JUNGALBOOK, a TheatreUNCA Production

    H
ello, and welcome to UNC-Asheville's production website for Edward Mast's Jungalbook. Set in tropical India, the play is an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's world-famous Jungle Books. Though related to the Disney film of a similar title, the play is a more loyal retelling of the story found in Kipling's books; illustrating the story of Mowgli, the famous boy discovered and raised by a wolf pack, and his struggle against the Bengal tiger Sherakhan.

Beginning in August, the drama department at the campus of the University of North Carolina at Asheville entered production for Jungalbook. Wanting to reach greater audiences in Asheville area schools, we have moved the production from our usual space at the University's Carol Belk Theatre to Asheville's premiere professional stage, the Diana Wortham Theatre. Under the direction of Danelle Smith, resident school teacher and artistic organizer, and the assistant direction of UNCA student Mark Shell, Jungalbook will be opening mid-October with one open-to-the-public performance at 7:00pm, October 18th.

Tickets for the public show can be purchased from the Diana Wortham box office, reachable at (828) 257-4530, or their website
here.
For those from Asheville area schools seeking ticket information, or other questions not answered here, feel free to contact the UNC-Asheville Drama Department at (828) 251-6610. You can also reach our university website by clicking here.

For theatre-goers interested in finding more information on the actors of the play, or even biographical and geographical information regarding Kipling and his experiences in India, feel free to peruse the links below.
