Hello! You found my page. (Either that, or I made you look at it.) You probably know that I am Lauren...and you probably know that I was born in New Jersey on April 6, 1986. If you've known me for a while, you'd know I've always loved art and even as a kid I had an "artistic streak" (my frustrated teachers often called it "doodling [on assignments, homework, etc.]" when sending my progress reports home). I took that with me, through elementary and middle school, where I frequently submitted works to the art shows which the schools facilitated. In high school, I joined the Art Club. When I came to college, I didn't take any art classes, but I kept up with my hobby at home. The art you'll find on the next few pages was all done by me. Most of it is recent (after 2004), although there are a few pieces I kept from high school. I'm currently working on hunting down some of my older works, from high school and earlier. As I find them, they will be included in this portfolio, so keep checking back!
Everything you'll see here is included in this portfolio because it means something to me. For every piece you see, there are 2 or 3 doodles, sketches, or other pieces of art that I wasn't satisfied with. My favorite media for art are chalk pastel and pencil (because of its versatility). My interest in pastel was inspired by my mom, who for a number of years worked as a portrait artist, using pastels as her main medium. Many times I'd wander into her studio and stand awestruck at the work-in-progress resting on her easel. Other times, I'd sit and watch her turn a blank canvas into an amazing recreation of a (usually) familiar and much-loved face. In high school, I finally got a set of my own pastels and started learning how to use them, putting to work the techniques I'd seen my mom use in her work.
Art isn't my only interest. I also love kids, writing, photography, philosophy, being silly, my husband, and the outdoors.
