Maffett Scores Attica Late Model Win In Only 2nd Night Out; Sebetto Claims 6th 305 Sprint Victory; Dible Gets Close Truck Win

By Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH) Wayne Maffett Jr. made only his second start of the year lucky on Friday, July 13, as he took home the $1,000 payday on Underground Utilities Inc. Night at Attica Raceway Park.

It was the Manfield driver's 28th career win in the Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop Attica Late Models, just two behind his father's division leading mark at ARP.

"This is only our second night out this year. We had some major engine problems and I can't say enough about Reedy Racing Engines for all the work they did to get us out here," said Maffett beside his Wright Choice Auto Sales/ Mason Racing backed #40. "When you're racing against guys like Jim Fleming and Larry Kingseed...Larry didn't win five championships here by luck."

Fremont's Bryan Sebetto took the lead when Todd Heuerman slipped up on lap 11 and went on to score his 6th feature win of the season at Attica in the 305 sprints.

"Josh Meggitt gives me the best equipment I could ask for. We really have the car hooked up here. This has been the best year of my life," said Sebetto, who announced he would be in a 410 sprint ride in 2008. "I can't say enough for all the sponsors - Hot Shots Painting and Sandblasting, Frosty's Put-In-Bay Bar,  Gressman Powersports....without their help we couldn't do this."

Fostoria's Bob Dible turned the tables on Art Ball to take the dirt truck feature win by a bumper.

"Lapped traffic made that one close. It feels good to get a win when you've lost a close one," said Dible beside his Bob's Machine Shop/Burns Petroleum/ BMS Engines backed #17.

In the 25-lap late model feature, Jim Fleming jumped into the early lead with Curtis Deisenroth, Maffett and Mike Bores in tow. The first of six yellows would fly on lap five with the running order Fleming, Deisenroth, Maffett, Bores and 7th-starter Larry Kingseed rounding out the top five.

Fleming would continue to lead with Kingseed moving into second on lap 9 followed by Deisenroth, Maffett and Ryan Missler. Maffett would move into third on lap 10 and would drive under Kingseed for second on lap 13. Maffett would begin to put the pressure on Fleming until he grabbed the top spot on lap 15.

Maffett would go on to the victory with Fleming, Kingseed, Mike Marteney and Devin Shiels rounding out the top five.
In the 25-lap 305 sprint feature Todd Heuerman would jump into the early lead, with Coty Runion, Sebetto, Dustin Keegan and Matt Ferrell in tow. Heuerman would continue to ride the outside rim in the lead, as Runion's ride went up in smoke on lap 3, moving Sebetto into second. Heuerman would slip off the high side of turn 2 on lap 11, handing the lead to Sebetto.

Sebetto would also utilize the high side to pull away while the battle for second was intense between Heuerman, Craig Kays and Keegan. With five laps remaining, the running order was Sebetto, Kays,  Heuerman, Ferrell and 13th-starter Kevin Lee. Following a lap 23 caution, Sebetto would pull away for the win, with Heuerman, Lee, Ferrell and Keegan rounding out the top five.

The 15-lap truck feature was a fan's delight, featuring side-by-side action throughout the field. Last week's winner Cory Ward would grab the initial lead with Dible right on his rear bumper. Dible would drive into the top spot on lap three, with Ward battling back hard. Fifth-starter Shawn Valenti would move into second on lap 6, bringing 8th-starter Art Ball into third.

Dible, Valenti, Ball and Ward would race each other hard until they hit lapped traffic with just two laps remaining. Ball and Dible were side-by-side at the flag stand as the white flag flew, with Valenti right on their rear bumper. Coming out of turn four for the checkered, Dible split three lapped cars and edged Ball by a bumper for the win. Valenti, Ward, and Alex Wiechman would round out the top five.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, July 20 for Christmas in July presented by Smith Family Frosted Foods. The World Auto Parts of Huron & Cleveland 410 Sprints, 305 sprints, Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop Attica Late Models and dirt trucks will be in action. Santa Claus will also pay a visit, handing out many gifts. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing action slated to begin at 8 p.m.

Linder Grabs 1st Attica Win of ’07; Shammo Takes 305s; Bores Claims Late Model Win; Ward Gets Truck Victory

By Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH) Mike Linder made one of his sponsors very happy Friday night at Attica Raceway Park. The Fremont driver picked up his first win of the season in a 410 sprint on R&R Auto Wrecking/Quality Welding Night. Ironically, Linder piloted a 305 sprint car to victory at ARP earlier this season - the car belonging to R&R owner Rich Farmer, who also sponsors the Andy James Motorsports 410 sprint.

Millbury's Andy Shammo scored his second win of the season at Attica in the 305 sprints, while Bellevue's John Bores, promoter at ARP, recorded his first win in the Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop Late Models and Sandusky's Cory Ward picked up second victory in the dirt trucks.

Linder got around early race leader Caleb Griffith on lap 20 and held off a hard-charging Greg Wilson for his 7th career Attica victory in the World Auto Parts of Huron & Cleveland 410 Sprints.

"I was going to have a hard time getting around Caleb...we were racing in the same groove and then he moved down in turn three and I got a run to the outside. My hats off to my crew...they have been working so hard in the shop and we've been getting better every night out," said Linder beside his Linder's Speed Equipment/ Burns Iron & Metal backed sprint car.

Shammo inherited the lead when Bryan Sebetto crashed into a spun car on lap 8. Shammo would build a comfortable lead and go on to claim his fourth career ARP win.

"I hated to see that happen to Bryan...I think we would have put on a good show battling for the lead. My hat's off to John Bores and the entire Attica staff. They have brought this track back...you can really race hard here," said Shammo beside his Fort Ball Pizza Palace/Matt Tille Enterprises backed #48.

Bores grabbed the lead from Bill Hahn on lap six and held off a last lap challenge by Mike Marteney for his third career Attica win in the late model feature.

