Reiki (ray key) is a non-invasive balancing of Universal Life Force Energy. According to the National Institute of Health, NIH, Reiki is considered a Biofield Energy Medicine. From their official website, nccam.nih.gov/ "...Reiki is an energy medicine practice that originated in Japan. In Reiki, the practitioner places his hands on or near the person receiving treatment, with the intent to transmit ki, believed to be a life-force energy. Practitioners also believe that they can treat themselves with Reiki and send Reiki across short or long distances. In the United States, Reiki is part of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM)"
Also from the National Institute of Health NCCAM:
"Reiki: A therapy in which practitioners seek to transmit a universal energy to a person, either from a distance or by placing their hands on or near that person. The intent is to heal the spirit and thus the body."
"Biofield Energy Medicines: Therapies that use energy fields with the intent to affect health. Some fields, such as magnetic fields and light, have been measured while others, have not. Examples of energy therapies include magnetic therapy, Qi Gong, Theraputic Touch and Reiki."
"Complementary Medicine: A group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine. [IMPORTANT NOTE:] Difference between Complimentary and Alternative: Complementary medicine is used together with conventional medicine, and alternative medicine is used in place of conventional medicine.
Reiki is beneficial in assisting any life energy to return to its perfect balance, according to its need. Reiki is energy flowing only as there is a purpose. One's personal opinion of what, where, how much is needed is unnecessary for Reiki to work. In fact, any personal opinions are not part of what Reiki does! Reiki will only go to where an energy has need. It is safe, non-invasive energy. It has a few generalities that any Reiki teacher will explain. i.e.: Reiki does allow increased metabolizing of medications, so monitor any chronic medication need; wait until after a surgical procedure where anesthetics are used; faster healing time, too, so monitor removable stitches, etc. Reiki can allow medications to work quickly and effectively, while diminishing side effects. Your Reiki Practitioner or Reiki Master will explain or send Reiki only to the time and place of the need.
