My weight loss journey...

On April 22, 2002, I found out about Weight Watchers' on-line program.  I thought, "Maybe that would work for me - no meetings!"  At the time, I was working full time plus teaching music to adults with disabilities 3 nights a week, PLUS singing in a few bands.  My week days were crazy, and spending one more evening a week at a meeting was not possible.  But I knew I needed a plan, and I knew I needed to lose weight.  So, I logged on to www.weightwatchers.com and joined.  That was the first day of my new life!

My starting weight was 230 pounds.  Ouch.  My lowest weight, in May of 2004, was 148 pounds - I lost 82 pounds.  I've gained back15 pounds over the last 2 years - ouch again - but am on track to lose it and hit my goal.  Over the next few weeks, I hope to add photos, tips and most importantly, my weight loss journal - I think it's important to share my journey for myself and for anyone interested in transforming their lives.  Because if I can do it, anyone can!

Here are a few photos:

My high school friend Allison and I before her wedding in August 2001.  Wow, I've got some arms for raising that beer!  This was probably my highest weight - 230 pounds or so.  Yikes!  I'm on the left.  Note the crease down the middle of the photo - I carry this around with me to prove to people that I used to be fat!

My high school best friend Shari and I in July, 2002 - 3 months on Weight Watchers, down about 25 pounds...I'm on the right.

Dancing in November 2002...I loved that shirt, but it went to the Goodwill w/ my other 'fat' clothes

My first trip to the beach at an almost-normal weight in 2003.  Not quite bikini material, but close!

My college best friend Holly and I in May, 2004.  This was my lowest weight of 148...I'm on the left.

Shari and I again in January 2006 - Super Bowl Weekend.  I'm back up to about 164 pounds - I'm on the right.  :0(

I guess the ups and downs of weight loss are to be expected.  I get down on myself for gaining back some weight, and it's hard to get motivated to do the program. Then I look at the photo from my wedding day and think, "Wow, that doesn't even look like me!"  I try to remember that I've kept off  almost 80 pounds for over four years.  I am healthier, happier, and have a very different lifestyle.  I've done things that I never dreamed of - buying and riding a bike on a regular basis, hiking, kayaking, wall climbing, walking for fun...and most importantly, discovering that I like to be active!

This journey will never end, and that's ok.
