June 2009
The last two weeks of school flew by. We had practices, fundraisers, and both high school and middle school graduations. These two weeks allowed us to begin the bonding process and build a good foundation for the season. Each team created both long term and short term goals. Many of their goals are in regards to stunting.
Every season we have to start from the beginning with what is called "stunt progression". Every member of the team must learn the position of their bodies in each stunt so that it becomes a natural motion. In cheerleading we call it "muscle memory". Your body must automatically move without thought. Both JV and Varsity worked hard and achieved their short term goals for those two weeks.
Another goal was to take tumbling classes. Without any tumbling or gymnastics in our local area, this goal is hard to achieve. It takes money and family support to transport 19 cheerleaders to the nearest gymnastics center 50 miles south of us. On June 30, 2009 we attended our first tumbling class. I say "we" because I too joined my team in the quest to tumble. I hope we continue this weekly adventure and look forward to watching them achieve this goal.
May 2009
On May 9th KCHS Cheer had their annual tryouts. After a week of clinics and a lot of hard work, the team was created. We welcome 8 JV and 11 Varsity members. We also started our first fundraiser of the season that same day. In the weeks that followed we fundraised, fundraised, and yes...we fundraised. Pre-season's main focus is FUNDRAISING!!! Without it, we wouldn't have uniforms or be able to attend cheer camp.

Well our 2008-2009 season has come to an end. We had our end of the year banquet filled with family and friends. I awarded two members with the Coach's Award. Lily received the award for the JV team, and Tyler received the award for the Varsity team. We all visited, ate pizza, and watched the famous end of the year DVD I put together each season. We also said good-bye to our three Seniors
; Jacy, Nicy, and Chelsea. These three were my first group of girls I coached. They will be greatly missed, but we know they have a bright future ahead of them.
It was a great season, and I'm already looking forward to next year!lol

On January 17, 2009, our team entered their first cheer competition. It was a bit nerve racking getting everything done before the day arrived. Most teams practiced months and months in advance. We practiced for a few short weeks. Our team did a great job for their first ever competition. We know that we definitely want to enter the competition scene in the future. I'm looking forward to the future success of our team!

We have had 9 pre-season practices so far, and we are pleased with how hard every member is working to help achieve their team's pre-season goals. Each member has been working on stunt progression and they are beginning to find their place as a stunter. |