"I found a little moisture on the bottom of 1 and 2 and knew I had to keep the car straight and get off turn 4 good," said Bores. "I saw Mike stick his nose under me on the last lap..I just tried not to spin the tires."

Ward grabbed the lead from Art Ball on lap 2 and held off several challenges from Brian Arnold to score his fourth career victory at ARP in the dirt trucks.

"I was having some problems with the gears, but the truck drove great," said Ward beside his Excuse's Lounge/East Side Cafe backed #18W truck.

In the 30-lap 410 sprint feature, Brandon Martin grabbed the early lead, only to see Griffith take the top spot on lap 2 with action halting for a Chris Andrews tip-over. Griffith would build a big lead with Linder moving into second on lap 3, with Martin, Byron Reed and 11th-starting Wilson in tow.

The action would be slowed on lap 16 for a stalled Roger Shammo, with only 10-cars on the lead lap. The running order was Griffith, Linder, Martin, Reed and Dustin Daggett.

Linder would make his winning move exiting turn 4 on lap 20. Griffith would try to drive back under in turn 2 but made contact with an infield tire barrier, collapsing his front axle, ending his fine run. Linder would continue to rim ride while the action behind him would heat up between Martin, Wilson, Reed and 12th-starting Mark Keegan. A spat of cautions would continue to slow the action, with Linder getting great restarts.

Behind Linder at the checkers were Wilson, Martin, Keegan and Reed. Wilson would take home an extra $200 from R&R Auto Wrecking for the "hard-charger" award for passing the most cars in the feature.

In the 25-lap 305 sprint feature, Sebetto, who has five victories at ARP in 2007, would grab the early lead from his pole-starting position. Shammo, Matt Ferrell, Cap Henry and Coty Runion would stage a hated battle for behind. Disaster would strike for Sebetto on lap 8 as he entered lapped traffic. Bobby Davis made contact with another car, sending him spinning in turn 4 right in front of the leader. Sebetto made contact and damaged his front end, bringing an end to his night.

Shammo would build a big lead while Henry, Runion, Josh Muntz and Dustin Keegan stagged a heated battle behind. With just two laps remaining, Shammo continued to lead while Henry and Keegan battled hard for second. Shammo would take the checkers over Henry, Keegan, a hard-charging Stuart Brubaker and rookie Josh Muntz.

Dustin Dinan took home an extra $100 as the R&R Auto Wrecking hard-charger, as he finished 6th from his 14th starting position.

In the 20-lap late model feature, Bill Hahn, Bores and Marteney put on a heck of a show for the lead early, with Hahn and Bores trading the top spot several times before the first yellow would fly on lap 4. Bores would take the lead for good on lap 6, with Hahn, 11th-starter Ernie Haynes, Marteney and Randy Scott battling hard right on his bumper.

After a few cautions, the race would go the final 10-laps under green, with Bores fighting off several challenges from Marteney. At the checkers, it was Bores, Marteney, Haynes, Scott and Larry Kingseed.

Jim Fleming would take home the $50 R&R hard-charger award by virtue of his 6th place finish from his 17th starting position.

In the 15-lap dirt truck feature, Art Ball would grab the lead but it would only last one lap before Ward powered into the top spot. The battle for second would heat up between Ball, Chuck Roelle, 9th-starter Brian Arnold and 12th-starter Shawn Valenti.

Ward continued to lead, but he couldn't shake Arnold and Valenti. With two laps to go, Ward lead over Arnold and a closing Ball. At the checkers, it was Ward, Arnold, Ball, Steve Endicott and 15th-starter Bob  Dible, who scored the $50 R&R hard-charger award.

Chamberlain Sweeps Attica ALMS, Sebetto Takes 3rd Straight In 305s, Ball Edges Dible In Trucks

By Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH) Duane Chamberlain was having a bad-racing month. What he needed was a shot in the arm, some confidence. He got that and more Friday at Attica Raceway Park, as the Richmond, Indiana driver won both the Sunoco American Late Model Series feature events - the make-up from the May 25 Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop that was rained out, and the regular show on Wynn's Automotive/ Service Drive Solutions Night.

Fremont's Bryan Sebetto scored his third straight 305 sprint feature win at "Ohio's Finest Racing" venue.

Tiffin's Art Ball literally won by a bumper in the dirt truck A-Main.

Chamberlain lead both 30-lap late model features wire to wire, surviving a crash-filled A-main in the make-up feature, and an ill-handling car in the final feature. The wins were his fifth and sixth of the season and his third and fourth in the Sunoco American Late Model Series.

"We haven't been very good at all this month...our luck has been horrible. We got to start up front and that was a huge difference. In the first feature, I just had to stay up against the cushion. With all those yellows (six) in the first feature, I was wondering when something would happen to the car," said Chamberlain beside his CW Excavating sponsored #1c. "In the second one, I got into a lapped car about half-way through and must have broke something in the front, because it was a handful. My wife is seven months pregnant, so somebody must have known I needed these wins."

Sebetto drove his Gressman Powersports #01 around the high side of Matt Lucius exiting turn 4 on lap 10 and never looked back as he sailed to his fifth win at Attica for the season.

"This thing is just so good around the high side of three and four...I could almost flat-foot it around there," said Sebetto beside his Frosty's Put-In-Bay Bar sponsored sprinter. "We had our fingers crossed this motor would last...we broke something in the oil pump ealier in the night. That's just tells you how good a motor Scott Gressman builds."

The truck feature once again was unbelieveable, as Ball and Dible raced side by side the last five laps of the feature before Ball would edge Dible at the start-finish line. It marked Ball's third win of the season at Attica in the last four weeks of racing. He now has five victories in his career in the dirt trucks at Attica to lead all drivers.

