Kappa Zeta At Large

Quarterly message from the President

I am giddy with the rare glimpse of sunshine as I write this…but the TOO LIVE NURSE musical comedy with the dance troupe of nurses from upstate NY on June 21 certainly contributed to my giddiness. It was a hit. The group only performs 3 shows a year right now and we were lucky enough to get this nationally known group here for their first ME appearance. Their parody of colonoscopies and foley catheter insertions will be played at the annual meeting for a little levity!

Speaking of our Annual Meeting, the plan is for members (and those who may have lapsed—because we want you to re-join) to attend Saint Joseph’s College for an optional catered buffet dinner with Vegetable Lasagna and Chicken Oscar entrees will be available for $16.00 (payable in advance to Kelly Lancaster, Treasurer) in the Alumni Center, Alumni Lounge at 5 PM.

This will be followed by the business meeting, where we will announce the winners of the various writing awards and scholarships and where we will hold the election of officers. We are looking for a VP from USM, a community counselor, and we have an opening for a “leadership intern”. This usually goes to a graduate student or to a new graduate to consider and includes a paid trip to the fall biennial convention.

At 7 PM, Sister Callista Roy will deliver her free simulcast lecture “Call to Heal: Finding meaning and purpose in the health care vocation” at SJC Alfond Hall’s Viola Auditorium.  At 8 PM Questions/Discussion, followed by an open bar reception in the second floor lobby area.

August 6 from 4:30-7 PM we are planning a picnic potluck on Portland’s Back Bay and hope to see new and veteran members and discuss community involvement. We will have the free diabetes and hypertension statewide screening van present to have members be able to book the van at their worksites, or to volunteer to staff the van at other sites.
