I was born and raised in the Bay Area of northern California. As a youth, I played soccer and my love for the game continues to this day. Also, in my youth I took 2 years piano lessons and I have loved playing and listening to music ever since. From playing the piano, I moved to playing the bass guitar, the lead guitar, and later the drums (in 2006). In High School, I was in several garage rock bands. Only one band was promising, but it broke up after the 2 lead guitarists got into a fight about a girl – I was the bass guitar player. My religious interests began when I was 17. I was challenged to read the Book of Mormon. As I read it, the Holy Spirit testified to me that the Book of Mormon was the Word of God. I eventually changed the “bad” things in my life and served a Mission in southern Germany for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I learned to play chess in about 1973 as a result of the chess "hype" that sweeped across the USA after Bobby Fischer won the World Chess Championship in 1972. However, I did not become serious about the game until I had finished High School. I attended and graduated from San Jose State University in 1996 with a BA in Civil Engineering, and received my professional Civil Engineering license (PE) in July 2000. Since 1992, I have worked with various government agencies as a Technician or Enigneer. I'm currently a Civil Engineer for local government in the Sacramento Area.
