Frequently Asked Questions |
We get a lot of
enquiries about various things Justin related. If you have a question,
check here first and if you can't find what you're looking for you can
drop us an email - we can't guarantee you'll get answers though!
When is Justin's debut album with his band being released?
At the time of writing, the album is scheduled to drop around August 2006. Check the official site for the latest updates
How can I get hold of old Justin albums?
The only available Justin King solo album is 'Le Bleu', and that is only available from www.justinkingmusic.com.
'Justin King' and 'Opening' are out of print and your best bet of
finding them is on Ebay, but they are rarely listed. Some songs are
floating around on the internet, but Opening songs are very hard to
come by.
How do I get to play guitar as good as Justin?
Lots of practice! For his nearly all his songs, he uses a Celtic
tuning invented by Davey Graham - DADGAD. Instead of the standard
tuning EADGBE, the strings are tuned to DADGAD, and gives the guitar a
much more resonating and beautiful sound. He uses a variety of
techniques in his playing including the rasgueado (Spainish strumming,
as used in Phunkdified, Seville), slap and pop (usually a bass
technique, used in Phunkdified), tapping (hammering and pulling off the
strings very fast - originally thought up by Eddie Van Halen. Justin
takes the technique a step further by incorporating more use of the
fingers on the right hand, whilst playing bass notes with his left, and
also using two fingers on his right hand to slide up harmonised notes).
What is Blackberry Hill Studios?
Blackberry Hill Studios
is Justin's own recording studio, situated in his hometown of Eugene,
Oregon. It boasts state of the art equipment and Justin recorded and
produced most of his band's demo recordings and parts of his upcoming
band album there. The studio is also available for bookings - check out
www.blackberryhillstudios.com.
I heard Justin was working on an instrumental album with Carlos Vamos and Michael Manring. When is this coming out?
The album has been
completed and recorded, however due to label complications a release
date is uncertain, we will update this as soon as we get any news!
Who is the drummer in the 'Change' video?
That
is the band's previous drummer, James West. He has worked with Justin
on 'Le Bleu' and the new instrumental project, but decided playing with
the band wasn't for him. The band have now recruited Nadir Jeejanvee
from Los Angeles to replace him.
Is Nadir really studying a physics masters degree?
Who knows...
