Update 05/05/10: The 2nd annual Dave 'Willy' Williams tribute tournament took place on Sunday 2 May when eight teams competed for the 'legend' trophy. Willy FC, a team selected from members of Willy's family and friends, were joined by Kartiers keeper Gorczynski Krzysztof and proved that they were to be no pushovers in the competition when they battled to a 0-0 draw with one of the pre tournament favourites 6:22 Squadron, There was also a draw between the two other teams in Group A, Dynamite Kids (without Dynamite) drawing 1-1 with Dave Rowbottom's Titch's Giants. 'Big Kris' in goal for Willy FC was proving to be a formidable barrier and the team representing Willy reached the semi-finals thanks to two further 0-0 draws! 6:22 Squadron thumped Titch's Giants 3-0 and topped the group thanks to a 1-0 win over Dynamite Kids. In Group B, John Glavin's Window Lickers opened their account with a 2-0 win over Mullet FC and remained unbeaten in the group thanks to draw's against Festers Moaners and Big Dogs. Dave Hawe's Big Dogs won a tight encounter with Simon Winstanley's Festers Moaners 2-1 and then made it two wins on the trot thanks to a 3-1 win over Mullet FC. Mullet FC grew into the competition and won their final game against Fester Moaners 1-0 but it was Big Dogs who won the group with Window Lickers just behind them. Both semi-finals were tight affairs with Adrian Ward's 6:22 Squadron scraping through 1-0 against Window Lickers. In the other semi-final Willy FC finally broke their duck and scored a goal in the competition but another record was broken when Big Kris was finally beaten sending the tie against Big Dogs into a penalty shoot out. Three penalties each saw both sides miss one each so with the teams level on 2-2 the shoot out went into sudden death, Stuart Campbell's strike was saved by Big Kris to send Willy FC into the final. The large crowd were all behind Willy FC in the final but 6:22 Squadron proved too strong running out 2-0 winners and maintaining a remarkable record of not conceding a goal throughout the tournament. Generous donations from players, spectators, family, friends and patrons of the Albion Vaults, Selby helped raise over £550 for The Meningitis Trust which now means that over £1400 has now been raised for the charity in memory of the legend that is Dave 'Willy' Williams. Special thanks to all who have participated and contributed and a special thankyou to John and Sharon in the Albion for their help and generosity.
Update 06/04/10: Kartiers FC continue on a crest of a slump with both sides losing at the weekend. The 2nd X1 regained some pride during the 1-3 defeat at home to Old Malton. The unbeaten league leaders mauled the Beavers second string 0-10 earlier in the season but found the going a lot tougher on Saturday with Sean Lucas capping a fine man of the match display with a well taken goal. The 1st X1 played well enough in patches but still sank to a 0-3 defeat at Dringhouses not helped by an early injury to midfield dynamo Liam Olsson. The performance was much better than recent moronesque type displays but the side may be grateful for a weekend off this week with only the 2nd X1 in action as they travel to Copmanthorpe, 2pm ko.
Update 31/03/10: Its been a frustrating few weeks for Kartiers FC, the 1st X1 have been knocked out at the semi final stage of two major cup's whilst the 2nd X1 saw the Reserve A fixture away at Huntington bizarrely postponed as well as suffering a sickening 3-5 defeat to fellow strugglers Haxby. The 1st X1 lost the Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup semi-final (20/3) 0-2 at Aberford Albion. Injuries robbed the side of several first choice players but the manner of defeat against an average Aberford side summed up the Beavers recent poor form. The 2nd X1 travelled to Huntington on the same day but had to wait until the York sides 1st X1 had finished demolishing Tate & Lyle FC before they could take to the field, when they did the referee called the game off due to an unfit pitch. A fact made more galling when the James Street ground was made available to Huntington the week before the game. A week later and neither sides fortunes improved, although at least the 1st X1 were able to recall a couple of players that missed the Aberford defeat. Unfortunately, despite a string of chances, the 1st X1 could not reach the York FA Senior Cup Final for the third time in five years, losing 0-1 to Huntington Rovers. The 2nd X1 burst into a 3-1 lead against visiting Haxby, Tom Littlewood, Jack Healey and Dave Hawe the goalscorers but defensive lapses allowed the visitors to hit back and clinch a vital three points thanks to a 3-5 victory which moves Haxby above Kartiers in the table. This Saturday the 1st X1 travel to Dringhouses (1.30pm ko) whilst the 2nd X1 host Old Malton (2pm ko).
Update 16/03/10: A Matthew Howgate inspired Tadcaster Albion cruised to a 3-1 victory over Kartiers FC last night at Selby Town FC, The Beavers fourth defeat in five games. Howgate, who plies his trade for Brighouse Town, the current NCEL Division One leaders, was part of a strong Albion side who clinically desposed of a vastly understrength Kartiers who were missing no less than eight 1st X1 regulars. 2nd X1 skipper David Hawe made his first senior start of the season before he left the field at half-time due to an ankle injury, Daniel Hewitt started for the first time since November and Gregorz Mleczek lead the attack despite not starting any game since October. Johnny Breheney and Rob Neilson made the step up from the 2nd X1 during a gutsy second period which saw young striker Tom Littlewood score his first ever goal for The Beavers senior side. The injury list grows even longer with keeper Mike Smales and skipper Gareth Roberts both picking up knocks last night which makes them both doubtful for this Saturday's (20/3) Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup semi-final tie at Aberford Albion, 1.30pm ko. Gary Lumley, Luke Crowther, James Barrett, Ben Olsson, Liam Olsson, James Tweedie, Louis Blackwell and Jon Page all missed last nights game through injury with Ben Olsson definitely out of the Aberford game. Late decisions will be made before finalising the semi-final squad which hampers the 2nd X1's preparations for the Reserve A fixture at Huntington Rovers. Despite having already played a league game at Huntington this season, a late switch due to an unfit James Street, (the previous game was regarded as a Kartiers FC 'home' fixture due to an admin error) and despite the Huntington ground being double booked this weekend the York side have refused to switch the fixture to Selby and so the second string must kick their heels before heading north for a 3.15pm ko. Anthony Jennings is a doubt due to a knee injury but Tom Marshall may be available after missing the 3-0 win over Wilberfoss.
Update 14/03/10: The Beavers 2nd X1 registered a vital win over struggling Wilberfoss to keep their heads above the relegation waters. The 3-0 win, courtesy of Tom Littlewood's sixth goal of this, his debut season, Craig Campbell's fourth of the campaign and an own goal engineered by Josh Brigham, moves the side up to seventh in the Reserve A table. The 1st X1 battled to a 0-0 draw at reigning Premier League champions Hamilton Panthers. Jon Page's late call off and work commitments preventing Liam Olsson from making the kick off meant a late change to the starting line up with youngster Adam Tessyman starting a 1st X1 game for the first time this season and Tom O'Neill was handed his first ever senior squad call up. Injuries to Louis Blackwell, James Barrett and Andrew Woodall may force them to miss Monday nights (15/3) floodlit game v Tadcaster Albion, 7.30pm ko.
