About my web site and the legend it's dedicated to...

Ken Dodd

...a famous name that makes people instantly think of teeth and tickling sticks but as you'll know, Doddy is much more than this, he is an outstanding comedian - proberbly the world's most talented and energetic for his age.

Kenneth Arthur Dodd ("artist, model and failed accountant") was born in 1927 on November 8th in Knotty Ash, Liverpool and got his big break at Nottingham Playhouse in 1954. Ken is now in his seventies but does this top him visiting over one hundred British theatres every year?  No!  He is an unbelievable performer and his U.K tours take up most of his year, to his thousands of fans' delight!  Ken received an O.B.E from her majesty, the Queen and in 1991 was given the highest accolade for his lifetime contribution to comedy and humor at the prestigious British Comedy Awards.  He has now acheived fifty glorious and without doubt successful years of comedy.

50 years of showbusiness!

Well done Ken - never stop!

"I always knew showbusiness was the life for me - well anything's better than work isn't it?"

...Ken Dodd

Not only a legendary comedian however, his musical carreer has been sensational, particularly in the 1960's when his singles, such as 'Happiness', 'Promises', 'Broken Hearted', and 'The River' topped the charts and in 1965, 'Tears', this record sold over two million copies, earned Ken two gold discs and went straight into the charts at no. 1, 'Tears' is still one of the biggest-selling singles of all time!

Ken has not been short of Radio and Televsion appearances in his historical career either, 'Doddy's Music Box', 'The Ken Dodd Show', 'Ken Dodd's World of Laughter' and of course, 'Ken Dodd and the Diddymen'  as well as the highly acclaimed 'An Audience with...' shows have all achieved high ratings.  Mr. Dodd is also an accomplished actor, he has starred in both Shakespeare's 'Twelth Night' and the 1996 movie epic, 'Hamlet' as well as famously starring in 'Dr. Who: Delta and the Bannermen'.

Recently, success has been acheived in the shape of extensive sell-out U.K tours headlining ' The Happiness Show' which is always popular no matter which town it visits.  2002's 'Another Audience with Ken Dodd' was nominated for a National Television Award and the D.V.D release was one of the most popular of the year!  Ken recently gave the B.B.C an exclusive interview for 'Behind the Laughter' in which he was also profiled.  He then presented his own documentary, titled 'Ken Dodd's Comedy Heroes' in which he introduced us to his favourite stars.

The following picture is of St. George's Hall in the city of Bradford, Doddy regularly visits this venue, sometimes even twice a year and this is mostley where I see him perform.

This is my personal tribute to my favourite comedian, and performer over-all.  It features Doddy's latest news, current activites, audio details, show reviews, photgraphs and my and notes on the man himself.
