You know what this is about. Besides Kuwabara, Keiko is one of the most hated characters in Yu Yu Hakusho. In this section we express our anger for Keiko-bashers.
Here we will also respond to the statements about Keiko.
Also note that we will use other characters as a comparison, not because we dislike them or anything of the sort, but to prove our point.
Most people hate Keiko because she may be a possible threat to the popularity of their favorite character (i.e. Botan, Yukina). When you say someone is better, it’s an opinion. Let’s start with the things that usually have people like Keiko.
- She is always faithful to her loved ones (hence the name of our shrine).
- She is a smart person.
- She’s Yusuke’s girlfriend/sweetheart.
- She is thoughtful to others.
- She doesn’t allow others to push her around.
- She’s a gentle, caring person.
- (what she’s mostly bashed for is actually one of her plusses) She has her super slap that can render Yusuke unconscious.
- She is innocent and pure.
- She has a strong heart and unyielding will.
- She is honest and respectful to everyone.
Now onto the nitty-gritty. Here are a few quotes people say about Keiko, in which we will defend her position as a character.
“Keiko slaps everyone too much.”
- What other characters has she slapped besides Yusuke and insignificant jerks? Has she slapped anyone without a reason? It proves she does not want to be touched in any inappropriate way (called ‘self-defense’, if you didn’t know) or when she disciplines Yusuke. She wants Yusuke to be more respectful and have more courtesy to her, and doesn’t everyone else want that? Botan smacks people with her oar in the same situation, and Shizuru would knock them out flat on their face. So you have three choices: get severe brain damage from Botan’s oar, be unconscious for hours from Shizuru’s punches, or a stinging red mark on your cheek. Lovely. Keiko has a right to protect her privacy, and so does everyone else. So if she doesn’t slap someone, what do you want her to do? Say to Yusuke/some other type of jerk, “Please don’t lift my skirt up. Pretty please?” Come on, what kind of excuse is that?
“Keiko doesn’t deserve Yusuke! Botan is way better!”
- The infamous quote. Honestly, if you’ve got a problem with the couples, take it up with the creators of Yu Yu Hakusho. The way bashers say this implies that Keiko doesn’t deserve to be with anyone. What makes Botan, Yukina, Shizuru, or Genkai any more special? Don’t say ‘Because Botan is the grim reaper/Yukina is an ice apparition/Shizuru is a cool, tough person/Genkai is the master of the spirit wave’. That way, you might as well be labeled as racists. Yusuke would certainly disagree with this opinion. Who does he really care about? All of his friends, but Keiko especially. For example, when he fought Toguro, he uttered a “Kei…ko…”. He might as well have said “Bo…tan…”, but he didn’t. Why? Because Keiko is extremely important to him. Keiko is more than deserving of Yusuke compared to any other female of YYH. And plain as day, everyone can see they are more than just friends.
“Keiko isn’t as pretty as Botan.”/ any other variation
- What? When you see someone as ‘plain’ (as people would describe Keiko’s appearance), with brown hair, brown eyes, and normal colors, you assume she’s not as cute/pretty/beautiful as someone else? Keiko was born as a human, and therefore cannot help it if she doesn’t have long, sky blue hair or magenta-pink eyes, or green hair and wine-red eyes. Besides that point, if you judge on appearance alone, you’re a pretty poor judge on the characters.
“Keiko is so annoying!”
- She’s annoying for caring about others? She’s annoying for defending herself? She’s annoying for being smart? She’s annoying for being normal? You lost us.
“Keiko doesn’t do anything in the series.”
- This almost isn’t worth arguing over. Without Keiko in there, Yusuke would have been dropped flat on his ass by his enemies. Wait, he’d actually still be dead. XD
“Keiko nags too much.”
- This is a big one. She doesn’t nag to be annoying or make Yusuke’s life miserable, but she does it because she cares so much about him. Who wouldn’t be worried if they’re friend was out fighting for his life and getting himself into trouble? She wants Yusuke to live a good life and is the only one who can set him straight. Since Yusuke’s often rowdy and lazy at the same time, Keiko is there to oppose him and make sure he goes along alright. How else is she supposed to make Yusuke listen?
“Keiko is a slut.”
- To whoever said, says, or will say this, know what the word means before you actually use it. A ‘slut’ is usually someone who uses another in a relationship for sexual purposes. Give us one detail in YYH Keiko has ever given off that impression. Sluts most often discard the person when they are done with them, or when they don’t appear to be useful anymore. Keiko is completely loyal to her friends and would never do that to Yusuke. She would never use them, much less throw them away. Sluts don’t typically truly love the other person as well. This word does not describe her in any way, so to the ones who think she is, clear your head, or we will.