The 2nd annual Dave 'Willy' Williams tribute 5/6-a-side tournament will take place on Sunday 2 May at Selby Abbey Leisure Centre from 11am. Eight teams are expected to compete for a trophy kindly donated by the family of the much loved and sadly missed Kartiers FC Legend. Any former team mates, friends or work colleagues who wish to take part in this event are urged to contact anyone connected with the club asap.
Update 11/03/10: The Selby Town FC experiment is sadly backfiring as Kartiers slumped to their second consecutive floodlit defeat, their third league defeat in a row, with Poppleton performing a smash and grab operation whilst stealing the points with a 1-2 victory. During a dominant opening half which manager Ian jennings described as 'one of our best forty five minutes displays of the season', Kartiers took a fifth minute lead thanks to an Andrew Woodall header from a Jon Page cross. Woodall then struck the bar with another header before somehow managing to screw a shot wide from within the six yard box with the goal gaping. Louis Blackwell struck the post with a shot from distance as Kartiers piled on the pressure but the visitors somehow managed to go into the interval on level terms with a fine goal on the break. The second half was more even with Poppleton piling men behind the ball and hitting Kartiers on the break and the tactics worked a treat five minutes from time when Poppleton stole the points from a game that Kartiers should have had sewn up before half time. 2nd X1 regulars Craig Campbell and Jack Healey were impressive at the back for Kartiers whilst youngster Rob Neilson showed some good touches on his senior debut when he came on as a second half substitute. This Saturday the 1st X1 travel to Hamilton Panthers and welcome back Luke Crowther from injury whilst Craig Dickinson is available after missing last nights game. Ben Olsson is expected to be out for at least a month with a knee injury whilst there is concern over the fitness of James Tweedie who has an ankle problem. The 2nd X1 host Wilberfoss in a crucial game in Reserve A and should be able to select from an almost full strength squad.
Update 08/03/10: Both Kartiers sides suffered 1-2 defeats on Saturday. The 2nd X1 could not reproduce the form that earned them a 3-2 victory over Dringhouses only two weeks previously, Glen Littlwood scored the goal in their 1-2 defeat whilst the 1st X1 failed to build on a fifth minute opener from Gareth Roberts as they succumbed to an injury time winner against title challengers Haxby. The 1st X1 are back in action this Wednesday (10/3) when they entertain Poppleton at Selby Town FC, 7.30pm ko, before they travel to Hamilton Panthers on Saturday. The 2nd X1 host Wilberfoss this coming weekend, 2pm ko.
Update 06/03/10: The midweek loss to Copmanthorpe (0-2), which may have finally extinguished any hopes of the Premier League title, cost the side in more ways than one. Luke Crowther is out for the forseeable future with a hamstring injury whilst news came through on the evening of keeper Jamie Hawksworth's move to Scarborough Athletic. Louis Blackwell also suffered a foot injury but hopes to be fit for today's league game at home to Haxby, 2pm ko. Liam Olsson misses the game due to work commitments whilst Michael Smales takes Hawksworth's place between the sticks, his first senior appearance since September. Craig Dickinson looks set to replace Crowther in a game that may still have huge consequences as to where the title ends up this season. The 2nd X1 travel to Dringhouses hoping for a quickfire league double having beating the York side 3-2 only two weeks ago. Anthony Jennings, Jack Healey and Adam Tessyman all miss the game although the side is boosted by the inclusion of Glen Littlewood and Daniel Fisk.
Update 28/02/10: Both fixtures fell foul of the weather this weekend meaning yet more evening fixtures for Kartiers FC. The James Street ground had sections under water forcing the postponement of the Reserve A fixture with Wigginton Grasshoppers whilst Tate & Lyle FC were informed by their landlords, Selby Town FC, that the Richard Street ground was unfit for play early on Friday. The wet weather also puts in doubt the Premier League fixture v Copmanthorpe on Wednesday (3/3), 7.30pm ko.
Update 25/02/10: Kartiers FC face a busy couple of months and, weather permitting, will be playing an evening fixture almost every week until the end of the season starting with next Wednesday's (3/3) game v Copmanthorpe at Selby Town's ground, 7.30pm ko. Before that game there is the small matter of a local derby v Tate & Lyle this Saturday (27/2), 2pm ko. Ben Olsson has been recalled to the 1st X1 squad after completing ninety minutes for the 2nd X1 during the 3-2 win over Dringhouses. Manager Ian Jennings awaits news on the availability of Louis Blackwell before finalising his squad and Jon Page is a doubt due to work commitments whilst Marcin Wolski definitely misses the game as he is on Selby Town duty. The 2nd X1 host Wigginton Grasshoppers and are expected to be almost at full strength with Anthony Jennings in line to replace Ben Olsson in the starting eleven. Adam Tessyman and Tom O'Neill also come into contention for a place in a squad looking to build on last weekend's victory which took the side out of the relegation places.
Update 20/02/10: Both Kartiers sides enjoyed vital victories today with the 2nd X1 moving away from the new relegation position of fourth bottom in Reserve A thanks to a 3-2 victory over Dringhouses. Jack Healey scored twice and Tom Littlewood made it three in his last three reserve team appearances to secure the points. Ben Olsson was released from the 1st X1 to gain much needed game time having not completed a game since early December and he appears to have come through the fixture with no problems which should put him in line for a recall to the 1st X1 for next week's local derby at Tate & Lyle. Next Saturday (27/2) the 2nd X1 will be looking to win back to back league games for the first time this season when they host Wigginton Grasshoppers. The 1st X1 won 4-2 at in form Copmanthorpe with Louis Blackwell, Gary Lumley, Michael Braithwaite and Glen Littlewood all on target.
The club can announce that they have provisionally booked night games in March under floodlights at the home of Selby Town FC in an attempt to ease end of season fixture congestion. Games arranged so far are v Copmanthorpe on Wednesday 3 March and v Tadcaster Albion on Monday 15 March, both games 7.30pm ko.
