KENTUCKY CREATIVE ARTISTS CLUB

 

CONSTITUTION

 

ARTICLE I – NAME

 

            This organization shall be called KENTUCKY CREATIVE ARTS CLUB. 

 

ARTICLE II – PURPOSE

 

            Section 1.  The purpose of this organization shall be to provide an opportunity for the people of the community to express themselves through creative arts, and provide an outlet for individual arts and talents.  The Kentucky Creative Arts Club shall stand for selected forms of the Fine Arts as designated in the Bylaws.

 

ARTICLE III – OFFICERS

           

            Section 1.  The officers shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

 

            Section 2   The Nominating Committee shall present a slate of officers at the October Meeting.

 

            Section 3.  Election of officers shall take place at the November Meeting, and the term of office shall be for one year.  The year shall run from January 1 to December 31.  Nominations from the floor will be accepted prior to balloting.

 

            Section 4.  To be elected to office, a member must receive a majority of the votes of members present.

 

ARTICLE IV – DUTIES OF OFFICERS

 

            Section 1.  The President shall preside over all meetings and appoint and instruct committees, and serve as advisor for the incoming President, as well as enforce all Bylaws.

 

            Section 2. The Vice President shall assume the duties of the President during the absence of that officer, and act as the Program Chairman.

 

            Section 3.  The Secretary, or his/her designee, shall keep minutes of all meetings, notify all members in advance of the date of the next meeting, keep record of attendance, provide the Membership Committee with quarterly attendance records, be responsible for necessary correspondence, and serve as advisor for the incoming Secretary.

 

            Section 4.  The Treasurer shall handle all monies and bank them under the name of the Club.  All checks must be signed by the Treasurer.  The Treasurer shall provide the Membership Committee each quarter the names of members in arrears of dues. The Treasurer shall serve as advisor for the incoming Treasurer.

 

  

ARTICLE V – MEETINGS

            The Club shall meet once per month.

 

ARTICLE VI – AMENDMENTS

 

            A proposed amendment to the Constitution or Bylaws shall be read at a regular meeting, and be voted upon at the next regular meeting of the Club.  It must receive a two-thirds majority of votes of the members present.

BYLAWS

 

 

ARTICLE I -- MEMBERSHIP

 

            Section 1.  An applicant for membership must be 18 years old or older and be sponsored by an active member of one year or more, or the Membership Committee.  The applicant must have attended two consecutive meetings and have shown a minimum of four works of his art.  The applicant will be accepted upon a majority vote of the members present. The applicant will not have voting privileges until granted membership.

 

            Section 2.  Obligations of all members:

a.       Dues shall be paid by the March meeting.  New members’ dues are payable upon acceptance into the club at the currently assessed fee, prorated after July.

b.       Serve on committees.

c.       Pay assessed fine for not bringing artwork to the meeting.

d.       A member in good standing is one whose dues are paid, and is participating and active.

 

Section 3.  Honorary membership shall be allowed.  Persons in this category shall have no voting rights nor will they be obligated to other membership duties.  Honorary membership shall be given upon a majority vote from the membership.

 

ARTICLE  II – ATTENDANCE

 

            Section 1.  Attendance will be noted by the Secretary at each meeting.

 

            Section 2.  Members missing five consecutive meetings will be contacted to ascertain that person’s intention concerning their membership.

 

ARTICLE III – DUES

 

            Section 1.  Dues shall be an annually assessed fee.

 

            Section 2.  Members who are absent one full year and have not paid their dues will be contacted and, if dues are not paid at that time, the member will be dropped from the membership roll. 

 

ARTICLE  IV  --  COMMITTEES AND THEIR DUTIES

 

            Section 1.  Standing committees shall be Membership, Public Relations, Executive, Program, Nominating, and Monthly Exhibition Committee.

 

            Section 2.  Duties of Membership Committee:

a.       Sponsor new members when necessary.

b.       Interview and conduct orientation of new members, and present them with a Membership Packet of pertinent information.

c.       Notify new members as to acceptance into club.  Right and duties of members are covered in BYLAWS, ARTICLE I – Section 3.

d.       Present new members to Club.

e.       Contact delinquent members.

 

Section 3.  Public Relations Committee duties:

a.       Inform media of Club’s activities.

 

Section 4.  Duties of Nominating Committee:

            Provide nominees for officers.

a.       Tabulate voting for officers when necessary.

b.       Committee shall consist of three members who may not serve two years consecutively.

 

Section 5.  Program Committee duties:

a.       Select programs of interest to the majority of members.

b.       Vice President shall serve as chairman.

 

Section 6.   Duties of the Executive Committee:

a.       The Executive Committee shall consist of all Officers and Committee Chairs, and shall meet quarterly or as needed.

b.       The Executive Committee is empowered to act out of order and suspend rules in emergency situations, with two-thirds majority vote of the Committee.

 

Section 7.  Duties of the Monthly Exhibition Committee:

a.       Set up exhibit.

b.       Arrange for voting.

c.       Count votes and put up ribbons.

d.       Determine if artist wants critique.

e.       Handle comment/critique time.

 

 

ARTICLE V – MONTHLY EXHIBITIONS

 

            Section 1.  Eligibility for Ribbons:

a.       Any member in good standing.

b.       Copied works will not be eligible for ribbons.

c.       Works must be in accepted media, framed and/or matted, or gallery wrapped.

 

Section 2.  Disqualification of exhibited artwork:

a.       Any copy will be disqualified by the Monthly Exhibition Committee if the work is objectionable to the Committee.

b.       The term ‘copy’ used in these Bylaws is defined as follows:  If two works are held up side-by-side and it can be reasonably believed that one is a literal facsimile of the other, and can be recognized as such, it may be considered a copy, regardless of medium.

 

Section 3.  Judging and Award Criteria:

a.       Group critique is encouraged, so as to present constructive criticism of strong and weak points of art shown. 

b.       Discussion of works is encouraged.  Works that are unfinished may be presented for advice.

c.       Any Club Member may withhold his or her work  from general critique and voting.

d.       Ribbons will normally be awarded during each meeting to winning art pieces within each category of competition.  Winners will be determined by vote of Club Members present. The Monthly Exhibition Committee will oversee the voting  All artists receiving ribbons will qualify for exhibition at the yearly show in February when the Club’s ‘Artist of the Year’ is selected.

e.       A minimum of two paintings must be entered in a category before a ribbon will be awarded.

f.        When there is only one work in a category, and if this occurs in two or more categories, they must be judged together.   However, any artist has the right to withdraw their work from this judging.

 

Section 4.  Acceptable two-dimensional media:  Oil, watercolor, graphics (charcoal, pencil, pen and ink, and crayon), acrylic, pastels, mixed media.  Three-dimensional art in acceptable media.

 

Section 5.  Artist/Artists of the Year competition:

a.       No substitution of selected work will be eligible.

b.       Selection will be made by member vote at the February meeting from the previous year’s artist/artists of the month winners.

c.       At the time of selection, all competitive works must be framed, if applicable.
