Susan Elaine Jenkins Author "Scandalon"   On Joy Comes Radio Nov. 13

Susan Elaine Jenkins

By Janice Frame
Contributing Writer

Susan Elaine Jenkins grew up a preacher’s kid in California. The oldest of three children, her family consisted of preachers and teachers which gave her the desire to teach.

Ms. Jenkins attended Point Loma Nazarene University in California. After college she taught for nineteen years in California schools both public and private. She began to travel on a Study Quest in 1980 to various countries and that led her to China. This is where she found her love for the country and it’s people.

She has since moved to Asia where she teaches performing arts, at International Schools of Performing Arts. She has lived in China for eleven years, and is currently teaching her twelfth year in a school in China near Shanghai. She recently spent a year back in America teaching and writing at a Ski Resort Community of Park City. While at this resort community she taught music at a Mountain School. Besides teaching and writing, Susan enjoys traveling, reading, and her ongoing Mandarin studies. Also keeping in touch with her family and friends.

Her first book Scandalon tells of her life and the many battles she faced and overcame. Intertwined it also tells of her life in China and the many fascinating people she met there and grew to love. This book invites us into her life and how God has done a mighty work in her and the country of China.

Dr. Anita McLaughlin states that “Scandalon is rich in its account of pain and triumph, confusion and clarity. This truthful and honest depiction of humanness is beautifully illustrated in an enthralling story that touches the very depth of the heart.”

Susan Jenkins describes her life by saying "When the splendid becomes splintered and the glorious becomes gauntleted, there will still be a garden filled with astonishing brilliance hidden somewhere." She further stated that she thinks the idea of feeling at home in China has to do with the fact that she began feeling "at home" with God, and that, for her, involved a great spiritual healing, coming back to a point of rest within God's heart.

I know her story has touched the lives of many people and she will be blessed for sharing her innermost heart with the world!

Scandalon

Susan Elaine Jenkins author of Scandalon will be our guest on Joy Comes Radio November 13, 2009 (4:30pm Eastern). Don't miss this interview as Dr. Anita get's the scoop...

Running from scandal -- in her family, church and community life -- Susan moves from California to China. At first, the adventure of experiencing an exotic culture brings the escape she craves. Gradually, as the layers of mystery and reserve fall away, she gets to know her new Chinese friends on deeper levels. At the same time the self-protective layers around her own heart peel back painfully, exposing her inner brokenness.

In this vivid and transparent memoir, Susan takes us on a fascinating journey into the streets and homes of modern China. The travel memoir is interspersed with Susan's personal story of emotional and spiritual sabotage, shame, and shattered dreams. It all comes together as she opens her heart anew to God's love -- the most scandalous love of all.

Book Review:

Words like stimulating; culturally diverse, spiritually intuitive, enlightening, illuminating-- all describe the work of a gifted author--

Scandalon is rich in its account of pain and triumph, confusion and clarity. This truthful and honest depiction of humanness is beautifully illustrated in an enthralling story, that touches the very depth of the heart .

Scandalon unfolds the tapestry of life in scriptural principals, illustrating the multifaceted complexities of the human experience and weaves a portrait of cultural diversity and international history which is only manifest to an insider.

May God use Ms. Jenkins personal journey of character, heart and soul to reach and restore, revive and rescue, resolve and repair, replenish and release, renew and revitalize its readers into the next phase of their life’s journey.

As I read Scandalon, a scripture kept coming to mind “There hath no temptation taken you but such  as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” I thank God for allowing Susan to share her way of escape.

"The Weight

Of A Mantle"

Greetings to all of you today in the Name of Jesus.   2009 is almost over and yes it is the time when we start to make our plans for End of Year celebrations and Holiday gatherings.  We reflect back and see how the last few months look like a blur, we speculate on how the year went so fast, and we talk about what we will do in 2010.

I'm shocked at some of the declarations I heard in 2009 and the convictions with which they were spoken; and to see the preparation until manifestation is somewhat sad because the spirit of the spoken word has long vanished; in other words, a lot of hot air.  Here is where my assignment starts as “The Weight of a Mantle “is a real tool of Spiritual Empowerment. Let me explain while you scratch your head.

In The biblical days a mantle was seen as a garment worn by those of the 5 Fold ministries to signify the position and authority of the wearer. According to the Prophet’s Dictionary, mantles also reflect the latitude, stature, as well as the license to act.  A mantle dictates a way of communications with the bearer.  In other words what is learned, practiced, and provided to the 5 Fold Ministry gift to equip and empower them for service to God.  The distinction here is that The Mantle helps us perform in a more complete and confident manner in our gift.