Update 18/02/10: The season took a new twist last night when, at a special meeting of the league, the members agreed to re-structuring the divisions to try and prevent fixtures being played in May, as has been the norm in recent seasons. There will be no change to the Premier League but all other divisions will be cut to ten teams with a new fourth division formed. The effect this will have on Kartiers FC, as far as we understand it, is the same format will apply to the Reserve sections and a new division 'D' will be formed with four teams relegated from Reserve A this season. The 2nd X1 currently lie fourth from bottom of Reserve A. The 2nd X1 host Dringhouses this Saturday and will be without Paul Taylor due to the injury he sustained during last week's defeat at home to Dunnington. Jack Healey should be available after missing the Dunnington game with illness. The 1st X1 travel to Copmanthorpe almost at full strength. Ben Olsson and James Tweedie both return to the squad, Olsson was injured during the win at Wigginton (30/1) whilst Tweedie has not played since the defeat at Old Malton in December.
Update 13/02/10: Kartiers FC won a scrappy game at York St John Uni thanks to a second half goal from James Barrett. The 1-0 win keeps The Beavers 1st X1 in the chasing pack just behind the league leaders with the win all the more impressive given the absence of Ben Olsson, James Tweedie and Louis Blackwell. Glen Littlewood started for the first time since September and Jamie Hawksworth was back between the sticks after missing the 2-2 draw last week with Wilberfoss. The 2nd X1 have still not won two league games on the trot this season with a Craig Campbell effort the only consolation in the 1-3 defeat at home to Dunnington. More worryingly for the side was an injury to veteran defender Paul Taylor who was rushed to hospital with a suspected broken collar bone. Next Saturday (20/2) the 2nd X1 host Dringhouses whilst the 1st X1 travel to Copmanthorpe, both games 2pm ko.
Update 08/02/10: The 2nd X1 put in the performance of the season so far, defeating high flying York St John Uni 2-1 thanks to goals from Tom Littlewood and Glen Littlewood who calmly tucked away a penalty. No such good news from the 1st X1, playing their first home game since November, they had to come from behind to gain a point from a 2-2 draw with bottom of the table Wilberfoss. For the second week running, Gareth Roberts found the target twice. Next Saturday (13/2), The 2nd X1 hope to play on their James Street home ground for only the second time this season when they host Dunnington, whilst the 1st X1 travel to York St John Uni, both games 2pm ko.
Update 04/02/10: The weather once again looks like having a big say this weekend as Kartiers FC attempt to host Wilberfoss. The Beavers have not played a game on James Street since 28 November 2009 due to a combination of snow, rain and Station FC. A pitch inspection early in the week saw the ground very heavy in places and in previous seasons the club would not contemplate playing on the ground in its current state. But, with the knowledge that Station FC will play on the pitch regardless of its condition, Kartiers FC informed Wilberfoss that the game should go ahead. Unfortunately, more snow on Wednesday has once again put the game in jeopardy. Leading scorer James Tweedie will definitely miss the game should it go ahead, Tweedie was an unused substitute during last weekends 5-1 win over Wigginton and his ankle injury means he is still some weeks away from full fitness. Keeper Jamie Hawksworth will also miss the game, Alan Hullah takes his place between the sticks making him the sixth goalkeeper to wear the 1st team keepers jersey this season. Gary Lumley returns from suspension but manager Ian Jennings awaits news on Marcin Wolski before finalising his squad. The 2nd X1 travel to Reserve A league leaders York St John University with Craig Hewitt named in the squad after missing last week's narrow defeat at Huntington. Richard Taylor also missed the Huntington game but is back in the fourteen man squad whilst Johnny Breheney, who impressed as a second half substitute for the 1st X1 last week, is also set to bolster the 2nd X1 ranks.
Update 01/02/10: Both Kartiers sides were in action at the weekend for the first time since 12 December 2009. Unfortunately the 2nd X1 had to switch their home game to Huntington and the move failed to provide a much needed three points with Tom and Glen Littlewoods efforts proving not enough during a 2-3 defeat. The 1st X1 showed no ill effects from the enforced winter break racing into a three goal half-time lead before eventually running out 5-1 winners at Wigginton Grasshoppers, a repeat of the same scoreline when the two sides met in October. Louis Blackwell, Marcin Wolski and Gareth Roberts (2) were on target for The Beavers whilst an own goal completed the scoring. James Tweedie was an unused substitute due to an ankle injury and Ben Olsson had to be helped from the field during the first half after being on the wrong end of a quite dreadful tackle, so both players are doubts for this weekends (6/2) game at home to Wilberfoss (state of pitch permitting). The 2nd X1 are due to travel to York St John University, both games 2pm ko.
Update 29/01/10: All eyes on the weather forecast as Kartiers FC hope to play their first league game since 12 December with Wigginton Grasshoppers currently reporting no problems with their Mill Lane ground. James Tweedie has recovered from an ankle injury to take his place in the squad whilst Luke Crowther and Liam Olsson, who would have also missed last week's game against Copmanthorpe, are available. Manager Ian Jennings awaits news of Marcin Wolski's availability before finalising his squad. Despite the ridiculous, childish and pathetic comments made in the local press about 'a bit of rain and mud' Kartiers FC have had no option but to switch their Reserve A league game to Huntington. The James Street ground, in the opinion of one Kartiers committee member, is 'destroyed' and perhaps it is now time to accept that although the ground may not be fit to stage quality Saturday afternoon football it appears more than good enough for mickey mouse Sunday morning 'football'. Last Saturday (23/1), the 2nd X1 found Bishopthorpe strikers in an uncompromising mood during the 1-5 defeat. Five strikes on goal and five goals were the amazing stats with the Beavers, certainly during the second half, controlling the game for long spells. Rob Neilson scored the Kartiers consolation and he retains his place in a strong looking squad with first team regulars Daniel Hewitt and Glen Littlewood released from the 1st X1 for much needed game time. Huntington have kindly agreed to the switch of venue but have warned that any further rain may put the game in jeopardy.
Update 21/01/10: Kartiers FC are pleased to announce that the club has achieved The FA Charter Standard Adult Club award. The FA Charter Standard scheme looks to provide recognition to those clubs who demonstrate required standards, raising standards and reaching excellence. Kartiers FC are extremely pleased to recieve recognition from the FA which indicates that the club provides a safe, quality experience for its players.
Kartiers FC, however, are extremely frustrated that the thrill of receiving the award has been tarnished by the attitude of Station FC who currently rent the James Street ground for use on a Sunday morning. Station FC have twice now played fixtures on the ground when Kartiers FC have moved or postponed their own fixture due to a waterlogged pitch only for Station FC to switch their own designated away fixture to James Street. Last Sunday (17/1), despite standing water on the pitch, the ground was used and is that badly damaged that it has left Kartiers FC with no choice but to switch the home fixture this Saturday to Copmanthorpe. Station FC have also twice used the local press to taunt Kartiers FC about the situation. Kartiers FC will be discussing the matter with the Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust, who rent the field on behalf of Selby District Council, and an official statement will be issued via the local press and on www.kartiersfc.co.uk in due course.
