DEVELOPMENT OF SEAWEED CULTIVATION WITH LONG LINE SYSTEM
BACKGROUND
Islands of Seram, Kelang, Manipa, Buano and some isles in the territory of
East Seram Regency have the wide enough coastal area with extremely
appropriate marine water quality for seaweed culture. It is depicted of data
that seaweed has naturally grown, been known and used by public as the
traditional food. There are some kinds growing in the waters of this coastal
area, one of them known and having high economic value is Seaweed with the
type of Kotoni. Since the sea is pure and having potential stream tends to
continually move, then its production is very good. As it is not only the
availability of food substance brought into the flow but also water exchange
in the area of seaweed population lasting smoothly thereby avoiding from the
attack of leucorrhoea illness or SS.
Waters quality description as stated above showed that coastal area of Seram
islands are potential to develop for the seaweed culture business. Till now,
such commodity has been endeavored by people in the region of Western and
Eastern Seram in the scale and giving the proper results. Research findings
of LIPI Ambon found that seaweed growing naturally in Eastern Seram had high
karagenan contents. Lack of capital and the absence of market becomes the
cause of such commodity development cannot be largely continued by
community. As such, in order to develop seaweed culture in KAPET Seram is
much needed by investor that can support capital and prepare market.
PURPOSE
To use coastal water potential is neglected to date.
To encourage the growth of seaweed culture is traditionally in the public
to the larger and more advanced direction.
To improve social income through main business diversification of seaweed.
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
It is made with the following phases: (1) socialization to the public, (2)
business training of culture and post-harvest of seaweed, (3) warehouse and
office development, and (4) implementation of seaweed culture activities.
Social targets involved in this program are 300 persons.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Growth and development of seaweed culture made by people with the source
of fund coming from investors, accordingly marketing made to the investors.
Availability of mutual profitable cooperation between investor and
community in developing seaweed culture.
EXPECTED IMPACT / PROFIT:
Development of public prosperity level as a result of additional income
coming from seaweed culture business.
The new job opportunity for public in KAPET Seram.
Availability of improvement in PAD resulted from the increase of goods
volume through handling activities.
ESTIMATION OF PROJECT COSTS: Rp.2,51 M
PROJECT FEASIBILITY:
Based on the culture development in NTT and Sulawesi Tenggara shows the
profitable results.
FINANCING ARRANGEMENT: Fully Private Sector Investment.
