Corn snake Care Guide

Corn snakes are a medium sized snake that grow to about 3 to 5 foot long.

The Vivarium

A 1 ft x 2ft x 1ft vivarium should be big enough to house one large corn snake, but the more snakes you want to keep in the same vivarium the bigger it has to be. With my cornsnakes i use Heat matt isntead of bulb, as they are cheaper and i find they are better for the snake. If you are going to use a bulb, it should be about 60 Watts, and the snake must not be able to touch it, otherwise it will burn itself very badly, sometimes it could even cause death. The snakes should be kept at a temperature around 75 - 85 Fahrenheit.

Provide the snake with a log, or large stone to hide under, it will absorb the heat and provide a nice place for the snake to sit during its active hours. Also make sure there are alot of dark hiding areas, plants will do nicely to create them.

The snakes like to have areas that they can climb in the cage

Make sure the snake has a fresh supply of water to drink from, some snakes poo in their bowl, so change it daily.

Feeding

The best thing to feed corn snaks is frozen mice, that have been defrosted. Live mice can hurt the snake alot.

When the snakes are small (hatchlings) feed them about 1 pinky every 6 days. If your snake is still hungry feed it two. A pinky is a one day old mouse.

When they grow bigger, and you can not see a lump in the snake when it has eaten. feed them once a week only, But the next size of mice.

Corn snakes will not eat themselves to death.

I have owned corn snakes for the past 5 years, any questions email me jozefwozniak@ymail.com
