The JZR Vehicle:

The JZR is a replica kit of a neo-classic British sporting three wheeler by Morgan (pictured above).  The kit has steel construction for the integrated, square tube chassis and galvanized lower body sheet metal.  The upper body is composed of fiberglass.  The JZR comes in two body styles: the “barrel back” which allows for a spare tire to be affixed to the rear of the vehicle; and the “beetle back”, a sporty rear styling with no spare tire.

The kit’s front suspension is based on the spindles and disc brake assemblies of the Chevy Chevette (83-87 recommended); utilizing tubular A arms and coil over shocks.  The kit also uses a Chevette manual rack and pinion steering unit as well.

The rear suspension is based on the donor Moto Guzzi or Honda motorcycle, utilizing its twin coil over shocks, brakes, and transfer case.

The JZR kit is manufactured in the United Kingdom by John Ziemba Restorations; hence the firm's name: JZR.  The JZR company contact information is as follows:

Kit History:

Established in the late 1980's the JZR was an idea conceived by John Ziemba Restorations (JZR), then located in Lancashire in the UK .  Having an avid interest in the Morgan 3-wheeler, John created a Morgan replica kit. John is the mental father of the JZR of tricycles and the technical designer of the JZR of chassis. Approximately 320 JZR's were produced up until 1998 when JZR temporarily ceased production due to legal matters.  Bill Todd has stated that during this time John still produced kits for export though; and only sales to the UK were halted in this time frame.

In 2000 John, with the legal matters behind him returned to building the JZR, from a new location, Darwen into North England .  Please note that at the time of this writing, the JZR is available in Kit only to the US from John.

The car's rear wheel is powered by various engines including the Honda CX, Moto Guzzi, Honda Pan European and can also be used with an Harley Davidson engine.

Engine performances can range from 50 to as much as 110 HP.

The vehicle has a stable generously dimensioned lattice tubing framework from square tubes. The drive takes place by means of long cardan shaft and motorcycle rocker on the rear wheel. The transmission is taken over from the motorcycle or modified if necessary with reverse gear

The JZR has a steel body and chassis, with fiberglass bonnet and rear section. As with most kit based vehicles each JZR can be made to conform to its owner's taste with such things as machined alloy or walnut dashboard and leather trim.

Extras for JZR Kit:

The following are accessory items offered by JZR:

Special Note:  In an email sent to me by Bill Todd, the US importer, on 06/07/2004, he stated that JZR will offer a second fuel tank as an option.  For more information contact JZR or Bill Todd.

Terms of Sale :

Kit payment is under the following terms:

·         1/3 of the total kit and extras cost is due upon placement of the initial order.

·         the next 1/3 will be due upon JZR starting manufacture of the kit.

·         the final 1/3 will be due prior to shipment of the finished kit from the UK .

Notes:

o        all prices FOB from Wichita Falls TX . (estimated at $100 to $300 for an Ohio delivery)

o        orders usually take 12 to 16 weeks for delivery.

Estimate of Delivery:

I was given a general estimate of three months delivery.  However, that is an estimate of how long it take the JZR kit to be manufactured.  This estimate does not factor existing units in manufacture or backlogged.  My kit took approximately 6 months from initial purchase to kit delivery.

Estimate of Build time:

After all donor parts are cleaned/rebuilt, painted, and all other parts are located, holes are drilled in the chassis and body for mounting such items as pedal assemblies, steering column, dash, fuel tank, lights, windshield, mirrors, fuel pump, and battery.  Final assembly, after chassis and body parts are painted, should be approximately 140 hours.
