JEDDAH – The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has expressed deep anxiety over the situation in the Philippines, specifically about what is happening in Jolo, in Muslim Mindanao, in the south of the country, enjoys a measure of internal self-government.
He expressed the hope that the incidents have been taking place in the last few days would not be used as pretext for jeopardizing the lives of the people in the region or making their lives worse. Prof. Ihsanogluhas expressed to the Philippine Government and the other party not to escalate the situation any further, and to rely on dialogue as the only way for bringing peace and stability in Southern Philippines.
The OIC secretary general has expressed the hope that the positive results of the Sharm-al-Sheikh Summit would put an end to violence and reestablish peace in the Middle East.
