Monday, May 1st, 2006 > > Windswept officially opens! Let's spread the Whistle love! XD Also, it's Kazamatsuri Sho's BIRTHDAY coming up on May 10th! It's Higuchi Daisuke's birthday on the same day, too. (She's the lady who created Whistle in case you didn't know.) Yay for these two awesome people! I'm trying to work on some fan art for the big day. XD

Series Overview

Whistle! is an anime and manga created by Higuchi Daisuke. The manga spans 24 volumes, and the anime spans 39 episodes. The series follows the journey of Kazamatsuri Sho, a determined, passionate person who dreams of becoming a pro in soccer. His original school, Musashi no Mori, that's famous for its extremely talented soccer team, immediately rejected Sho because of his short stature. Determined to play soccer, Sho transfers to Sakura Jousui, a school with a second-rate soccer team. Despite that reputation, Sho and his teammates in Sakura Jousui learn and grow together throughout the series as they fight their way to the nationals.

There are a variety of loveable personalities in the series. Whether you're into the stoic ice prince, the playful and outgoing personality, or the sweet and innocent type, you're bound to find at least one character you'll love in Whistle!

Plot-wise, there's obviously going to be a lot of soccer games and matches in the series. It's not just plain kicking the ball around, back and forth, though. There are lots of exciting twists and climaxes, especially when Sho is involved, since he's known to pull off some miraculous plays during games. Besides soccer, there are some side plots in the series regarding the boys' families. Divorce, rivalries, reunions, and death. It isn't all about soccer. And, along with all that, comedy relief is sprinkled throughout the series to make you snort and giggle! (And there really is some funny stuff, there!)

I haven't seen the manga yet, so I can't say much about that. The anime has consistently nice art throughout the entire series, though. Also, another nice little thing about the anime are the soccer tips at the end of every episode! A 3-D, chibi Sho shows you how to do a cool, new soccer move each time!

In conclusion, Whistle is <3!