"I didn't know who won. I kind of got in cruise control early on and then something woke me up and told me it was time to race," said Ball beside his Chaney Roofing, Clouse Construction, All In One Home Improvement backed truck. "I have to give Bob Dible credit....he raced me as hard as anyone has ever raced me and he did it as clean as anyone has."

In the make-up ALMS feature, Chamberlain jumped into the early lead from his outside front row starting spot with Ryan Markham and Dusty Moore giving chase. Four yellows would stop the action in the first 10 laps, continuously giving Chamberlain a clear track. The real battle was for second between Markham, Aaron Scott, Brian Ruhlman and Ronnie Perrin Jr.

At the half-way mark of the 30-lap event, Chamberlain lead over Markham, Perrin, Ryan Missler and Tim Sabo. Perrin would get around Markham on lap 18, but would retire to the pits with mechanical woes three laps later.Casey Noonan and Jerry Bowersocks would pick up their pass in the closing six laps, but it was too little too late, as Chamberlain powered away to the win. Markham, Missler, Bowersocks and 16th-starter Keith Berner would round out the top five. However, Missler's car would come up light at the scales and he would be scored last.

Chamberlain would again start in the outside front row for the Wynn's Automotive/Service Drive Solution A-main and would once again use the outside groove to build a lead. And, once again, the action behind him was fantastic between Markham, Ruhlman, Eric Myers, Tyler Boggs and Rick Combs. Unlike the first feature, this one saw only two yellows, but they would fall at opportune times for Chamberlain as was getting into heavy lapped traffic.

Chamberlain would get some pressure from Ruhlman by lap 24, but once he clearned traffic he would build his lead to five car lengths. Ruhlman would finish second with Markham, Combs and Boggs rounding out the top five.

In the 305 sprint feature, Matt Lucius would utilize the bottom groove to grab the early lead over Dustin Dinan, Chris Lang, Duane Zablocki and Brad Bowman. All eyes were on 9th-starter Sebetto and 15th-starter Andy Shammo as they picked their way through traffic. Sebetto would crack the top five on lap 6, with Shammo moving into sixth place as the first yellow flew on lap 8. The running order was Lucius, Dinan, Lang, Sebetto, Bowman and Shammo. When the green came back out, Sebetto would drive to the cushion in turns 3 and 4 and move from 4th to second in one corner. He would use the same groove to power past Lucius on lap 10 and built a huge lead. Meanwhile, Shammo continued his march forward and moved into second on lap 16. By then, Sebetto's lead was nearly half a lap as he worked his way through traffic.

At the checkered flag, it was Sebetto over Shammo, Dinan, Lucius and 17th-starter Cody Runion to round out the top five.

In the 15-lap dirt truck main, Ball would lead the first lap before Dible would drive around the high side to take the top spot a lap later. Dible would continue to lead with Ball and Steve Endicott putting on constant pressure. At times the three ran side by side battling for the lead.

As the race settled into a rhythm, Dible seemed to have it in control. But, with four laps remaining, Ball got up on the steering wheel and pulled along side Dible as the duo raced door to door the remaining laps with Ball squeaking out the narrow victory. Dible, 10th-starter Cory Ward, Shawn Valenti and 12th-starter Chuck Roelle would round out the top five.

Familiar Faces - Reed, Sebetoo, Hahn, Ball - In Victory Lane At Attica Raceway Park

ImageBy Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH) Familiar faces graced victory lane at Attica Raceway Park Friday on Strawberry Hill Farm Market/Burger King Fan Appreciation Night. Byron Reed continued his hot streak, winning his second straight feature in the World Auto Parts of Huron & Cleveland 410 Sprints, as did Bryan Sebetto in the 305 sprints. Ken Hahn was awarded his second career feature in the Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop Attica Late Models, while Art Ball continued his hot streak, claiming his second feature win in the dirt trucks.

For Reed, Friday win is the third in as many outings - he won last Friday at Attica and followed that up with a win the next night at Fremont Speedway. It marked his third win of the 2007 season at Attica and was his 20th career Attica victory, moving him into second on the all-time 410 sprint win list (Mark Keegan leads with 54).

ImageSebetto's win was his fourth of the season at "Ohio's Finest Racing" venue. It is his 6th career victory at Attica, moving him into a tie for 14th on the 305 sprint all-time win list.

Hahn was awarded the feature win after Larry Kingseed, who crossed the finish line first by a nose over Hahn, was disqualified for unsportsman-like conduct. It marked the second win in three weeks for the Gibsonburg, Ohio driver.

Art Ball continued his hot streak as well, winning his second feature in the dirt trucks in the last three weeks at Attica. It was also his second straight feature win as he took the checkers last Saturday at Fremont Speedway. It was Ball's fourth career Attica victory in the dirt trucks to put him on top of the all-time win standings. Ball also sits third on Attica's all-time feature win list in the street stocks/ limited late model standings.

"We've been good all season...it's just now we're getting a few of the breaks," said Reed beside his Hoosier Tire/ Reebar Die Casting sponsored sprinter.

One of those breaks was Reed being able to hang on for the win after a front torsion bar stop came off late in the race.

"I had my hands full...it was bouncing around pretty good," said the Monclova, Ohio driver. "This is the first win my dad (Sam) has gotten to see this year....happy Father's Day!"

Fremont, Ohio's Sebetto had his Frosty's Bar at Put-In-Bay 305 sprinter hooked up on the high side and avoided disaster when he and Andy Shammo got together early in the race that resulted in Shammo spinning.

"I was so good around the rim in 3 and 4...I got a run off 4 and got together with Andy. I hated that...he's a friend and I feel bad for that," said Sebetto beside his Hotshots Painting, Sandblasting and Powdercoating sponsored #01. "Josh (Meggitt, car owner) and I are communicating so well and our set-ups are right on the money. I could flat-foot it around the high side tonight."

For Hahn, the win was a little bittersweet.

