June 2009

The last two weeks of school flew by.  We had practices, fundraisers, and both high school and middle school graduations.  These two weeks allowed us to begin the bonding process and build a good foundation for the season.  Each team created both long term and short term goals.  Many of their goals are in regards to stunting.

Every season we have to start from the beginning with what is called "stunt progression".  Every member of the team must learn the position of their bodies in each stunt so that it becomes a natural motion.  In cheerleading we call it "muscle memory".  Your body must automatically move without thought.  Both JV and Varsity worked hard and achieved their short term goals for those two weeks.

Another goal was to take tumbling classes.  Without any tumbling or gymnastics in our local area, this goal is hard to achieve.  It takes money and family support to transport 19 cheerleaders to the nearest gymnastics center 50 miles south of us. On June 30, 2009 we attended our first tumbling class.  I say "we" because I too joined my team in the quest to tumble.  I hope we continue this weekly adventure and look forward to watching them achieve this goal.

May 2009

On May 9th KCHS Cheer had their annual tryouts. After a week of clinics and a lot of hard work, the team was created. We welcome 8 JV and 11 Varsity members. We also started our first fundraiser of the season that same day. In the weeks that followed we fundraised, fundraised, and yes...we fundraised. Pre-season's main focus is FUNDRAISING!!! Without it, we wouldn't have uniforms or be able to attend cheer camp.

Ending Our Season

Well our 2008-2009 season has come to an end.  We had our end of the year banquet filled with family and friends.  I awarded two members with the Coach's Award.  Lily received the award for the JV team, and Tyler received the award for the Varsity team. We all visited, ate pizza, and watched the famous end of the year DVD I put together each season.  We also said good-bye to our three Seniorssad; Jacy, Nicy, and Chelsea.  These three were my first group of girls I coached.  They will be greatly missed, but we know they have a bright future ahead of them.

It was a great season, and I'm already looking forward to next year!lol

Competition

On January 17, 2009, our team entered their first cheer competition.  It was a bit nerve racking getting everything done before the day arrived.  Most teams practiced months and months in advance.  We practiced for a few short weeks.   Our team did a great job for their first ever competition.  We know that we definitely want to enter the competition scene in the future.  I'm looking forward to the future success of our team!

August 2008

The month of August was filled with a lot of fun and hard work.  The first week of August sent us to Santa Barbara, CA to UCA cheerleading camp.  We spent four days walking, cheering, dancing, and stunting.  Both squads learned so much and we saw a lot of growth in our JV team.  Two of our Varsity members, Chelsea and Amanda, made the All-Star team bound for London, England right after Christmas.  Our team received The Most Improved trophy out of all the teams there.
We returned to King City on Friday and were up bright and early Tuesday morning to begin double days.  We conditioned and practiced from 8am-2pm.
School began August 25th along with regular season practices.
Our first time to shine will be at our Jamboree September 5, 2008!

After two months of fund raising, we are half way to our goal!   We have had 9 pre-season practices so far, and we are pleased with how hard every member is working to help achieve their team's pre-season goals.  Each member has been working on stunt progression and they are beginning to find their place as a stunter.
We have the rest of the month off, but will resume summer practice the 2nd week of July during our 1st annual youth summer camp! Check out our fund raising link to learn more about our upcoming youth summer camp.

2008-2009 Pre-Season

Our 2008-2009 season has gotten off to a great start.  The fund raising efforts by this year's team has been outstanding.  As coaches, we are extremely excited with the hard work we have seen.  Our first fund raiser (Mega Dough) was a huge success. We sold over $9,000 worth of cookie dough and profited 50% of that!  Many of our members are over half way done with their balance for the year.  We are currently selling candy and car wash tickets.  We have additional fund raisers this July, including a week long youth summer camp.
