For his nearly all his songs, he uses a Celtic tuning invented by Davey Graham - DADGAD. Instead of the standard tuning EADGBE, the strings are tuned to DADGAD, and gives the guitar a much more resonating and beautiful sound. He uses a variety of techniques in his playing including the rasgueado (Spainish strumming, as used in Phunkdified, Seville), slap and pop (usually a bass technique, used in Phunkdified), tapping (hammering and pulling off the strings very fast - originally thought up by Eddie Van Halen. Justin takes the technique a step further by incorporating more use of the fingers on the right hand, whilst playing bass notes with his left, and also using two fingers on his right hand to slide up harmonised notes).
