March 14-22 I will be in Nicaragua working with New Song Mission Nicaragua to serve the poor in the village of Candelaria. The goal of their ministry is to partner with the Nicaraguan people and break the cycle of poverty. I consider myself extremly lucky to be able to travel down there again and take part in the work they are doing. I love the country, weather and people there! It just brings me so much joy every time I go and I feel like I'm bursting at the seems with excitement and I can't wait to be there again.
My first trip was in October 2002 when the ministry was just starting out. I fell in love with the people! They may not be rich but as the expression goes they are definitley "rich in spirit", they are the definition of true joy inspite of circumstance. Once I had gone once I couldn't stay away, so I went back for 3 weeks in May/June 2005 and now I get to go again.
This trip will be a little different than my previous 2. Rather than going with a big group of people I will only be going with 2 of my closest friends and I get to plan the trip. Melissa, Donna and I will spend 4 days in Candelaria and then we'll have 3 days of fun exploring the beauty of Nicaragua and hanging out with Melissa's parents Tommy & Linda (aka Momma Gable). I'll update the travel log with stories and photos of our adventures as we go so you can be jealus of how much fun I'm having.
Make sure you check out the actual mission's website at http://www.newsongmissionnicaragua.com/ It has some great stories and pictures from previous mission trips, and everything you'd like to know about their history, purpose, and ministry projects. They also have information on how you can take part or help out if it pulls on your heart like it does mine. If you have any interest in going on a trip in the future I would highly encourage it, it is very rewarding, and you can find out all you need to know on their website (or you can just ask me)
