ATAVISTIC are perhaps the most well-known band to emerge from the Kent Hardcore Punk scene of the 80s, playing a chaotic hybrid of Crust/Grind. A planned split album with quintessential Grindcore scene-leaders NAPALM DEATH in 1986 never materialised (the NAPALM tracks were released as side 2 of their infamous debut album "Scum"), but they later released two 7" EPs, followed by an LP on Deaf Records (a division of the Peaceville Record label). The ultra-chaotic sound of their two EPs evolved into a slightly groovier Motorhead/Blues-tinged Thrash on the LP, complete with the unconventional (for Grindcore) addition of distorted harmonica solos. John was later tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. Some tracks can be heard on their MySpace fanpage.
