Fanfiction
His Lordship Chaos- If you like epic and dark sci-fi, this is who you go for. I enjoy Chaos' work because they're well thought out and have this edgy feel to them. They can be long but they're worth it. My favorite is Angel Electric.
Kihin Ranno- Very poignant for how small of pieces she sometimes writes. I read her works because I know I'm either going to laugh, cry, or be angry, or all three, everytime. She's also working her way up to having a story for every day of the year. ^^; So at least go read Last Embrace immediately.
Moonsparkle- For the fact I love her only story I know of, and will no doubt love all the other stories she's bound to write. My Lady Queen is a SM twist on King Arthur legend, and is very well done for an AU.
Syrinx- I love The Mousetrap for its working in of almost every SM character, mystery and suspense, and..it's set in England. ;) It's a good read on a rainy day.
Starsea- A lot of her work captures real emotions and it's easy to get caught up in everything. She can also simply just tell a good story and that's what you need sometimes.
Fiction
George R.R. Martin- I've read the a Song of Fire and Ice series. His writing isn't exactly prolific or one of a kind, but it makes fantasy real and gritty. There's no struggle between righteous good and epic evil-- just real people living in a world with direwolves, giants and dragons.
Edgar Allen Poe- For my dark and depressing side. His haunting style captures my interests and is exciting to read...and sometimes disturbing.
Chris Paolini- I'll be the first to admit Eragon and Eldest haven't revolutionized the genre. But the Inheritance Trilogy so far has been an interesting take on an old plot structure. Also, just the author's whole story of how he got where he is, is great. He's living my dream, so I'm just interested in what he does. And, I like dragons.
