Kristy Langford: What are you most favorite horror movies?
Kelly Ray: Nightmare on Elm Street part 3: DREAM WARRIORS. This was my first horror movie I saw and I fell in love with it. My best friend at the time and I used to rent it ALL the time. It was my first taste of Patricia Arquette, as well.
Sleep Away Camp: Another classic that I have been in love with since I was a little girl. The shower scene where he slices her back used to scare the hell out of me. I was afraid to take a shower when I was alone in the house for YEARS. LMAO . . . Sometimes, I still get freaked out.
Children of the Corn: The kids singing in the beginning used to scare me to death. (Kids laughing is scary too.) Kids are just scary ;) Anyway, it made me quite afraid of cornfields.
Pet Semetery: Pascow creeped me out. I did not like him. For that matter, so did the ms sister. She used to bring me practically to tears. She gave me the shivers. It also made me cringe when Gage sliced Jet's mouth and achilles tendon's open. AAAAAAAA! Great flick!
KL: What do you like to do in your spare time?
KR: I love to go out to eat. I love to go to bars when it's karaoke night. I love singing! I love to work out and go tanning. (I'm a white girl that can use all the color she can get. HA) I love to drink red wine. I love to spend time with my friends. I love having days off to be able to curl up under all of my warm covers when it's freezing cold in my room and watching movies or reading a really good book. I love dinner parties, dance parties, and any reason to throw a party. I love working on me.
KL: When did you first decide that you wanted to become an actress? Do you have any advice for those that want to branch out into acting?
KR: I don't ever remember a time when I did NOT want to be an actress. The first line I ever had to memorize in a real live play was, "They told me to remember this number. Always." The play was called I NEVER SAW ANOTHER BUTTERFLY and it was about the Jewish concentration camps at Auschwitz. I was hooked and never pursued or thought about pursuing anything else.
The best advice I can give someone about this business is to be gracious. Always be thankful for what has been given to you and what is being presented to you. Never close a door, no matter how much a director, fellow actor, or whomever has pissed you off or offended you. Put your tail between your legs and say thank you at the end of every day and you will keep getting work and people will remember you graciousness. That, and don't let ANY day go by that you are not doing something for your career. If you're not getting work, you've got no one to blame but yourself.
KL: What do you like most about working in independent films?
KR: I enjoy the fast-paced feel that it has. Because of the low to no budget that most film-makers have, you are always on your toes. It makes it exciting and challenging because you don't have a lot of time to think about what you are going to do. You have to be extra prepared.
KL: I am really looking forward to seeing the films, Hunting Season and Kottentail. How did you get mixed up with those crazy people at Crazy Ralph Film?
KR: My buddy Nathan Faudree told me that Crazy Ralph was casting for a movie called A Pound of Flesh and so I applied. I guess they liked me cause they hired me for their next three films.
KL: What is Tony Urban like to work with?
KR: I love Tony. He is one of the nicest most gracious directors I have had the pleasure to work with. He always tries to be as accomodating as possible. He will bend over backwards to make sure that you are taken care of. He's one of my dearest frineds in the biz!
KL: I have been following the progress of The Shrieking ever since I first heard about this film. What can you tell me about it? Do you have any funny stories that you can talk about?
KR: What to say about this lovely little film. This was a very hard shoot for me. My character I was playing was not the most fun. She had recently been through some tragic circumstances coming into this camping trip. So she's pretty uptight the entire time. And then her friends start dying and she's fighting for her life. So . . . it was rough. I spent the bulk of the shoot on the ground, on a crutch, and in the water! HA. Wow. It was very physically demanding!!! There's a very funny short film that the sound guy, Christopher Kahler, (who is an absolute BLAST to work with, btw) put together. You should check it out! http://www.angelfire.com/il2/plantsforless/index.html
KL: In your opinion, what do you think of the term scream queen?
KR: I understand that some people get really offended by the term. I don't understand why and don''t care to. I think it's an honorable term. I'm just an actress. I get a script, memorize my lines, show up, and do the work. If you want to call me a scream queen for that . . . . Thank you very much for thinking of me at all :)
KL: Is there anybody that you would like to work with in the future?
KR: There are SO many people I would like to work with. My dream would be to get the chance to work with Terry Gilliam one day. He's my favorite director . . . . I don't know . . . . I don't know . . . . anyone who will hire me :)
KL: What other projects are you currently working on?
KR: I just finished up LAST RITES OF THE DEAD with Insane-O-Rama Productions. The trailer should be out soon and it should be finished by the end of February. I am to be going back to NC to film DEMONIAC with Funhouse Pictures in the Spring. Other than that, I've been working on my voice-over career for the moment. I get random anime gigs here and there. I just got an agent and I just finished my demo cd, so hopefully things will be able to take off even more :)
KL: What do you think of all the remakes that Hollywood is shelling out these days?
KR: Ya know . . . I was ok with Dawn of the Dead and even the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but now it's getting a little ridiculous! You can NOT remake LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT!!! That's just plain sacralige!!!!!
KL: Before we go, are there any last words that you wanna say to you fans out there?
KR: I didn't even realize I had fans until I started getting emails requesting autographed pictures of me because people had watched BLOOD RELIC. That's so cool! Thank you SO much for appreciating my work! Please keep believing in me. It gives me strength to know that you guys are out there rooting for me!!!!
KL: I really want to thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me. You are awesome!
KR: . Kristy, I think you are awesome!!! Thank you so much for wanting to interview me. What a blessing. I wish you all the best!
