This degree marks the beginning of the pledge period. The goals of this first degree are as follows: To give each pledge the opportunity to become an active member by acquainting with her purposes, responsibilities, and activities of the Kappa Phi club; To provide an opportunity for the development of leadership and fellowship between the pledges and actives; To develop an understanding of, and dedication to, the work of the Church and community through study and service. The Degree of the Light may be conferred upon sponsors, honorary members, and those who have completed the membership requirements. The Degree of the Rose may be conferred upon a member in good standing leaving an active chapter upon completion of her prescribed course of study, or upon recommendation of the chapter sponsor. Legion of Light is a recognition bestowed upon Kappa Phi alumnae who are in a full-time, church related vocation, or full time ministry of the laity.