"I had a good run on him coming down for the checkers and just ran out of room and time. But hey, we'll take the win," said Hahn beside his Bestwick-Braun Co./AMS Heating & Air sponsored late model.

ImageBall's Pierce Engineering team put together a new truck for the veteran two weeks ago, but the old one just doesn't want to quit winning.

"This truck is like me...we're both old, but we just won't give up," said a smiling Ball beside his Magers Lumber/Smitty's Tavern backed #01 truck.

In the 30-lap 410 sprint feature, Troy Vacarro jumped into the early lead with Bruce Robenalt and Dean Jacobs in tow. The first caution would fly on lap 5 for a Lee Jacobs spint with the running order now Vacarro, Jacobs and sixth-starting Reed. Jacobs would spin in turn 3 after the restart, putting Reed into second and 7th-starter Caleb Griffith into third.

Vacarro and Reed would battle side by side the next two laps before Reed would drive under the Castalia driver exiting turn 4 to take the lead on lap 9. Another yellow would fly on lap 10 with the running order Reed, Griffith, Mark Keetan, Vacarro, Gus Wasson and 15th-starter Paul Weaver. Action would grind to a halt 2 laps later for a Mike Hogan tumble. The running order was know Reed, Griffith, Keegan, Weaver and Vacarro.

They would remain that way until lap 19 when Andy James flipped off turn 1. Now the car on the move was 11th-starter, rookie Chris Andrews as he trailed Reed, Griffith, Keegan and Wasson. With just five laps remaining, Griffith was closing on Reed as the two touched in turn 4 while battling for the top spot. Reed would move down to the bottom to take the win over Griffith, a fast-closing Weaver, Keegan and Wasson.

Shelby's Brad Bowman would grab the early lead in the 25-lap 305 sprint feature and had a spirited battle with Fostoria's Scott Kraylek until a nasty flip by Duane Zablocki (he was unhurt) stopped the action on lap 6. Kraylek would execute the perfect slide job in turn 4 a lap later to grab the lead, with Shammo moving around Bowman into second on lap 10. Kraylek and Shammo would race side by side the next lap with 8th-starting Sebetto slingshoting around Bowman into third. Exiting the fourth turn the next lap, Sebetto shot around Shammo and the two touched wheels with Shammo spinning. Sebetto would driver to the outside of Kraylek on lap 12 to grab the lead. Kraylek would mount several more challenges, but fell short at the checkered flag.

Behind Sebetto - who took the point lead - was Kraylek, Coty Runion (who raced in the top five the entire feature), Brad Haudenschild and 18th-starting Dustin Dinan rounding out the top five.

ImageLast week's feature winner Ryan Missler would grab the initial lead in the 20-lap late model feature with John Bores pressuring. Bores would take the  top spot on lap 4 when Missler pulled to the infield with engine woes. Bores would build a 5 car length lead while Eric Eicholtz, Hahn, J.R. Gentry and Kingseed battled behind. At the half-way mark the running order was Bores, Hahn, Kingseed, Eicholtz and Gentry as the yellow slowed the field. On the restart, Kingseed drover under Hahn into second as Bores continued to build his lead.

The yellow would slow action again on lap 16, putting Kingseed, the five-time Attica champion right on Bores' rear bumper. On the restart, Kingseed would make contact with Bores exiting turn 2, sending the leader spinning. Kingseed now led over Hahn, 10th-starter Mike Marteney and Mike Bores.

The yellow would fly on lap 19, setting up a one-lap shoot-out. Hahn would pull along side Kingseed exiting the final turn for the checkered, only to fall a fender short. After exiting the speedway for victory lane, Kingseed would spin his late model around several times in celebration, throwing gravel, dirt and dust into the stands. Attica officials then disqualified him for unsportsman-like behavior, awarding the victory to Hahn.

"He put the fans in danger of injury...we cannot have that," said Attica Operations Director Rex LeJeune.

Behind Hahn would be Marteney, Mike Bores, Bill Clapp Jr. (up from 18th) and Devin Shiels to round out the top five.

ImageChuck Roelle would grab the initial lead in the 15-lap dirt truck feature, with last week's winner Shawn Valenti pressuring his bumper, along with Steve Endicott and 7th-starter Art Ball.Ball would use a lapped machine as a pick to drive around Roelle into the lead on lap 7. Endicott and then Cory Ward would pressure the veteran Ball for the win, but he was not to be denied.

Rounding out the top five were Ward, Valenti, who came back through the pack after an early race spin, Brian Arnold and Roelle.

Blaney Takes All Star Win at Attica, Reed Claims 410 Victory, Sebetto Earns 3rd Win, Valenti, Missler Takes First Wins

By Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH)
It took two months, but Fowler, Ohio's Dale Blaney finally closed the books on the Coors Light Spring Nationals at Attica Raceway Park, winning the O'Reilly All Star feature Friday. In the Budweiser Night main, defending Attica champion Byron Reed held off several challengers for his second 410 win of the year at "Ohio's Finest Racing" venue.

Fremont's Bryan Sebetto edged Andy Shammo in the 305 sprint feature for his third win of the season at Attica, while Bellevue's Ryan Missler claimed his first main victory in the Fultz Fabrication & Speedshop Attica Late Models, and Risingsun's Shawn Valenti recorded his first career Attica win in the dirt trucks.

The All Star triumph - the 55th of Blaney's career - came after the original Coors Light Spring Nationals were rained out in early April. The show was rescheduled for May 25, and all the heats were run when the rains came, forcing the 30-lap feature to be run this Friday. It marked Blaney's 8th career win at Attica, as he led all 30 laps aboard the George Fisher-owned entry.

"When we finish we're always in the top five....we've just had some mechanical misfortunes. George sets this thing up and I know it's always going to be fast," said Blaney beside his Berlin Natural Bakery sponsored #2. "I was more concerned over who was behind me on those restarts at the end than the tire sealing up. When you have Rob Chaney right on your bumper the way he's been running, you better be on your game."

