master of the high seas now, with a small fishing fleet at his command. He named his flagship the Lulzipawp II, after our daughter. Of course, he did name our daughter after his first ship, so I guess the name has come full circle now.As for coming from a 'backwater old world village'. I'm actually rather fond of how Joe had his home decorated when I moved in. A combination of Old Country and gypsy, with modern conveniences slipped in here and there. Having grown up in the sterile laboratory you call a home, I find our little trailer warm and cozy though I'm afraid that when our family grows much larger, we'll need to look into a larger, less mobile, home.I will admit that my dear husband's fashion sense is a bit... lacking... but we're working on that. We've had some discussions on how the children should dress too but, well, money is tight right now. Joe's mother and grandmother and others in his family love to knit and sew, and they've sent us package after package of things for the little ones. I'm not one to turn down a gift from the heart, and if it means that all the money we would normally be spending on clothes can in turn be put into college funds for Alek and Zil, I'm all for it. But despite his eccentricities, I love my husband. I'm sure he feels I'm a bit odd at times too. Like when I cried for days when my stylist ruined my hair. I know it will grow back in, but I felt I looked terrible. Joe assured me I looked just as beautiful as the day he first met me. *sigh* I really adore that man. He's just so sweet and he's wonderful with the children.Speaking of children, I really must go Father. Alek and Zil have a birthday coming up soon and I really wish they knew how to walk before them. Zil's been picking it up like wildfire, but Joe's been working with Alek for days. Let me know how things go with the science fair.Take care. I love you.Del