Kartiers FC are not 100% certain that either of their games will take place this weekend as both Copmanthorpe and Bishopthorpe have quite rightly expressed concern about their own pitches due to the recent snow and wet weather. If the 1st X1 do manage to take to the field they will do so without Liam Olsson, Daniel Hewitt and Luke Crowther whilst James Tweedie is rated as extremely doubtful due to injury. Dale Huntington is also unavailable after leaving for University before he had a chance to make a first team appearance. Glen Littlewood and Andrew Woodall are in line to start a 1st X1 game for the first time since October whilst Craig Campbell and Simon Brown receive call up's from the reserves. The 2nd X1 welcome back Craig Hewitt for the trip to Bishopthorpe. Hewitt has also not featured since October, due to injury, but the side will be without young striker Tom Marshall who has an injured toe. Both games, fingers crossed, 2pm ko.
Update 14/01/10: Kartiers FC are once again facing a blank weekend. With the 2nd X1 having no scheduled game there was a slim hope that the 1st X1 could host Tadcaster Albion. However, a pitch inspection earlier in the week raised doubts and after another inspection today it was decided that the ground would not be fit for Saturday. Snow still covers large areas of the pitch and the goalmouths in particular are the worst affected areas. With the pitch almost unplayable before the snow fell, due to the decision by a Sunday morning 'football' team to play when the ground was clearly unfit, the expected thaw could bring yet another problem with the 1st X1 due to host Copmanthorpe on 23/01/10. The 2nd X1 also hope to be in action that day when they are due to travel to Bishopthorpe.
Update 06/01/10: The York & District Saturday Afternoon Football League have postponed all this weekends fixtures due to the current poor weather conditions and expected worsening conditions. This will mean, at this moment in time, that the 1st X1 will have six evening games and the 2nd X1 two and with the ever increasing problems with the James Street ground, and no end to the cold snap in sight, the situation is likely to become worse. The next scheduled fixtures see the 1st X1 hosting Tadcaster Albion on 16 January whilst the 2nd X1 were due to host Old Malton but with both teams at home, the 2nd X1 fixture has already been postponed due to the shortage of available pitches in the Selby area.
Update 02/01/10: The weather once again put paid to both fixtures today with Tadcaster Albion calling off the Premier League fixture over 24 hours before the scheduled kick off time whilst Dunnington at least left it until Saturday morning before calling off the Reserve A fixture. Next Saturday (9/1) the 1st X1 are due to host Riccall whilst the 2nd X1 travel to Hamilton Panthers.
Update 31/12/09: Fingers crossed, both teams will be in action at the weekend with the 1st X1 travelling to Tadcaster Albion and the 2nd X1 visiting Dunnington. The Beavers first string are without Gary Lumley and Marcin Wolski but welcome back James Topping for his first appearance since September. Luke Crowther also returns after missing the Old Malton game due to illness whilst recent signing Dale Huntington may be included in the squad. Daniel Hewitt may feature for the 2nd X1 as he continues to recover from a knee injury.
Update 22/12/09: Both games were called off last weekend and neither side is due to take the field now until 2 January 2010 when the 1st X1 are due to travel to Tadcaster Albion FC whilst the 2nd X1 also hit the road when they visit Dunnington. In truth, the 1st X1 game at home to Poppleton was called off as early as Wednesday (16/12), before the snow fell, this was due to the state of the ground after a recent Sunday morning game and with a fixture backlog already apparent, these are worrying times for the club who have no say or control over who uses the pitch and when. Poppleton were keen to host the fixture but the snow and freezing conditions put paid to any chance of the game being played. The Poppleton game is now one of four evening games already arranged for April and the Barkston Ash FA Cup semi-final, away to the winners of Selby RSSC and Aberford Albion, has been put back to 20 February.
Update 13/12/09: Kartiers FC slipped to fourth in the table, losing for the first time since mid August, after a 2-3 defeat at Old Malton. Ben Olsson put The Beavers ahead during the first half but had to come from behind in the second half with James Tweedie netting a fine equaliser. The Ryedale side clinched all three points midway through the second half with Daniel Hewitt's late free-kick, which smashed against the bar, the nearest Kartiers came to earning a point. Luke Crowther's late call off gave Liam Olsson his first senior start of the season and Andrew Woodall featured for the first time since the cup win over Haxby in October. The 2nd X1 took advantage of a free weekend to give certain players much needed game time in a friendly away at St Clements. Only Dave Hawe and Craig Campbell retained their places in the starting eleven from the league game the previous week against Copmanthorpe so Steve Harkin, Anthony Jennings, Johnny Breheney, Tom Littlewood, Tom Marshall, Josh Brigham, Tom O'Neill, Adam Tessyman and Simon Brown enjoyed a lenghty run out. Also making surprise appearances were keeper Mike Smales, injured since the league win at Wilberfoss (17/10) and new signing Dale Huntington. Huntington had an eventful afternoon, scoring one of the Kartiers goals in the 3-1 victory and also ending up between the sticks when Smales was substituted midway through the second half as a precaution. Adam Tessyman and Tom Marshall were also on target during the morale boosting victory but attention now turns to a tough away fixture this Saturday (19/12) at Reserve A league leaders York St John University. The 1st X1 host Poppleton, both games 2pm ko.
Update 08/12/09: The 2nd X1 were the only team in action last weekend (5/12) and were disappointed not to clinch all three points after a 1-1 draw against high flying Copmanthorpe. With the game switched to Selby Olympia due to the poor condition of the James Street ground, Kartiers missed a host of chances during the first half with youngster Rob Neilson also rattling the underside of the bar with a shot from distance. Liam Olsson made his first start of the season whilst Glen Littlewood and Andrew Woodall also started for the first time in over a month. Copmanthorpe took the lead only for Louis Blackwell to continue his rich goalscoring form, his equaliser being his fifth goal in only four games. This Saturday (12/12), the 2nd X1 have arranged a friendly away at Reserve C side St Clements, 2pm ko. The 1st X1 travel to Old Malton for a Premier Division fixture but are sweating on the availability of Marcin Wolski and Louis Blackwell. Ben Olsson is eligible to play before a one match suspension but Daniel Hewitt faces a late fitness test on the knee injury which caused him to miss the 4-0 cup win over York RI.
Update 30/11/09: Kartiers FC continued the defence of the York FA Senior Cup and reached this seasons semi-final after a 4-0 victory over York RI. Louis Blackwell started a game for the senior side for the first time this season and scored the opener, Matt Ward netted the second and then a brace from James Tweedie sealed the tie with all the goals coming in the first half. Liam Olsson came on as a second half substitute to make his first appearance of the season and is in line for a start with the 2nd X1 when they host Copmanthorpe this coming Saturday (5/12), 2pm ko. With the 1st X1 without a fixture, Glen Littlewood may also feature after recovering from injury whilst Louis Blackwell may also gain much needed game time. The game is due to be played on James Street but there is great concern over the fitness of the pitch after yesterdays mud wrestling competition involving a local Sunday morning 'football' side.