In the Budweiser Night show, Reed - the 2003, 2005 and 2006 ARP champion - got a wake-up call in the form of a fast Caleb Griffith, before claiming his 19th career Attica victory (tied with Chad Kemenah for 2nd on the all-time win list) in the World Auto Parts of Huron/Cleveland 410 Sprints. Griffith had actually passed Reed in turn two for the lead with just four laps remaining, but a yellow followed, giving Reed back the top spot.

"I don't like starting up front...I get too complacent. I like coming from mid-pack and passing cars. When Caleb...man he has been good lately...when he got under me it woke me up. I found I could drive the car harder into three and four and I started going faster," said Reed beside his Reebar Die Casting, Pro Shocks backed #5 about his $3,000 payday.

Sebetto had to be patient in lapped traffic while trying to hold off a charging Andy Shammo for his fifth career Attica victory in the 25-lap main for the 305 sprints.

"We had been running a Triple X chassis and I liked it. But, I kept eyeing that new Maxim sitting in the garage and I called Josh (Meggitt, car owner) this week and said, 'Let's put that thing together and give it a try.' Man was it fast," said Sebetto beside his Hot Shots, Painting, Sandblasting and Powder-Coating, Frosty's Put-In-Bay Bar sponsored #01. "I saw Andy under me a couple of times and I was driving  in places I shouldn't have been trying to get around lapped cars. That is the hardest I've ever raced traffic."

For Missler - the 2005 Attica Rookie of the Year - finding victory lane in the Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop Attica Late Models was just a matter of time. The driver of the McElwain Construction/Taze DJ & Karaoke #50 hasn't finished out of the top five yet this season.

"I just had to be patient around the rim...it's a fine line between disaster and winning up there," said Missler.

Valenti battled with Cory Ward the last half of the dirt truck feature before scoring his first career victory.

"Tim Kern set this thing up...I like the high side and this thing was definitely fast," said Valenti beside his Dymond Motorsports & Fabrication/Kern Tool backed #28. "I started coming to Attica as a kid and I said I always wanted to end up on that horse track...this is a dream come true."

At the drop of the green in the make-up feature for the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions, Blaney bolted into a commanding lead from his pole starting position, with the real action between Dean Jacobs, Brian Paulus, Shane Stewart and Rob Chaney behind him. Setting a blistering pace, Blaney hit lapped traffic just five laps into the 30-lap affair.

The first yellow would fly on lap 12 with the running order Blaney, Jacobs, Chaney, Paulus and Brian Ellenberger. On the restart attempt, Brandon Martin, Ellenberger and Paul Weaver got together to bring out the red. That seemed to be the only thing that could slow Blaney who built a big lead once again on the restart. He would hit lapped traffic again by lap 19, allowing Jacobs, Chaney and Greg Wilson to close in.

The field would be bunched up again on lap 22 as Paulus suffered a flat left rear tire after making contact with Wilson battling for fourth. Blaney now led over Chaney, Jacobs and 11th-starter Danny Smith. The field would get just two more laps in before the yellow came out for a slowing Brock Mayes.

Blaney couldn't shake Chaney the remainder of the race and held on for the victory. Jacobs, Wilson and Griffith would round out the top five.

"This is probably the best start I've had in my career. This team is just working so well together," said Chaney beside his Hammer Pallets sponsored #24H.

Reed jumped into the early lead of the Budweiser Night feature for the 410 sprints, with Griffith, Jacobs, Shane Stewart and Mike Linder running the rim behind. Reed would hit lapped traffic by lap 10, but would retain the top spot over Griffith and Stewart. The first caution would fall on lap 13 for Brandon Martin who stopped off the back stretch, with the running order Reed, Griffith, Stewart, Jacobs and Linder. However. all eyes were on Wilson who had worked his way up from 13th to sixth by the half-way mark.

Griffith would hound Reed until making his move in turns 1 and 2 with just four laps remaining. Griffith dove under Reed and took the lead exiting turn two, but a caution for a stalled Paul Weaver would negate the move, giving Reed back the top spot. On the restart, both Stewart and Wilson tried to make a run on the Griffith and the youngster slid off the high side of turn two, ending his great run. Reed now led over Stewart, Wilson, and 11th-starter Gus Wasson and Jacobs and that's the way they would finish.

In the 25-lap feature for the 305 sprints, Bill Kraylek would grab the initial lead with Dustin Dinan, Sebetto, Jim Taddeo and Shammo in tow. Kraylek and Sebetto would actually cross the start-finish line in a dead heat for the lead on lap six, with Sebetto stealing the top spot exiting turn two. Dinan and Shammo would get around Kraylek on lap eight, and Shammo would drive under Dinan for second a lap later.

Sebetto would hit lapped traffic on lap 10, allowing Shammo to take a peak under him the next few circuits. With just 10 laps remaining, Sebetto had his hands full with Shammo who consistently dove under him, but couldn't clear him for the slide-job. Sebetto got hung up behind lapped traffic with just two laps remaining, and Shammo gave it one last try, but couldn't get the passed accomplished. Dinan, Cap Henry and Dustin Keegan would round out the top five.

Chuck Hummer would grab the lead at the drop of the green for the late model feature, with John Mayes Sr., last week's winner Ken Hahn, Larry Kingseed and Missler in tow. Mayes would grab the top sot on lap four, with Kingseed moving into the lead on lap 7. Missler would drive around Kingseed to take the lad on lap 9 and would cruise to the win. Kingseed, Mayes, Hahn and 12th-starter Mike Marteney would round out the top five.

Steve Endicott grabbed the lead at the start of the 15-lap dirt truck feaure, with Shawn Schultz, Cory Ward, Valenty and Art Ball right on his bumper. Ward would move into second a lap later and would take the lead on lap 4. Valenti would move into second on lap 6 and would drive to the outside of Ward exiting turn 4 on lap 8 for the lead. He would cruise to the win with Ward, Ball, Brian Arnold and Endicott rounding out the top five.

