:Barking I

The result for the first round of the K/O was what we expected but we managed to give Barking a bit of a shock by taking three very good wins against high graded players. Martin, Ken and Gordon being the stars for Loughton.

we thus went into the plate section of the knockout and directly into the semi final against Ilford. After a bit of ill-mannered exchanges of e-mails (by Ilford) we finally played Ilford

Played 15th August 2011, at Ilford CC

Ilford

Roding & Loughton

This was a very tight match. Martin and Simon got lost and arrived just in time to avoid a default and still somehow obtain draws in the first round. Oliver and Ken obtain a draw and a win between them to keep the match tight at 3½-2½. In the second round,Oliver still continued to hold a 203 player to a draw( he may even have been winning). Martin continued his draw run. But the game of the night was Simon's. His opponent was clearly winning but also clearly did not know how to win it. Under time pressure his opponent played a rook to b7. Simon expecting a check from the rook moving to b6 instead of b7 moved his King into check by going to f7. This was ignored by his opponent who played Ra7. Simon moved back to g6 and proceeded to win the game.

Well done Simon.
