Profile Facts:

• Tribe: Southern Water Tribe
• Type of Bender: Water
• Age: 14
• Family Members: Sokka (older brother), Hakoda (father), Kanna/Gran Gran (grandmother), Katara's mother deceased, killed by the Fire Nation.
• Desires: to master Waterbending. She is the only waterbending she knows of still existing in the South Pole. She has no one to teach her the art of waterbending a mostly long forgotten art of her people.
• Personality traits: Maternal, protective, stubborn and determined. Does not like people to think of her as weak because she's a girl. Though she often fights with her brother, she is very close to him.

Katara and her brother were left in charge of thier small village when thier father Hakoda, his best friend Bato and the rest of the village warriors set off in thier ships to help the Earth Kingdom defend itself from the powerful Fire Nation. For the last one hundred years the Fire Nation has wage a campaign for world domination and is now on the brink of bringing down the last powerful nation capable of stopping them, the Earth Kingdom. 

But one day on a fishing expidition, fate intervened and Katara and Sokka's lives would change dramatically when they discover a young boy named Aang frozen in a block of ice while on a fishing expedition. They soon discover Aang is the Avatar who's been missing for the last 100 years and the worlds last and only hope against the Fire Nation. But he is a young unrealized Avatar without any master to teach him.

So Katara and Sokka set out on a journey with Aang first to the North Pole to meet with thier sister tribe in hopes of finding Aang and Katara a Waterbending Master to teach them.

Along the way, Katara begins to self-discover some bending abilities of her own as she, Sokka and Aang must constantly evade capture from a bansished Prince, a power hungry Admiral Zhao and several other Fire Nation soilders. Doing this time, she forms a close bond with Aang and tries her best to protect him as Aang struggles to learn hidden skills and control his Avatar Spirit, an awesome and frightening power he uses as defense but has not control over.