Update 26/11/09: Gareth Roberts and Gary Lumley look set to return to the starting line up this Saturday as the 1st X1 continue their defence of the York FA Senior Cup at home to York RI, 1.30pm ko. Daniel Hewitt misses the game due to injury and Marcin Wolski is on Selby Town duty but Andrew Woodall may feature after missing the last four games. Liam Olsson, a recent transfer from Riccall, was due to make his first appearance of the season in the 2nd X1 league fixture away at Dringhouses. However, the game appears to have been bizarrely postponed by Dringhouses due to 'County commitments of players'. Kartiers FC have in the past also lost players to County FA call up's but have always fulfilled league fixtures as the club are able to register up to fifty players. With this in mind, the club have asked the league to confirm the reasons behind this postponement and clarify which of the league rules is covered by such circumstances.
Update 24/11/09: Kartiers FC have received the sad news that former player Jason Roughley passed away this morning. Our thoughts at this time are very much with his family and friends. RIP Jason.
Update 22/11/09: The 1st X1 reached the semi final of the Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup thanks to a 3-0 win at Micklefield. Matt Ward, James Tweedie and an own goal put The Beavers first string through to the last four of the competition. Glen Littlewood featured for the first time since the previous round at Wetherby Athletic in October but Ben Olsson and Craig Campbell both picked up knocks which make them a doubt for next weekends (28/11) York FA Senior Cup Quarter Final tie at home to York RI. The 2nd X1 crashed out of the Barkston Ash FA Activ8 Cup, losing 1-4 at Bardsey. Louis Blackwell netted the consolation goal from the penalty spot. This weekend the 2nd X1 travel to Dringhouses for a Reserve Section A league game, 2pm ko.
Update 19/11/09: Last week's goal scoring hero Louis Blackwell is set to make his first start of the season in the Barkston Ash FA Activ8 Cup tie at Bardsey. Blackwell has not started a game since 2 May due to suspension and will use the game to prove his match fitness after his explosive twenty minute cameo for the 1st X1 against Hamilton Panthers. Anthony Jennings and Josh Brigham have both declared themselves fit after missing last week's victory at Haxby and are pushing for recalls. Gary Lumley and Andrew Woodall both miss the Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup tie at Micklefield but Glen Littlewood has declared himself fit after not featuring since spraining his ankle during the victory at Wetherby Athletic in October.
Update 16/11/09: Both Kartiers sides faced reigning league champions at the weekend and both sides registered victories! The 2nd X1 bounced back after recent poor results to win 3-0 at Reserve A Champions Haxby. A much changed line up from the previous week's disappointing defeat at Old Malton worked hard for the victory which came thanks to a second half Jack Healey hat-trick. The 1st X1 shared a nine goal thriller with current Premier Division Champions Hamilton Panthers. The Beavers 1st X1 threw away a 3-1 half-time lead and found themselves 3-4 down midway through the second half. Enter stage left Louis Blackwell (who has not played since the York FA Senior Cup Final victory over Old Malton) who equalised with his first touch and then scored the winner to prompt wild scenes of celebration. Marcin Wolski and James Tweedie (2) were also on target during the stunning 5-4 victory. Its district cup action for both sides this coming weekend (21/11), the 1st X1 travel to Micklefield for a Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup Quarter Final tie whilst the 2nd X1 travel to Bardsey in the Activ8 Cup, both games 1.30pm ko.
Update 13/11/09: Kartiers FC are hoping to bounce back after disappointing results last weekend. The 1st X1 welcome back manager Ian Jennings who missed the 1-1 draw with York St John University due to illness. Louis Blackwell is named in the squad for the first time this season for the visit of reigning Premier League Champions Hamilton Panthers, 2pm ko. Last seasons top scorer is now free to play after serving a lengthy suspension due to his sending off during the York FA Senior Cup Final back in May. Marcin Wolski also returns to the squad but Andrew Woodall, Grzegorz Mleczek and Glen Littlewood all miss the game whilst Gary Lumley faces a late fitness test on a leg injury. The 2nd X1 must show a positive reaction to last weekends shocking 0-10 defeat at Old Malton a performance manager Wayne Coulthard described as 'embarrassing'. Injuries to Anthony Jennings, Josh Brigham and Rob Neilson may force Coulthards hand although Craig Campbell, Daniel Fisk and Jack Healey are welcome additions whilst Wojciech Ankiewicz could make his league debut.
Update 01/11/09: The 1st X1's winning streak now stands at eleven games afer a penalty shoot out win over Poppleton in the York League Senior Cup. With no goals during the regulation ninety minutes it was down to who held their nerve during the dreaded shoot out. Crowther and Olsson both missed to put Poppleton on the brink of victory but keeper Jamie Hawksworth sent the shoot out into sudden death and then continued his heroics saving Poppleton's sixth penalty to win the tie 4-3. No such joy for the 2nd X1 who lost 1-5 at York St John University. Tom Grundy was on target for the second string but individual errors are proving costly at the moment with much work to be done with The Beavers young side. This Saturday (7/11) the 1st X1 host York St John University whilst the 2nd X1 travel to Old Malton, both games 2pm ko.
Update 30/10/09: The 2nd X1 travel to York St John University tomorrow for a Reserve League Cup tie missing skipper Dave Hawe and Daniel Fisk but the side is boosted by the return of Jack Healey, James Grundy and Josh Brigham. 1st X1 skipper Gareth Roberts misses the Senior League Cup tie at home to Poppleton whilst there are recalls for Craig Campbell and Grzegorz Mleczek. Both games 2pm ko.
Update 24/10/09: Two goals apiece from James Tweedie and Luke Crowther ensured that Kartiers FC reached the last eight of the York FA Senior Cup at the expense of the previously unbeaten Premier League leaders Haxby. The 4-2 win also makes it ten wins out of ten for The Beavers 1st X1 in all competitions. The 2nd X1 scored four goals at White Horse Church Fenton but still failed to win, going out of the York FA Junior Cup 4-1 on penalties after the scores were level 4-4 after extra time. Anthony Jennings, Johnny Breheney, Tom Littlewood and Steve Harkin were on target before the lottery of penalties which saw two of the goal scorers, Jennings and Harkin, miss from the spot. Its cup action for both sides once again next Saturday (31/10) with the 1st X1 hosting Poppleton in the York League Senior Cup whilst the 2nd X1 travel to York St John University for a York League Reserve Cup tie, both games 2pm ko.