Now that I have laid a foundation, let’s look at why a Mantle would be heavy or lighter for some people.  The weight of a Mantle may or may not be acceptable to us.  I agree with many of you who feel that we all should be able to realize that fact, the reality is different, and we all don't realize it.    Some how we have placed ourselves in positions of “see it”, “want it” and” got to have it”.    Nothing else matters to us but our desire and we just can't imagine someone else may actually feel the same way about their mantle as we do ours.  While that’s a novice thought that is so true in this day and age we live in.

If we are going to carry a Mantle for a particular ministry office, it is incumbent upon the carrier of the Mantle to seek to improve him or herself in areas of empowerment of the gift administration.  Some times we may see certain areas in others lives, but that does not automatically qualify us to Father or Mother them in The Lord.   I find that you will never effectively parent someone in the Lord until they allow you.  We are all adults and we make decisions based on what God has told us, and the reality of it is that your decision may or may not agree with someone whom you are connected to.  Do I mean that sometimes we make decisions that our spiritual seniors don't agree with, yes all day long.   The truth of the matter is they did also.  This is a continual generational process of growth.  Why are we so naive to this concept?  A example of this in biblical days was Job and his wife (Job 2:9)  His wife who told him to follow the custom of the day, to curse God and die.  She did not understand his suffering and yet we see her in the same generation as Job, She was his life mate, as we say today.  Imagine what differences we see in spiritual generations about how it ought to be done.

One of God’s greatest Field Generals in my humble opinion was a man named Smith Wigglesworth.  A plumber in the 1920’s who walked in a mantle unlike any of his day.  His faith was so strong, that he actually threw a dead man against a wall 27 times until he “was revived”.  What am I saying is that, can you imagine his critics, and the people around him who wanted to be developed in faith like he walked in but did not want to pay the price?  They did not want to carry the weight of the Mantle, so they were unable to walk in that particular mantle.    I find that anytime people see that “something”, they are attracted to it.  I'm speaking about the “Anointing to do what needs to be done “when God mandates.  That Anointing will cost many things.  Most of us aren't willing to pay with our time, our money, as well as cut unholy and non prosperous spiritual relationships.   How many times have we asked God for something only to find the cost and weight of what we asked to be too much?

This is a clear sign to me the weight of the Mantle may be too much at this time in one’s life.  That's what most people will not tell you.  They will invent excuse after excuse as to why the timing is not right, and a multitude of reasons why I know God told me this but not now.  Tomorrow is not promised but we bank on it anyway.  Somehow we forget that tomorrow will always be today when it arrives.  We always look to tomorrow because we can keep our positions of prestige and defer our destiny until tomorrow.   A tomorrow that never comes and a today we are unwilling to work in.  Sound like anyone you know?

When we prophesy to someone that they are a Prophet to the nations, what do they do?  They hear the word, but they take no action.  They truth is many times they have no clue on where to start, don't want advice, and somehow feel that God will put you in a Paul (3rd Heaven)  or John(Isle of Patmos)  experience and they will simply get caught up in a real life vision of the word that was spoken.   Can that happen? Sure it can but they will need a Paul, John type relationship with God.  When it does not happen in their prescribed time, they then find justifiable excuses on why it did not happen.  The fact of the matter is that the mantle is not to be transferred to them on their terms but in God’s plan, as he sets the time, place, and mandate or mission.  Sometimes the journey will be harder for some, and easier for others, but we seem to always want to be in comparison or competition mode and not the focus mode.  Truth is we all have our cross to bear.

Let’s look on the other side of the spectrum, we now have a mantle and we have those who feel you may or may not deserve the mantle.   God may allow us to see something concerning a person and we may feel like this is not deserved by a person.  We all have seen it, or been a victim of being proclaimed as someone who does not deserve it.     They even want to say God says no to you, and the reality is , do you believe God says yes.  Now whose report will you believe?  Do you trust God enough in your relationship? Do you trust the voice you hear other than yours?  Who do you trust?  Once you settle that question you will understand the weight of your mantle and learn how to manage it.    Remember Paul, who was not initially received among his Christian brethren? It was hard for them to accept him, the way he preached, and his zeal for God.  They knew of his past, they saw him not in the ‘now’; they saw him in the then.    God sees you in the now, the today, this moment through Jesus; so if you fall into this category then all the negative stuff you have heard should fuel you to greatness in God, as you stay in His presence.