Linder Returns To Racing Roots & Takes Attica 305 Loot, Hahn Scores 1st Career Win, Ball Just Keeps Going...And Going...

ImageBy Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH)
Mike Linder learned how to drive a sprint car by competing in the 305 sprint division at Attica Raceway Park in the '90s. That has propelled him to several feature wins and two track championships at area tracks in recent years in the 410 sprints. He returned to his racing roots Friday at Attica, leading all 30 laps to win the 305 Sprint Engine Builders Challenge on Burns Electric Night.

Gibsonburg, Ohio driver Ken Hahn finally shook the monkey off his back to score his first career victory in the 25-lap feature for the Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop Attica Late Models.

Art Ball, 68, is like the Energizer Bunny...he just keeps going, and going, and going....and winning! The Tiffin driver - who has won feature events in five different decades - took the checkered flag in the dirt truck main.

ImageLinder, who leads all 305 drivers in career wins at "Ohio's Finest Racing" venue with 25 victories, piloted a 305 owned by friends Rich Farmer and Tom Everett and built by his dad, Jim Linder, to the $1,200 payday.

"I grew up in this division....people don't know how tough it really is. There are some very good young drivers in the 305s. Bryan Sebetto and Cap Henry raced me hard....you add a veteran like Andy Shammo....these guys are as tough as the 410 sprint drivers we race every week," said Linder beside his R&R Auto Wrecking, Burns Iron & Metal backed #29.

"This is even more special because my dad built this chassis. We tried to run it as a 410 and it just wouldn't work. I don't know if it was the weight of the motor or the horsepower or what. I like running for Rich and Tom...we ran their car on asphalt last year and won for them," Linder added.

ImageHahn, 42, son of long-time late model driver Bill, couldn't believe he finally found victory lane.

"I've had such horrible luck, especially lately. It seemed every time I was on the verge of a win, something would happen. When we had all those yellows in the closing laps, I kept expecting something to break or fall off the car. Then it got hot - around 240 degrees - and I kept thinking 'let's get back to racing.' When we were racing it would run only 230," said Hahn beside his Bestwick-Bruan Co., Pro Hardware sponsored #27.

Ball, who has won nearly 300 features in a career that has spanned 45 years and includes wins in open, stock cars and now trucks, dedicated the victory to late car owner and friend Roy Pierce.

"Roy kept me racing...he was a true friend," said Ball beside his Magers Lumber, Chaney Roofing, Clouse Construction sponsored #01. "I want to thank my crew and family and Keith Pierce for all the hard work they do in the shop during the week. I'm still having fun."

"We got a new truck and we couldn't get it to run so we loaded up this old one and here we are...maybe she has a little more life left in her," Ball added about his Fabrication Shop, Smitty's Tavern, Ritzler Accounting truck.

In the 305 sprint feature, Linder jumped into the lead at the drop of the green from his outside front row starting spot. with fourth place starter Bryan Sebetto and pole-sitter Mark Whaley in tow. Cap Henry, 16, would storm from his 7th starting spot into the third position on lap four and began putting pressure on both Sebetto and Linder. Those three would pull away from the rest of the pack, with Henry moving under Sebetto for the runner-up spot on lap 4.

Linder would pull away slightly until he hit lapped traffic on lap 7, allowing Henry to close. The second-year sprint driver would drive under Linder several times but couldn't complete the pass. Meanwhile Sebetto, who has a win at Attica this year, and 10th starter Andy Shammo, who also has an ARP victory, stayed close.

With 7 laps remaining, disaster would strike for Henry, who slide off the turn 1 banking due to a broken rear suspension bolt, to bring out the caution. That gave Linder an open track with Sebetto, Shammo, Dustin Dinan and Stuart Brubaker following. On the restart, the field would grind to a halt for a flipping Coty Runion who was okay, but done for the night. Linder would hold off Sebetto the remaining distance for the win.

In the late model feature, Clint Coffman, who scored his first career victory two weeks ago at Attica, would grab the early lead with Chuck Hummer and Hahn following. Hahn would move around Hummer on lap 3 and fly around Coffman a lap later for the lead. Meanwhile, Ryan Missler began his charge, racing side by side with Coffman for several laps before taking second on lap 7 in the caution-filled main.

Missler would try to driver under Hahn on several caution flag restarts, but couldn't get the pass completed. Hahn would streak under the checkered flag with Missler, 7th starter Ernie Haynes, Coffman and John Mayes Sr. rounding out the top five.

ImageOnce again, the dirt truck feature was a dandy featuring side-by-side racing for the top five positions throughout the 15-lap affair. Cory Ward would grab the initial lead, with Steve Endicott and Brian Arnold racing him three-wide for several laps. Meanwhile Ball steadily climbed from his 7th starting spot to four by lap 6. As Ward and Arnold battled for the lead, Ball and Bob Dible would race door to door for third. Ball would move into third on lap 8 and would overtake Arnold the next circuit.

Ward and Ball would race side by side the next three laps before Ball gained the slight advantage on lap 12. Ball would hold off repeated attempts by Ward to score his third career truck win at Attica. Ward, Dible, 11th-starter Shawn Valenti and Arnold would round out the top five.

Attica Raceway Park will be busy Friday, June 8, as the rained out O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions 30-lap feature from May 25 will be run, as will the Budweiser Night show featuring another 30-lap, $3,000 to win feature for the World Auto Parts of Huron & Cleveland 410 Sprints, and the regular program of 305 sprints, Fultz Fabrications & Speed Shop Attica Late Models and dirt trucks.