Jack Healey returns to the 1st X1 squad for the first time since the previous round of the cup, a 4-1 home win against Tate & Lyle. The 2nd X1 are sweating on the availabilty of Craig Hewitt and Josh Brigham as they travel to White Horse Church Fenton in the York FA Junior Cup. Adam Tessyman returns to the squad after missing last week's win at Wilberfoss and Alfie Griffiths replaces broken ankle victim Michael Smales in goal. James Grundy and Craig Campbell are other notable absentees.
Update 19/10/09: Both sides were victorious on their travels at the weekend but the Kartiers camp were rocked by injuries to key players. Keeper Mike Smales broke his ankle during the 2-1 Reserve Section A win at Wilberfoss, whilst Glen Littlewood received hospital treatment for what turned out to be a badly sprained ankle during the 1st X1's 3-2 away win at Wetherby Athletic. Everyone at Kartiers FC wishes both players a speedy recovery.
Tom Marshall registered his first goal in senior football and Craig Campbell also found himself on the score sheet as the 2nd X1 clinched all three points at Wilberfoss. Special mention to Daniel Fisk who replaced the unfortunate Smales in goal. The 1st X1 came from two goals down to reach the last eight of the Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup. James Tweedie (2) and Andrew Woodall were the second half goal scorers as The Beavers beat Wetherby for the first time in four cup games. Its York FA Cup action for both teams this weekend (24/10) with the 1st X1 hosting Premier League leaders Haxby in the Senior Cup whilst the 2nd X1 face White Horse Church Fenton in the Junior version of the competition, the game switched to Church Fenton due to the 1st X1's game v Haxby. Both games 2pm ko.

The 2nd X1 travel to Wilberfoss with only Simon Hewitt a definite absentee after his transfer to Tate & Lyle FC.
Update 11/10/09: The 2nd X1 lost for the first time this season with visitors York St John University proving too strong during a 0-3 win. Tom Marshall started for the first time this season making him the sixth 16 year old to make the starting X1 for the second string this season. The 1st X1 came back from a tough game at Wilberfoss with all three points thanks to a Ben Olsson strike in injury time. Marcin Wolski was absent due to a late call up by Selby Town with youngster Johnny Breheny coming into the squad for his senior debut. Breheney almost made a dream start to 1st team colours when he forced two terrific saves from the Wilberfoss keeper in the dying seconds of the game. This Saturday (17/10) the 1st X1 travel to Wetherby for a Barkston Ash FA Cup tie whilst the 2nd X1 visit Wilberfoss for a league fixture, both games 2pm ko.
Update 08/10/09: The Beavers 1st X1 travel to Wilberfoss this Saturday (10/10) hoping to extend their winning run to eight games. Skipper Gareth Roberts may return to the starting line up due to the absence of Craig Campbell whilst James Tweedie and Andrew Woodall both return to the squad. Tom Littlewood returns to the 2nd X1 squad for the home league fixture against York St John University, 2pm ko. James Grundy may make his debut whilst sixteen year old Tom Marshall is pushing for a start after impressing as a second half substitute during last week's draw with Wigginton Grasshoppers.
Update 03/10/09: Despite a late call off from striker James Tweedie due to illness, which forced a change to the starting line up, Kartiers FC cruised to a 5-1 win over visitors Wigginton Grasshoppers. Glen Littlewood joined Marcin Wolski in attack and it was Littlewood who put The Beavers into the lead when he scrambled home after the visiting keeper had made an excellent double save from Luke Crowther and Daniel Hewitt. James Barrett pounced to increase the lead after Matt Ward had struck the post and Jon Page made it 3-0 before the interval when he cut in from the right to fire home. Minutes after the restart Marcin Wolski fired home after Craig Campbell had headed a Crowther free kick back across goal before Wigginton pulled one back when a bizarre bounce from a hopeful long ball deceived Jamie Hawksworth in the Kartiers goal. Wolski wrapped things up with his second in the final minute to put the seal on a fine days work. The 2nd X1 came back from their trip to face the Grasshoppers Reserves disappointed not to have taken all three points, settling instead for a point after a 1-1 draw. Wigginton took the lead in the first minute after an error by keeper Mike Smales but Rob Neilson scored his third goal in as many games to ensure a share of the spoils. Next Saturday (10/10) the 2nd X1 play their first home game of the campaign when they host York St Johns University whilst the 1st X1 travel to Wilberfoss, both games 2pm ko.
Update 01/10/09: Skipper Gareth Roberts returns to the 1st X1 squad for the league game at home to Wigginton Grasshoppers this Saturday (3/10) but is expected to only feature on the bench as he recovers from the injury that forced him to miss the cup win over Tate & Lyle. Jon Page also comes into contention, as does Ben Olsson who has now served his three game suspension held over from his time at Riccall FC. Grzegorz Mleczek is the only notable absentee as the 1st X1 look to keep up the pressure on the Premier League leaders. Jack Healey has been released to strengthen a 2nd X1 squad who face their first league game of the season, an away game at Wigginton Grasshoppers. Craig Hewitt makes a welcome return to action having missed the last three games whilst Tom Marshall, a summer signing who has been sidelined throughout the pre-season with a toe injury, is included for the first time. Tom Littlewood misses the game due to injury.
Update 26/09/09: Three sixteen year olds were on target for the 2nd X1 during the 3-1 victory at Huby in the York FA Junior Cup. Rob Neilson claimed his second in two games whilst Josh Brigham scored on his debut and Tom Littlewood netted his first goal in senior football. The 1st X1 went one better defeating Tate & Lyle FC 4-1 as they began their defence of the York FA Senior Cup in fine style. Glen Littlewood continued his good goalscoring start to the season with a brace, Daniel Hewitt netted from the penalty spot and Matt Ward finished off a fine move to seal victory. The Beavers face a double header in the league next Saturday (3/10) with the 2nd X1 travelling to Wigginton Grasshoppers as they start their Reserve Section A campaign whilst the Grasshoppers 1st X1 travel to Selby to face the Kartiers first string, both games 2pm ko.
Update 24/09/09: The current strength of the Kartiers FC squad will be tested this weekend with Andrew Woodall, Jon Page, Ben Olsson, James Topping and skipper Gareth Roberts all missing the York FA Senior Cup tie against Tate & Lyle FC. Craig Campbell, Jack Healey and Johnny Breheney have all been included in the squad along with recent signing Jamie Hawksworth who replaces Mike Smales in goal. Smales features in the 2nd X1 squad who travel to Huby in the York FA Junior version of the competition. Richard Taylor makes his first appearance of the season and is joined in the squad by Steve Harkin, Josh Brigham and Daniel Fisk who all missed last week's 1-0 win at Stillington. Both games 2pm ko.
