Kelly trained at Mountview Theatre School in North London for three years and after graduating at the age of 21, she worked steadily in theatre and commercials before landing her big break on Holby City. The audition process for Holby City was more unusual than most and she was asked to attend a 3-hour audition which was to be filmed for a BBC Talent 'Making it at Holby' documentary. Kelly, who was originally up for the part of Donna, shone through and impressed the panel so much so that she was signed up to play the role of midwife Mickie Hendrie. Kelly, who was working at front of house for the musical Mamma Mia at the time was thrilled to learn she had got the part. Of her character background, Kelly explained 'Mickie, my character, takes herself very seriously. She's a virgin and has never really had a boyfriend and wants to be successful in her job - her grandmother and mother were midwives so she's carrying on a tradition, but secretly she'd like to be a doctor. But she's also slightly envious of Donna's confidence and assertiveness.' During her time on the show, Mickie's character had a one night stand with Donna before coming to terms with her sexuality. She still battles with her lack of confidence and her hopes of switching careers to that of a doctor. Outside of her hectic filming schedule, Kelly has a passion for horses. She and her sister have enjoyed riding from an early age. She also enjoys the cinema and music such as Van Morrison, James Taylor and old folk. In
future, she says her ambition is to work in films. |
