There is speculation as to what the Kogai is used for, however the general consensus is that it was used to fix the Samurai's hair and an ear cleaner. Their use was for formal court wear and therefore are a little rarer than other sword fittings. Very often they were part of a set matching the Kozuka.

Kogai done in silver and copper. Mino school. Size 21.4◊1.2cm Signed lightly in back mitsunaku saku. Copper looks to be wearing away, canít tell, seems to be some black metal underneath. Silver looks right. The silver and copper are perfectly transitioned from the silver on top until the copper on the bottom