When you have a mantle or you believe that God has given you a mantle, it is your responsibility to develop it either through a sent mentor or experience.  Most of us have a combination of both.  The reality is that the weight of the mantle has to be balanced within our lives or we will not be able to carry it.  When we fail, it does not mean that it’s over; it only means that we did not pass the test, and we need to get understanding on why we did not pass.  I must pose the question to every reader of this blog, how important is it to you?  How important is it to you to walk in your destiny, and not someone’s opinion?  Will you move forward, not be a double minded servant, unstable but a focused, driven servant that God will trust with his overflow Anointing?  When we get to heaven, I plan to make it my business to look Job up and ask him about this concept; I will be honored to be able to sit in his class on The Weight of a Mantle.

God bless you all, and let’s look forward to a great ‘09 ending and more awesome 2010 than any of us can imagine.  As always refer your comments to this website or email theprophetscox7@aol.com, I will respond as appropriate.

Testimony Time on Joy Comes.

This is my Testimony-- MIT Janice Frame

My Life Then and Now!

Have you ever wondered if things would get better in your life? I have many, many times in the past. I came to Christ as a young girl, but grew up in a very abusive home. From the age of 15 to 18, I was molested.  As a young adult I went totally against everything I was taught by my grandparents, whom I lived with for a season. I got into drinking, illicit sex, and later on got into drugs thinking it would help, but it didn't help at all.

I was married three times and while in those marriages I went through more abuse. If that was not enough I then chose to live with someone outside of marriage, knowing that it was not the right thing to do, this lasted for about five years; and at that point I moved from depressed to suicidal and gave up, not really caring about myself or anything.

I knew things were not good in my life for a very long time. I had drifted away from the Lord and had given Satan full reign in my life. I had chosen a life that was against God and I knew I was on a path to destruction and really didn't care one way or another back then. My body was falling apart, my health was on a down hill slide. I was hurting and did not care at all. I was living a lie. For a very long time I was out of touch with reality andGod. What brought it all to a head was the fact that I was alone and needed more in my life? I had lost my mom, who I thought was my security and stable point, but in reality she was "just my mom". The secure and stable one was God and I had turned on Him.

I remember one day meeting this lady online in a group I belonged to. Her name wasPastor Deborah Covington. She talked with me for long periods of time telling me how much God loved me and how He hated the choices I had made in my life. I started really listening to what she was saying. I finally began to care. One night while visiting with my sister in Michigan, I was talking to Pastor Covington on the computer she asked me if I thought it was time I rededicated my heart to the Lord? I immediately said YES!

The night of July 23, 2008, began a brand new life for me.  A life with the Lord in it, a life filled with God's love. I had started to actually care about myself, and what went on in my life. I started taking care of myself again. Getting my life straight withthe Lord was the best thing I have ever done.

Todaoy I know my life would be nothing without Him at the center of it. I started listening to what the Lord was saying to me. I was beginning to learn a lot of new things and a different ways to live and serve the Lord. I knew that in order for me to continue living for the Lord and getting my life back on track I had to move from where I was living. I moved away from where I grew up and went to live with Pastor Covington, as she opened her home to me.

From October 4,2008 I began a new life and a better life. I am so grateful for the Lord being a part of my life and sending the Holy Spirit to help and guide me. He also put Pastor Deborah  in my life to teach and show me things the Lord wanted me to know. He never let's a chance go by to show me something new and exciting. For instance one day while walking and talking with the Lord He dropped into my spirit this word, He said "Janice had you not obeyed Me and moved away from your home when you did I would have lost you forever". To me this said a lot! We as His children need to obey His commands for us. Therefore He uses people like Pastor Deborah and other ministers to teach and guide me. He shows me many new and wonderful things everyday!  We never stop learning.

Since I have been here I have lost over 100 pounds! I can walk up to 4 miles a day. I can stay up all day without needing a nap. I no longer take all the medications I was on, due to my blood pressure and blood sugar being level and normal. I have to give a big Thank you to the Lord for being in control of my life. I no longer get depressed and no longer in the same pain. I laugh more now than I have ever done in my life. I actually enjoy life now. It is all due to having the Lord in my life. He is the reason I am where I am today. I thank Him daily for what He has done in my life. I also thank Him for placing Pastor Deborah in myl ife. She is a true sister in the Lord. May He bless her many times over!

Thank you Father for giving me back my life and I thank Him for sending His son to die on the cross so that I might live.

Back to my original question, have you ever wondered if things would get better in your life? Well the day Iasked the Lord to be a part of my life; placing Him first in my life, was the day I knew things could only get better and better, never to be the same again. God's hand was not so short that Hecould not reach me where I was and He did!  It was the beginning of a new life in Christ! He will reach out to you as well if you will only let Him.  If you want your life to be filled with joy, health, happiness  and all the good things you need, then you need to have the Lord Jesus Christ in your life. As you bring Him into your life and let Him lead and guide you, He will be the best friend, brother and Father you could ever have. He only wants what is best for you.
