12/11/06 Broadway FC 3 - 1 Hyde Park Power
Hazelgrave 2
Lawton

The Broadway FC took there place in the last 8 of the league cup after a hard fought win against Hyde Park who have had a good start to the season.

Dyson, Bertucci and Merifield were all missing for the Broadway so Barker made only his third start of the season.

After a minutes silence for Armistice Sunday the Broadway started off quite well pushing Hyde back up the hill with ageing centre backs Taylor and Wade winning lots of ball.

The Broadway should have had a lead midway through the first half after good work from Hastings and Hazelgrave sent Priestley through to score but the ref pulled the game back for a foul on Hastings even though Broadway had the advantage.

Hyde Park started to push forward and took the lead after their striker received the ball and his shot took a nasty deflection off Taylor and beat Speight at his near post.

The Broadway got back into the game just before half time when Nunns won a throw on the right and Lawton launched it into the box. Hazelgrave turned and shot, and like the Hyde goal, the ball took a deflection to wrong foot the keeper into the bottom corner.

Half Time. Broadway 1 – 1 Hyde Park

The Broadway dominated for much of the second half and Hazelgrave put them 2-1 up after an excellent ball from Taylor. The strikers shot beat the keeper after taking a lucky bobble at the near post.

The Broadway were defending well with Barker having a good game at left back and Marshall again pulling the strings in midfield.

The game was made safe when Hastings played a through ball that Hazelgrave dummied and Lawton slid home his first goal for the Broadway.

Nunns was booked by the referee for dissent and Marshall followed for the same thing.

Hastings missed a decent chance as Lawton played the ball across but after turning the defender he put his volley shot straight at the keeper.

The Broadway hung on fairly easily and Hazelgrave picked up his first MOM of the season he had a bit of luck with his brace but worked tirelessly up front.

Nunns picked up TOTW for completely air kicking a ball down the right flank for his second award of the season. Sykes was lucky to get away with passing to Hyde players all day.
