Due to the excess of weather the match against Ilford 1 on the 6th Feb HAS BEEN CANCELLED. 05-Feb-2012

All pages are now up to date and reflect the new grades where applicable.

The NCCL team crashed to a weak Wanstead:- lost 3.5-1.5 Oliver having a rare quick win dispite missing a simple win of a piece.

3-feb-12

The members page has been updated for the new Jan. grades.

Note:- The NCCL games played since October have not been included in this listing. I assume they have not yet been submitted for grading. (Simon, you may like to query this with NCCL)

29-jan-12

The NCCL team played Enfield1 at home. Fresh from his draw (in a county match) against the British under 10 champion, Simon continued his drawing ways to ensure we won the match 3-2. Full details in due course.

26-jan-12
The 1st team played at the icebox (Upminster) and lost 4.5-3.5. Details of the match and players updates will be provided once the new grading list is issued.(expected at the end of January). 20-jan-12
Finchly cup final has been added to the calender 11-jan-12

Head ache for our Essex captains (and poss. Simon). Brentwood has changed venues and its new clubnight is Tuesday.

This is a bit pf a pain for us as it means that three new matchs have to be fitted into the few tuesdays that are free for us. (Two against Brentwood and one against Chingford for the final of the Finchly Cup). Glad I'm not a match captain. See Essex Website for details of the Brentwood new venue.

Calender updated.

9-jan-12

The club held its first R/P event on the 20th Dec. It was for members only and organised by Martin. It was run as an all play all 11 round event and apart from one minor hipcup went very well. Apart from one silly lost to Brian Ken swept away the other players to win with 10 points out of a possible 11. For his efforts he was awarded a small digital clock (which he gave back later to the club). The shock result of the night was Mark beating Oliver.

Since the event went well, it is proposed that an other R/P Event would be held later in the season. A table of the results has been placed in the internal R/P TAB above

Thank you MARTIN you did a good job organising and running the event.

p.s the subs are now due.

Merry Xmas and hope to see you all in the new Year.

23-dec-11

The NCCL team went to Chingford and came away with a nice win. Robie and Brian were not too happy with this result( they were playing for Chingford and they both lost) We won 3.5-1.5

Calendar and reports updated

14-dec-11
The 2nd team went to Barking, saw the xmas lights but failed to shine, losing 4-2. Results etc added to web pages. Also committee page updated. The simi by Kevin has been cancelled due to lack of people willing to play. HOWEVER, IF ENOUGH people turn up this tues, we may still be able to run it. Kevin has offered to buy a pint for each player who beat him. 9-dec-11

The NCCL team also played Wanstead in the Finchly cup in the same week as our first team and obtained the same score, 4.5-3.5, albeit over two rounds.

Simon will have mixed feelings over this result as he now has to find a date for the final against Chingford!

NCCL knockout page updated with match report

3-dec-11

The 1st team turned out a very strong team to beat Wanstead 2 4.5 - 3.5; a result which put us at the top of the division. Kevin produced the expected win while David agreed a quick draw. Oliver continued to demonstrate his ablity to misplay endings, this time for a change, a knight ending. Ken grounded out a bishop and knight ending while Graham had a quick win. Martin was a shade lucky in that his oponent picked up a knight by mistake and thus forced to give it up for two pawns. Simon and john were just outplayed.

Overall a good result.

Calender, stats etc dated

2-dec-11

The NCCL team went to Barnet to play a match:- one player even arrived by taxi! He was rewarded for his efforts to play by the team losing 3-2. Oliver avoided a rook ending by winning by default. Simon and john got their draws while Martin and Ken came second in their games(both losses due to silly mistakes). Did not think much of the beer either:-

stats etc updated

23-nov-11

The Finchly Cup Semi final has, at long last, got an agreed date for the match. It is Friday 2nd Dec at Wanstead.

