London Chess Clasic.

The London Chess Classic is at the Olympia Conference Centre, Earls Court from 3rd to 11th December 2017. World champion Magnus Carlsen and most of the top players in the world are playing. There are live commentaries of all the games. It is well worth a visit, though best to buy tickets in advance. Your webmaster will be there on Monday 4th December.

Imperial College Central London Congress.

Martin had an excellent result winning the minor section of the November Imperial College Central London Congress.

Club Pre Season RapidPlay Tournament.

The club Pre Season RapidPlay Tournament was won by Dave, after starting with four straight wins. Brian was a clear second. See CrossTable.

We have been drawn away to Enfield I in the first round of the Finchley Cup.


Thanet congress.

Kevin scored 2½/5 in the open section of the Thanet congress including a win against an international master.
Ronnie Melhuish who moved to Herne Bay from this parish scored 2½/5 in the minor.


Club five minute Tournament.

Gavin won the Summer blitz five minute Swiss tournament on his first appearance. See CrossTable.

Kevin in the Minor County team vs. Lincs and Ken and Simon in the U160 team vs. Notts, all represented Essex in the County championship quarter finals.

Kevin scored 2½/5 in the open section and Martin scored 3/5 in the minor section of the Imperial College Central London Congress.

The Essex league team's six day tour of Essex ended with a disappointing defeat at Barking. See scorecard.

The Essex league team's recent good form continued with an excellent win at Ilford. See scorecard.


St. Albans Congress.

Dave scored 3/5 ( W2 D2 L1 ) finishing near the top of the major section of the St. Albans Congress.

Martin had a respectable 3/5 ( W1 D4 ) in the intermediate section. The win was a against a player who sacrificed a piece for a pawn and a strong attack, which he held off. Two of the draws were from better positions.
Ken also played in the intermediate section.


Essex team.

Robert Brown.

Robert Brown of Chingford chess club and well known to some Loughton members sadly passed away recently. In his memory, there will be a double simultaneous exhibition given by GingerGM Simon Williams and reigning British Rapid Champion IM Richard Bates on Friday 10th March 7.15 at Wanstead House. All proceeds will go to Robert's chosen charity, the British Lung Foundation. See here for more details.

London Chess Clasic.

Oliver Finnegan had two excellent tournaments in the London Chess Classic sharing first prize in both the Weekend U1825 and Weekday U1750.

Martin finished on 4/5 ( W3 D2 ) in the U140 section of the Herts Congress. He ended up in a 4-way tie for first. See his report.
