Katherine Ward Childminding

An Introduction to Me

My name is Kath and I am based in the central Southport area.  I have been an Ofsted registered childminder since Autumn 2000, and in that time have cared for thirteen children, as well as having three of my own! (aged 11, 8 and 5).  I am a member of NCMA and am fully insured through them.

After leaving university I worked at the British Museum in London, however I decided on a change of direction after my daughter was born.  Childminding offered me the chance to run my own business whilst still caring for my own children, and I am now really enjoying childminding as my new long-term career, working in Southport, Merseyside, where we now live.

I can offer a high quality flexible childcare service based around our loving family environment.  We have a large house with lots of toys and games for varying age groups, also books in abundance.  We play music and sing together at the piano; we are not afraid of messy play and regularly paint and use playdough.  The children love playing in our fully enclosed garden – we have lots of outside toys too, including a sandpit, and various small animals.

We have a daily routine based around nearby Linaker School; I take the children out to toddler groups, the children’s centre, the library, nearby parks, and on other local outings.  We are also members of the toy library which we visit regularly.

I hold a first aid certificate, a food hygiene certificate, and the Cache ICP, and have also attended many training workshops since my registration.  I fully recognise the importance of training, and since November 2004 have been a member of the Sefton Childminders’ Network, which exists to support and train high quality childminders working to national standards.  I hold an NVQ level 3 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development.

To fit around my family commitments, I now work from Tuesdays to Thursdays from 8am to 5pm, and within those hours am able to care for children part-time, full-time or term-time only, at short notice and for short periods of time, as well as on a long term basis.  I can also drop off and/or collect children from sessions at Treehouse Nursery at Linaker School if required.  I am registered to look after three children under five years old, and one further child from 5-8 years old, in addition to my own children.  I can cater for a vegetarian diet, and am more than happy to use your own re-usable/cotton nappies if requested.
