The Broadway went into this game, after travelling the long trip up the M1 to little Micklefield, facing a different side to the one who came down to Cross Flatts only a few weeks ago. Taylor started with a familiar looking side but the player manager started at centre half replacing the departed Lister. Speight made his first start in the Broadway goal. The Broadway started sluggishly and were soon behind. A quick free kick from Micklefield saw them play a ball through and a poor offside trap allowed the striker to poke the ball past Speight. There were not many more chances in the first period, A volley into the side netting by Hastings after a one two with Dyson and a header over the bar from G Taylor after a good corner from Wade were the best the visitors had to offer. Half time Micklefield 1 – 0 Broadway The Broadway started the better in the second period and went very close to an equaliser as Dyson volleyed against the bar from the edge of the area and Nunns couldn’t covert the follow up. Unfortunately the momentum the Broadway were gaining was disrupted when midfield playmaker Jamie Marshall was forced to go off with a swollen shin and was replaced by Bertucci. Micklefield were trying to slow the game, going down injured after every fifty-fifty challenge and the referee was giving the home side the advantage. Substitute Bertucci was close to connecting with a header at the far post for the Broadway and a volley on the turn from Hastings went just wide. The home side added a second from a dubious free kick the central midfielder was allowed to head home unmarked. There was still time for Micklefield to hit the upright and the Broadway had a penalty claim turned down from the referee when it seemed like Nunns was pulled down in the box. A largely disappointing performance from the Broadway, however Lawton worked tirelessly up and down from right back and deserved his MOM award.
