Junior Service League of Hobbs, Inc. ("JSL") was founded in 1956 as a service organization for women. Since its inception 50 years ago JSL has been comprised of dedicated, hard working women. These women seek to benifit the community by providing volunteer service and financial support to a number of projects through various fundraising efforts each year.

Our Projects:

Foster Care Closet - We stock a closet at the Children Youth and Families Department with clothes, shoes, toiletries, diapers, and other necessities for the foster children taken into custody in Lea County. Often these children leave their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs and this closet allows the foster child some emergency supplies to get through the first few days of being placed in a new home. We also provide a Christmas Party each year for all the foster families and children in Lea County.

Toy Workshop - We purchase, wrap, and deliver toys to approximately 700 underprivileged children every year. We attempt to select children that would not otherwise be receiving any gifts for Christmas.

Outreach - At Christmas, we adopt three to five families who are in great need. We then attempt to meet as many of their day to day needs as possible (including utility payments, blankets, heaters, canned goods, household supplies, etc.) as well as providing Christmas gifts for the children of the families. We have partnered with Stone Elementary and St. Helena's Parochial School to conduct drives for canned goods and household supplies the last several years.

Children with Critical Needs - We have provided car seats and utility payments so that newborn infants could leave the hospital in a safe fashion and go to a heated home.

Mentoring -  Members spend time each week having lunch with Children in our local elementary schools and acting as mentor and friend to those students. The schools select children that are in need of adult attention to do homework, to study, or simply to talk.

Palmer Drug Abuse Program: Members work with PDAP leaders to present fun puppet shows, explaining the dangers of drugs and alcohol to area elementary schools and Head Start programs.

Meals on Wheels - Members deliver hot meals one day a week to local senior citizens.

Library - Members deliver books each week from the public Library to people living in Hobbs who are unable to travel to the Library.
