Yoga of consciousness, inspired by Swami Kripalvananda (Babuji). Kripalu is a meditative approach, which is slow moving. As we explore how to hold the postures for longer periods of time, the art of mindfulness is practiced. With conscious pranayama and proper body alignment in the asana, our awareness is guided inward.
|
Joy of Yoga Studio offer a warm, safe environment where the invitation to explore the benefits of Kripalu yoga may be honored with compassionate guidance.
|
At the Joy of Yoga Studio, our practice is inspired from Tibetan Buddhism, with the intention to create a safe environment where the individual journey to self-realization can begin.

Shiatsu is a form of bodywork that originated in Japan at the turn of the twentieth century, stemming from Chinese massage called Anma united with familiar Western techniques of physical manipulation. Shiatsu is a yogic approach to healing that draws extensively upon the principles of Traditional Oriental Medicine (T.O.M.); thus giving the practitioner a wide system of healing techniques through touch. The benefits are many. Heightening your sense of well-being, leaving you feeling open and free from tension, it can help maintain balance of body/mind health at your optimal peak. |
The Joy of Yoga Studio offers workshops in various topics, providing a space where we can all explore our humaness in our ever changing lives. Some up coming topics are: retreat and renewal series for body, mind and soul; couples workshop; yoga and shiatsu massage for pregnancy and childbirth; partner yoga; AM yoga and meditation.

Kelly McGrath, owner and operator of the Joy of Yoga Studio, is an experienced and certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor and Shiatsu Massage Practitioner. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Kelly began practicing yoga as a young girl in the 1970's. Her passion for yoga led her to the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health (Lenox, Mass, U.S.A.) where she received her training and certification. A devout practitioner and teacher, Kelly continues to develop her knowledge and skill through membership in the Kripalu Yoga Teachers’ Association, frequent participation in retreats and conferences with leading instructors, such as Rodney Yee and Erich Schiffmann, and regular meditation practice at the Montreal Shambhala Center.

| Kelly began teaching yoga at the Therapeutic Approach Yoga Studio in Nova Scotia where she worked in collaboration with the Psychiatric Unit of the Halifax Children’s Hospital to help ground children and teens in reality. Upon relocating to Montreal Kelly established the Joy of Yoga Studio where individuals - from young adults to senior citizens - gather to practice yoga and meditation. Kelly also provides group and corporate instruction, and staffs of the Montreal General, Children’s and Royal Victoria hospitals have been among her clients. |
| Complementing Kelly’s yoga practice is her training and experience in Shiatsu Massage: a yogic approach to healing that draws extensively upon the principles of Traditional Oriental Medicine (T.O.M.). Kelly completed her Shiatsu training at the Dragon and Phoenix School of Shiatsu (Montreal, Quebec) and is available for private and partner consultations and appointments.
Kelly’s approach to yoga, meditation and Shiatsu focuses on connecting body, mind and spirit. With skill and compassion she helps clients achieve a harmonious balance and a return to wholeness. Kelly looks forward to sharing her skills and experience and invites you to visit the Yoga, Meditation, Shiatsu and Workshops pages for more information.