Chaney Storms To Attica Win; Sebetto Takes Second 305 Victory; Coffman Scores Career First; Ward Wins On Last Lap Pass In Trucks

By Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH)
At the beginning of the year, some racing observers wondered if the team put together to field 410 sprints for Millersburg, Ohio driver Rob Chaney could get him to victory lane....wonder no more. Chaney powered to his second victory in as many weeks on Fisher Performance Night at Attica Raceway Park.

Fremont, Ohio driver Bryan Sebetto held off the determined Stuart Brubaker to record his second victory of the season in the 305 sprints.

Ashland, Ohio's Clint Coffman took the lead with just two laps remaining and went on to score his first career feature win in the Fultz Fabrication & Speed Shop Attica Late Models.

Sandusky, Ohio's Cory Ward waited until the last lap to drive under Steve Endicott to score his first win of the year at Attica in the dirt truck feature.

Chaney said the win in the World Auto Parts of Huron/Cleveland 410 Sprints - he also was victorious last Saturday at Fremont Speedway - adds to the confidence that is building in his young Hammer Pallets team.

"The results didn't show early on, but these guys just kept coming to the shop and working hard.Anytime you can win - I don't care if it pays $2,500 to win or $25,000 - when you can beat Dale Blaney, Byron Reed, John Ivy, Greg Wilson...you've accomplished something," said Chaney beside his Randy and Lisa Hammer, Rob Hunter owned #24h sponsored by Berlin Natural Bakery, Emmons Towing and Tim Hawkins Logging. "Aaron (Hammer) was here tonight...he missed Saturday's win, so that makes it even better."

For Sebetto, the victory was redemption after getting upside down the week before.

"There wasn't a whole lot of track left on the top and I got close to blowing it off the edge a few times. This feels a lot better after my mistake of being too aggressive last week," said Sebetto beside his Josh Meggitt owned #01 carrying sponsorship from Frosty's Bar and Gressman Powersports.

Coffman has been racing for 16 years, and he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the checkered flag in front of him in the late model feature. It was his first career victory and it came in dramatic style with a pass for the lead with just two laps remaining.

"Finally," said an exhausted Coffman beside his Federated Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway/Coffman Corvettes sponsored #2c. "That was some awesome racing those final five or six laps...the fans should have enjoyed that."

And like Coffman, Ward waited until the closing laps to make his winning move exiting turn two on the final lap.

"How did that happen?" a bewildered Ward questioned in victory lane beside his Excuses Lounge, Precision Body and Frame, Blue Chip Machine & Tool sponsored #18w. "I just drove that thing into turn one as hard as I could and it stuck and I got under Steve (Endicott) and he raced me hard down the backstretch and it was a drag race to the checkered."

John Ivy - piloting the same car Ricky Stenhouse drove to victory at Attica last year during Ohio Sprint Speedweek - took the lead at the drop of the green for the 30-lap 410 sprint A-main, with Chaney, David Harrison and Brock Mayes in tow. Ivy would continue to lead when he hit lapped traffic on lap 13, allowing the rim-riding Chaney to close.

Cautions would plague the last 10 laps, and shortly after a restart on lap 21, Chaney drove around Ivy exiting turn 2 to grab the top spot. Ivy would pull under Chaney a couple of times in the closing laps, only to see the yellow displayed.

Meanwhile, Dale Blaney had quietly and methodically marched from his 18th starting spot into fifth by lap 23. He would vault into third on a restart a lap later and would still second on lap 26 when the final caution would fly. Blaney would drive up beside Chaney to let him know he was on the move, but it had little effect as Chaney went on to the 7th win of his career at Attica. Blaney would retain second followed by Ivy, Chad Blonde (who hung around the top six the entire race) and Harrison rounding out the top five.

Stuart Brubaker would take the lead at the drop of the green for the 25-lap 305 sprint feature, with rookie Travis Hoffbauer, Sebetto and Dustin Dinan right on his bumper. Sebetto would move into second on lap six when Hoffbauer slipped off the racetrack. Over the next four laps Brubaker,Sebetto and Dinan would wage a torrid battle for the lead before Sebetto would drive around the high side to grab the top spot on lap 11.

The last 10 laps of the feature were marred by yellows, wiping out any leads Sebetto would grab. Brubaker tried several low passes as the laps wound down, but could not get the job done Sebetto would take his 4th career Attica victory over Brubaker, Andy Shammo, Dinan and Duane Zablocki.

Ken Hahn bolted into the lead at the drop of the green for the Attica late model 20-lap feature with Curts Deisenroth hounding. At the half-way mark Hahn had his handsfull with defending track champion Larry Kingseed, Deisenroth and Ryan Missler. Deisenroth would grab the top spot on lap 14 with a move around Kingseed as Hahn began to fade. By lap 15 the running order was Deisenroth, Kingseed, Coffman, Hahn, Missler and Ernie Haynes who had hung around the top 7 all night.

Coffman would driver under Kingseed following a lap 17 caution to grab the runner-up spot and would blast under Deisenroth for the lead exiting turn 4 with just 2 laps remaining. He would go on to score his first career win over Deisenroth, Missler, Kingseed and 12th place starter John Mayes Sr. to round out the top 5.

In the dirt truck feature, Steve Endicott and Ward would battle the entire 15-laps for the lead, with Endicott hold the advantage for 14 1/4 laps. Ward would execute his winning move exiting turn 2 on the last lap for his his third career Attica victory. Endicott, Art Ball, Eric DeVana and Shawn Valenti would round out the top five.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, May 25, as the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions make their second visit of the season, along with the first appearance of the Sunoco American Late Model Series on Coors Light/Fultz Fabrication & Speed Shop Night.

Reed Wins Wild One at Attica, Shammo Continues Hot Streak, Bores Roars Back in Attica Late Models, Arnold Wins Thrilling Truck Feature

By Brian Liskai

(Attica, OH)
Byron Reed felt like he let a feature win get away from him last week. He wasn't about to let it happen again Friday, out dueling Rob Chaney and Greg Wilson to win his 18th career 410 sprint feature at Attica Raceway Park on World Auto Parts of Huron & Cleveland Night.

