Update 12/04/06: I am now down to six rabbits, all Miniature Lops (five Smokes and one Sable), and I am no longer showing or breeding rabbits. I will still have the odd baby available, so this beautiful colour is kept alive and can be passed onto others. The hobby has given me immense enjoyment over the past twenty four years and I have made some wonderful friends who I will always keep in contact with, but feel it's now my time to bow out. Kalian Stud was formed in January 2001 and is a partnership between Katharine Ralph and Linda Flynn.
We breed and exhibit Miniature Lops and the occasional Cashmere and Miniature Cashmere Lop.
Although we live at different ends of the U.K. (Katharine near Southampton and Linda in Wakefield), we have a love of rabbits and share a small stud of Lops, consisting of about twenty rabbits.
We used to keep the Cashmeres in much greater numbers, but at the start of 2005 we both decided to part with the majority of our Cashmere Lop stud due to work and family commitments. At this stage we had been breeding and exhibiting Cashmere Lops both as Kalian Stud and before we joined forces, in sole names, for sixteen years, consistently winning Best in Shows and Best Lop Awards. One of our best achievements was winning Best of Breed and Best Lop at the Bradford 2005 show with a beautiful Red Eyed White buck, Bagpuss (shown in joint names of Ruskin & Kalian) . Bagpuss has now gone to live with our friend Lynn Brandreth, along with the majority of our other Cashmere Lops. We have retained our Champion White Buck, Kalian's Cracker and have a young baby buck sired by Bagpuss who we hope to be showing shortly.
Our small stud of Miniature Lops are bred in Smoke Pearl and Sable (both colours in Marten and Siamese), along with the occasional Red Eyed White. Huge thanks must go to Mary and Brian Philpotts (Foxtwist Stud) who gave us the opportunity to continue their hard work with such a fantastic stud of quality Miniature Lops in these beautiful but rarer colours.