Update 21/09/09: Kartiers FC reached the second round of the Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup after a 6-1 thumping of visitors Thorpe United. Marcin Wolski (2), Jon Page (2), James Tweedie and Grzegorz Mleczek were on target for the Beavers. The 2nd X1 fielded six players making their debuts for the club during the Reserve Cup tie away at Stillington and it was one of the debutants, Rob Neilson, who scored the only goal of the game as the Beavers second string marched into the next round. Cup action again awaits both teams this weekend, the 1st X1 face Tate & Lyle FC as they start the defence of the York FA Senior Cup whilst the 2nd X1 travel to Huby in the York FA Junior Cup, both games 2pm ko.
Update 18/09/09: There will be at least two changes from the side that defeated Dunnington last week when Kartiers FC entertain Thorpe United tomorrow (2.30pm ko) in the Barkston Ash FA Cup. James Topping has returned to University and Andrew Woodall misses the game due to concussion. Woodall received a blow to the temple area last Saturday and now awaits an appointment with a specialist before he is allowed to take the field again. Grzegorz Mleczek has been drafted into the squad along with Michael Smales, who replaces Gorczynski Krzysztof in goal, whilst James Tweedie is expected to take Woodall's place in attack. The 2nd X1 visit Stillington, 2pm ko, without a host of players but still travel with the full compliment. John Nurden is looking to make his debut for the club in a competitive game as do Tom Littlewood, Rob Neilson, Tom O'Neill, Wojciech Ankiewicz and Damian Steblewski. The Beavers second string have been totally re-built during the pre-season with the emphasis very much on youth but manager Wayne Coulthard wont witness the seasons opener due to the injury he sustained last week against Wheldrake, club stalwart Martin O'Neill takes charge for the day.
Update 14/09/09: League leaders Dunnington were beaten 1-0 by Kartiers FC at the weekend with The Beavers 1st X1 moving level on points at the top of the table with Dunnington and new league leaders Haxby. Glen Littlewood scored the all important goal early in the first half. Next Saturday its a break from league action with Thorpe United the visitors to James Street for a Barkston Ash FA Cup tie, 2.30pm ko. The second X1 completed their preparations for the new season with a disappointing 2-4 defeat against Wheldrake, the game played at York University. The game was marred by an injury to player manager Wayne Coulthard which held the game up for over thirty minutes with Coulthard receiving hospital treatment for a badly sprained ankle. The drama clearly affected the young Beavers second string who quickly found themselves 0-3 down but they rallied with goals from Tom Littlewood and Grzegorz Mleczek but Wheldrake held on and added a fourth to seal victory.
Squad: Griffiths, Harkin, Ankiewicz, Campbell, Neilson, Brigham, Healey, Jennings (A), Breheney, Littlewood (T), Tessyman. Subs, Steblewski, Coulthard, O'Neill, Hawe, Mleczek.

Ben Olsson and Craig Hewitt are missing from the squad that beat Old Malton last weekend.
Update 07/09/09: Kartiers FC moved up to third in the York & District Premier League table after a 4-2 victory over visitors Old Malton. Malton were one up at the interval but Kartiers hit back with goals from James Topping, James Tweedie and Andrew Woodall although Toppings header which resulted in the equalizer caused controversy as the ball appeared to have not crossed the line when both the match official and his assistant gave the goal. Malton pulled one back before Matt Ward made the points safe in injury time. There was a debut for keeper Gorczynski Krzysztof whilst Ben Olsson made a re-appearance in Kartiers colours after his last minute transfer from Riccall. This Saturday (12/9) Kartiers host Dunnington who currently top the table, 2pm ko. The 2nd X1 are in action this Thursday (10/9) when they play Selby RSSC Reserves, 6.15pm ko.
Update 04/09/09: Thorpe Veterans provided the opposition for the fourth pre-season friendly of the 2009/10 second X1 season with Kartiers Reserves running out 4-0 winners. Jack Healey opened the scoring during an even first half but second half goals from Johnny Breheney, Tom Littlewood and Josh Brigham helped seal a comfortable victory. Unfortunately, both Heworth FC and Nestle Rowntree have cancelled scheduled 2nd X1 fixtures and the club are working hard to secure further friendlies before the York League Reserve Cup tie away at Stillington on 19 September.
Update 30/08/09: The second X1 featured new signings Wojciech Ankiewicz and Damian Steblewski in the pre-season friendly at Selby Olympia FC. Tom Littlewood continues to impress and gave The Beavers the lead when he headed home an Anthony Jennings corner. Jennings was also the provider for the second when his wicked cross was diverted home by an Olympia defender to give Kartiers a 2-0 lead at the interval. Second half goals from James Barrett and Tom Littlewood, his seventh in three games, gave The Beavers a comfortable 4-1 victory.

The 2nd X1 are next in action this Saturday (29/8) when they face Selby Olympia FC, 2pm ko.
Update 27/08/09: The season appears to have finally started for The Beavers who were worthy 3-1 winners last night at Riccall. Kartiers had to battle the elements during a hectic first half, strong winds and driving rain makng life difficult for the Kartiers defence who were boosted by the return of skipper Gareth Roberts. Marcin Wolski was a late inclusion in the starting X1 after previously making himself unavailable and his link up play with Grzegorz Mleczek kept the Riccall defence on their toes during a goalless first half. Riccall were awarded a penalty early in the second period but Michael Smales, making his 1st X1 league debut, brilliantly palmed the spot kick away. Luke Crowther made it three goals in four league games when he cooly slotted home after Mleczek's clever back heel had set up the chance. James Toppings goalbound header took a deflection to make it 2-0 before Riccall were awarded yet another penalty, which this time they converted, to make it 2-1. The tireless Matt Ward clinched the points for The Beavers in injury time with a great finish. The 1st X1 have no game now until 5 September when they host Old Malton whilst tonight the 2nd X1 play Ouseburn FC. Marcin Wolski, making his first appearance of the season, and fellow Polish national Gregorz Mleczek, both scored their first goals for the senior side. Glen Littlewood and Luke Crowther completed the scoring. The games continue to come thick and fast, although quite ridiculously there are no league games this coming Saturday (29/8), with The Beavers making the short trip to Riccall. Marcin Wolski misses the game due to work as do James Barrett and Craig Campbell but there is a return for skipper Gareth Roberts. Gary Lumley also misses the game whilst Andrew Woodall is a doubt due to injury. This Thursday the 2nd X1 host Ouseburn FC, 6.30pm ko, and on Saturday travel over the river to face Selby Olympia FC as they continue their build up to the 2009/10 season.