Millbury, Ohio's Andy Shammo continued his hot streak - he won a pair of features last Saturday at Fremont Speedway - as he grabbed the lead with just two laps remaining to claim his third career victory in the 305 sprints.

Bellevue, Ohio's Mike Bores passed his dad halfway through the Fultz Fabrication & Speed Shop Attica Late Model's A-main - in his dad's back-up car - and claimed his fourth career victory.

Tiffin, Ohio's Brian Arnold raced door to door with Steve Endicott the entire 15 laps of the dirt truck feature before scoring his third career checkered.

In the World Auto Parts of Huron/Cleveland 410 Sprint feature, Fremont's Mike Linder grabbed the lead from his pole starting spot, but it was short-lived, as fourth-starting Rob Chaney wheeled around Linder, Brandon Martin and Byron Reed to grab the point on lap 4. Reed would narrowly avert disaster on the fourth circuit as he and Mike Linder got together in turn 3, with Reed bouncing off the inside tire barrier.

Chaney would continue to rim-ride in the lead with Reed moving into second and ninth starter Greg Wilson sling-shoting into third by lap 8. They continued in that order, while all eyes were on Castalia, Ohio's Caleb Griffith. The B-main winner had steadily moved from his 17th starting spot to 5th by lap 12. At the half-way mark of the 30-lap feature, the running order was Chaney, Reed, Wilson, Linder and Griffith.

The action really heated up with 10 circuits remaining, as Wilson, Chaney and Reed would race three-wide for the lead down the back stretch, with Wilson barely holding the top spot at the flag stand over Reed, Chaney and now 14th starter Lee Jacobs. Reed would sweep by Wilson a lap later exiting turn 2 to take the lead. The yellow would fly on lap 24 for Wilson who exited with a flat right rear. He would come from the tail to finish 7th.

Reed would hold off Chaney the remaining six laps for the victory, with Jacobs finishing third, Griffith fourth and Linder battling back for fifth.

"I felt like I let one get away from us last week," said Reed who lost to Brock Mayes by less than at foot on May 4. "I wasn't going to let that happen again."

"I changed my line a little in turn two and was able to get under Rob (Chaney)," said Reed beside his Reebar Die Casting, Weld Wheel, Pro Shock sponsored JEI chassis.

In the 305 A-Main, Green Springs, Ohio driver Kevin Lee would jump into the lead from his outside pole starting spot where moved when 2nd place starter Chad Wilson spun on the initial start. Lee couldn't shake Matt Ferrell, as the duo raced side by side until lap 10 when the action would halt for a flip involving Bryan Sebetto and Chad Gullett (both were alright, but were done for the night). As Lee sat on the the front stretch, his right rear tire went flat, sending him to the pits for repairs.

Ferrell would inherit the lead but he now had his hands full with Dustin Dinan. Those two would race side by side until Dinan got the advantage on lap 17, bringing along 11th place starter Andy Shammo who had quietly moved through the field. Dinan would not budge from the bottom of the track, forcing Shammo to the middle. However, Dinan would slip up ever so slightly exiting turn 2 with just two laps remaining, allowing Shammo to get under him and grab the top spot.

Shammo would take the checkered over Dinan, Ferrell, Bryan Scott and Dustin Keegan.

"I've been around long enough to know when things are going this good you just appreciate it because it can change just like that," said Shammo beside his Village Inn/Fort Ball Pizza Palace sponsored #48. "I have to thank Lamar and Yvone Burkin for putting me in this car and all of our great sponsors like Matt Tille Enterprises and KS Sales and Service, Roots Poultry, Adlers Transmissions, Advanced Speciality Contractor, Lotycz & Sons Floor Covering, Kate an Al's Restaurant...without all of their help we couldn't do this."

Mike Bores wasn't even going to race Friday night. He had nearly destroyed his regular late model in a wicked crash the week before and it wasn't back together. But he received encouragement from friends and family and decided to take his dad up on his offer to drive his back-up car.

However, it was his dad, John Bores, who would grab the early lead in the 20-lap feature, with Jim Fleming and Larry Kingseed - who already has 2 wins this season - in tow. On lap four, Kingseed would spin to make the running order John Bores, Fleming, Mike Bores and John Mayes Sr. Mike would move around Fleming into the runner-up spot on lap six and would pressure his day for the lead. Mike would slip under John on lap 10 for the top spot.

While Mike cruised to a four car-length lead, John Bores, Fleming, Mayes, Ken Hahn and 12th-starter Ryan Missler would wage a torrid battle.

At the checkered Mike Bores took the win over John Bores, Mayes, Hahn and Missler.

"My car was tore up pretty good and Pork Chop (Brandon Smith) worked his tail off this week to try and get it ready...we just ran out of time. I wasn't going to race, but dad and Brian Liskai talked me into getting the back-up car out and here we are. That car is fast...I might have to leave mine in the shop," said Bores beside his Wick's Bar, All Air Heating & Cooling sponsored late model.

The dirt truck feature had some of the best racing of the night, as Brian Arnold and Steve Endicott literally raced door to door the entire 15 laps. Arnold would lead one lap by a foot only to see Endicott take the slight advantage at the flag stand the next lap. Arnold was able to finally pull away by a truck length the last two laps for the win. Endicott, Cory Ward, 12th-starter Art Ball and Shawn Valenti would round out the top five.

"Steve raced me hard and we rubbed on each other the whole race. That was a lot of fun," said Arnold beside his Burns Electric, Make-A-Wish, Burns Iron & Metal, Air Cooled Engines #33 truck.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, May 18, as Fisher Performances Presents Scout Night with the 410 sprints, 305 sprints, late models and dirt trucks in action. All Scouts - boys and girls - and their pack leaders who wear their uniforms get in free.
