Salomon Wheels & Bearings

If you haven't heard of Salomon before they are a quality supplier for wheels and boots but the frames are absolute rubbish so don't buy (weak, short-lasting i know my st80's came with sal frames and after my royales had just started feeling right the frame was actually finished, grinded down at an angle to the soul plate). Anyway these wheels are nice and soft (a 88a) they are grippy and absorb alot of shocks and vibrations. I am reviewing these and informing you of them because at Rollersnakes they have a killer offer on them, £10 for four wheels and with Abec 3 bearings (offer may be finished by now). They come with 8mm axles which can be taken out (with great difficulty) to put in smaller ones like 6mm for  the old 50/fifty frames not the new balance ones. The bearings are fine not brilliant but better than OK, they roll well but if they get too wet they will cease to roll. So keep 'em dry and they will last you for a few months. But they do wear out quicker than harder wheels.

To find 'em go to Rollersnakes (use the links page on this site) and click on the inventory blowout, then inline skates and you will see them in the bottom right corner of the grid.

Black Xsjado Mook Frames

In the review about the salomon wheels (above) i said that salomon make rubbish frames well i have made ONE exception which is their Xsjado mook frame (if you didn't know xsjado is a company owned by salomon). Anyway these frames are a revolution, really they are. I mean they still have a few faults like all products but they also have alot of positive points to back them up. Firstly these frames do have a huge grinding capacity which opens new doors to your skating and will make currently ungrindable objects grindable. I mean i went out on them and my usual skating terrain seemed fresh and almost new. These frames can take up to a 60mm wheel. I reckon the bigger wheel the better for these particular frames as the frame already covers up a 1/3 of each wheel so for me having a 56mm wheel if i ride over a little bump the frame will scrape, so i have to a bit more cautious than usual. I mean it isn't a huge problem but having the biggest wheel possible on these frames would be easier. And wouldn't make grinding any harder like on standard frames. Now lets talk about the actual grinding as xsjado say these frames do create less friction on your soul grinds and even make sweatstance grinds easier. Royales are made a bit easier with the pre-grooved side. Also these frames make frontsides, backsides and other grinds where both feet are grinding on the centre of the frame easier. As the middle is thinner it creates a single-pointed balance. Another amazing point is that these frames are also perfect for cess slides as the sides are angled so perfect that a mook frame not attached to a boot can stand by itself in a cess slide position. One main worry i have which may not be true is that they may not be very strong. But according to xsjado the cross columns create maximum strength. They even say "The mook is the quickest, most versatile, expansive and strongest frame, no other frame compares". I agree with all of that except it being the strongest frame i don't know for a fact they aren't strong, it is just that the two middle wheels are missing and i would of thought that this would create an extremely weak frame. So really it is just i don't trust them enough to risk using them on big gaps. But hopefully i will be able to report back on the strength (good news hopefully) soon when i have used them on bigger gaps or steps. So far i have only used them on a 5 set and to tell you the truth they felt pretty strong and they didn't crack at all. I will report back on the strength after i have risked using them on a bigger set. Anyway apart from my worry about the strength these frames are amazing they make your grinds faster, cess slides easier and look pretty sleek on your set-up.