Our NCCL team got a nice win against Chingford 2. we won 3-2 with some attractive wins by Ken and John:- Ken setting a deep trap of what appeared to be a mating attack by his opponent which when it failed allowed Ken to mate him. John grounded out a minor piece ending which left his opponent with no way to avoid dropping a piece.(Oliver take note of how to play an ending!!). Ronnie won quickly. Martin and Oliver both lost.

MANY PAGES UPDATED.

16-nov-11

The first team had a good start to their season, beating Barking 2. However, the result hides a couple of somewhat lucky results. John gave away a rook and his opponent then worked hard to lose a total won game!. Ken agreed a draw in difficult ending that may well have been lost.Oliver continues to demonstate how to lose rook endings. Martin continues his attempt for the most draws in a season.(hic)

Final score 6-2.

Player stats. 1st team results and calender updated

13-nov-11

The Club has organised 2 internal events for Dec.

1. Tues 13-Dec:- a Sim by Kevin 8 o/c start.

2. Tues 20-Dec:- a rapid play for members only - type of rapid play dependent upon numbers playing. 8 o/c start.

It would be helpfull if you let Ken or Martin know beforehand if you wish to play in either event.

Two results in the Championship:- John 1-0 Ben

Martin 1-0 Ronnie.

Championship and calender pages updated

9-nov-11

2nd team match against Upminster 5 added to calendar (May the 1st).

Martin beat Ronnie in the club Championship.

Rule 4 for the Championship changed.(use of digital clock added).

Both pages updated

2-nov-11

Once again the 2nd team took to the field and this time won 4-2 against Thurrock 3.There were some small hicups on the way to victory with Martin's opponent missing a clear win and Ben missing a win of a piece, but overall a good win.

We welcome new member Kevin to the club:- his arrival should help the first team to obtain better results this season.

John got a lucky draw against Oliver in the Championship. Oliver really needs to learn how to play won endings!!!

Many pages updated.

26-Oct-2011

The 2nd team took on a very strong Basildon side and lost 4-2. However the team did well to hold Basildon to this score. Simon had a clear win in the opening but played his queen to e2 instead of f3 which won outright thus allowing his opponent back into the game. Robbie got a draw in a slightly worse position but neverless a good result. The remainder of the team were all outplayed but Ben got a point dispite losing due to his opponent not being registered. The rest of the 2nd team season should produce better results as the big boys of the Divsion have been played.

Web sited updated:- Calendar, chess bits and Second team results.

19-Oct-2011
Due to a very bad traffic jam, three of the NCCL team(John,Oliver and Ken) arrived 15 mins late at Wanstead which may account for some of the unexpected game results in this match. We lost 3.5-1.5. Oliver agreed a draw as did Martin and John.Ken had the better of his game but with 3 mins left to do 8 moves made a tactical mistake and lost(can not remember the last time Ken came under time pressure!). Simon also fell by the wayside. 12-oct-11
And now for the bad news:- the 2nd team lost 2-4 to Ilford 3. No comment on this result. The only good thing about this result is that Ben won again.Full details have been added to the website. Calendar has been updated. 11-oct-11
The dispute with the league has been resolved. Martin is not barred and the score line against Wanstead 4 is 4.5-1.5 with Martin game now being counted. 7-oct-11
A very good result by our second team (we beat Wanstead 4 4.5-1.5) has been marred by a dispute with the league over whether Martin is a barred player or not. We think he is not barred but the leaque thinks he is!!!!. Until it is resolved we will not update the 2nd team results. However the match is still a win for us reguardless. Just gives John a headache over team selection. On a good note:- Ben scored his first win for us, so well done Ben. Simon worked hard to avoid drawing(hic) and finally winning while John and Gordon chalked up two quick wins. The league gives the result as 4 - 2 to us with 1 default.(Martin being counted as a default with his game going for grading.) 5-oct-11
A very basic guide to the digital clocks is now avaible on the clocks page 30-sep-11

Championship

Oliver played a bad opening line against John and was forced into a draw by move 13! Thats was a good result for the rest of us!!!!!!!!!!