Update 20/08/09: Two league games into the new season and alarm bells are already ringing as individual errors continue to haunt Kartiers FC as they slumped to a 3-6 defeat at Huntington Rovers last night (19/8). No Woodall, Roberts, Barrett or Blackwell hardly helped matters as a wafer thin squad attempted to gain something from what has become a bogey ground in recent years. However, the visitors took an early lead through Craig Campbell and were well worth it before an error by young keeper Calvert allowed Huntington back into the game. A Matt Ward scorcher regained the lead for the visitors before a simply shocking spell of error strewn football allowed Huntington to sweep into a 6-2 lead. Jack Healey struck a beauty from inside the centre circle for his first goal for the senior side to give the scoreline a modicum of respectability but 1st X1 manager Ian Jennings was far from happy with the way his side has started the season. 'We are all disappointed as we have played well enough in both league games and during the Temple Newsam Cup semi to have got something from the games but I cant do anything about individual errors. Its very frustrating but hopefully we have got things out of our system now and can start producing the results we all know we can'. Andrew Woodall is a doubt for Saturdays league game v Dringhouses, 2pm ko, due to a knee injury whilst James Barrett, Gareth Roberts, James Topping and the long term absentee, Louis Blackwell, all miss the game. The club are hoping to include at least one new signing against Dringhouses whilst Craig Hewitt and Richard Taylor are also in line for inclusion in the squad.
The 2nd X1 started their pre-season campaign in fine style with a 7-0 victory over Carlton based Oddies FC. Featuring a host of youngsters in a seventeen man squad, Tom Littlewood stole the show with four goals on his Kartiers debut whilst another debutant, Rob Nielson, also netted. Brogan Glavin made it a trio of sixteen year olds to find the net with his second goal of the pre-season whilst relative veteran Tom Grundy at seventeen years of age completed the rout.
Squad: Smales, Healey, Taylor, Hawe, Grundy, Breheney, Neilson, Hewitt (S), Brigham, Tessyman, Littlewood (T). Subs: Griffiths, Harkin, Fisk, O'Neill, Nurden, Glavin.
Update 18/08/09: The Beavers have made a disappointing start to the 2009/10 season, losing their opening league game to a new look Tate & Lyle FC 1-3 at the weekend and then following that up with a 0-2 defeat against Kippax FC last night in the semi-final of the Temple Newsam Cup. Another tough test awaits when they travel to Huntington this Wednesday (19/8) for a York & District Premier League game whilst the 2nd X1 start their pre-season with a friendly against newly formed Odddfellows FC from Carlton on Thursday (20/8), 6.30pm ko.
Update 11/08/09: Kartiers FC marched into the semi-finals of the Temple Newsam Cup after a 7-0 demolition of Garforth WMC. Despite an even opening quarter, the game was all over by the interval after The Beavers hit a remarkable six goals during a glittering twenty minute spell of attacking football. Gareth Roberts opened the floodgates when he headed home a Jon Page corner but then it became the Glen Littlewood show with the versatile player of the year from last season scoring an amazing four goals. Daniel Hewitt made it six from the penalty spot after his shot was handled inside the box and despite only adding one more goal during the second period, a Luke Crowther tap in, Kartiers cruised through to a semi-final tie against Kippax FC next Monday (17/8), 6.15pm ko.
Squad: Calvert, Lumley, Dickinson, Roberts, Hewitt (D), Barrett, Crowther, Ward, Page, Campbell, Littlewood. Subs: Topping, Glavin, Brigham.
Update 07/08/09: The Beavers continued the build up to the start of the Premier League season when a mixed X1 travelled the short distance over the river to tackle Selby Olympia FC last night (6/8) in a friendly. New signings Johnny Breheney and Josh Brigham featured for the first time this season and at the final whistle Kartiers fielded a team with an average age of just 20. Brogan Glavin, an own goal and a Jon Page effort gave the visitors a three goal lead before the hosts hit back to make the final score 3-2.
Squad: Griffiths, Lumley, Hawe, Roberts, O'Neill, Ward, Page, Jennings (A), Littlewood, Woodall, Glavin. Subs: Smales, Dickinson, Brigham, Breheney, Tessyman, Campbell.
Glen Littlewood and Michael Smales are both doubts for the third round Temple Newsam Cup tie against Garforth WMC on Monday, 6.15pm ko, after picking up knocks in the 3-2 win at Selby Olympia. James Topping, Daniel Hewitt, Luke Crowther and James Barrett all come into contention.
Update 04/08/09: Wayne Coulthard took charge of the 1st X1 as they started the defence of the Barkston Ash Temple Newsam Cup last night (3/8) away at West Yorkshire League side Boston Spartans. Late call off's and absentees disrupted preparations for the game but The Beavers still came away with a resounding 5-1 victory. Gareth Roberts gave the visitors the lead before The Spartans equalised to make it all square at the interval. The second half belonged to The Beavers with Luke Crowther, Matt Ward and Andrew Woodall, with a brace, sealing a second round tie next monday (10/8) against either Great Preston or Garforth WMC.
Squad: Smales, Lumley, Dickinson, Roberts, Hewitt (D), Littlewood, Crowther, Ward, Page, Woodall, Campbell. Subs: Topping, Glavin, Coulthard.
The next outing for The Beavers is this Thursday (6/8) when a mixed X1 is expected to face Selby Olympia, 6.30pm ko.
Update 31/7/09: It's been a busy pre-season for the current Barkston Ash FA Temple Newsam Cup and York FA Senior Cup holders. After winning the Senior Cup on 2 May, Kartiers FC held a very successful 5-a-side tournament in memory of KFC Legend Dave 'Willy' Williams which raised £459.73 for The Meningitis Trust. The club has now raised almost £6000 pounds for charity during recent seasons.
Training started at the end of June and almost 40 players have attended the sessions so far with the club pleased to announce a clutch of new signings. Brogan Glavin, Tom O'Neill, Tom Littlewood, Michael Smales, John Nurden, Alfie Griffiths, and Craig Dickinson have all put pen to paper whilst Simon Hewitt has returned to the club after a year out of the game. Luke Crowther has also committed himsef to the club after playing in the East Riding County League last season whilst the majority of last seasons 1st X1 squad have also pledged their loyalty to The Beavers. 1st X1 manager Ian Jennings expects more signings during the next couple of weeks, 'We made a list of who we wanted and have slowly but surely been working our way through it, one or two players have moved on but I prefer to look forward and whilst thanking those players for helping Kartiers to achieve what we have during recent seasons, I am more interested in what the current squad is doing and more importantly, potentially going to do'. Neil Earl, injured since the second game of last season, has returned to light training but is not expected to feature until the new year.
Wayne Coulthard has been appointed 2nd X1 manager after the resignation of Richard Singh. Coulthard starts his second spell as reserve team manager with the task of developing the exciting youngsters that have recently registered with The Beavers.
