Journey

Journey. The word itself conjures up so many things. "Journey" comes from a Latin word meaning "daily portion." The original sense of the word was a distance that could be traveled in one day. We can do much in a day, and day by day, we can do much in a lifetime.

As a child, I looked forward to the journey of my life, red dress bright in the sun, at the head of the pack, ready to jump onto the ground and run. As an adult, I continue to find new ways to journey and to share it with others.

Workshops & Classes

I teach and facilitate classes and present workshops in four different areas: JourneyPoet, JourneyHero, JourneyTeacher, and JourneyMystic.

JourneyPoet:

The poet as journeyer, as player with words. This workshop is for poets at any skill level, even those who have never written a poem and fear that they cannot. Exercises are designed to emphasize playing with words and images and letting the poems flow naturally from that creative play.

JourneyHero:

We are all heroes of our own story. Story. The basic archetypal pattern of most stories involves the hero's journey. In the workshop and class, we explore the elements of the hero's journey, as envisioned by Joseph Campbell in The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Working through each element, participants design a story--fictional or not--that follows the hero pattern.

JourneyTeacher:

Teachers are educators, but even more than that, they are healers. We lead others to their own discoveries. How? This class explains the processes of developing a philosophy, of the nature of reality, community relationships, and more--all of the necessary ingredients for healthy and whole education and the ingredients that teacher training often misses.

JourneyMystic:

No matter what kind of writing you do, it can be a tool for your own personal growth. You can write to heal your past, to find your present, to express yourself, to meditate. This class shares the different ways that writing can be a tool for growth in your life.

Third Daughter: Book of Poetry

After wasting my money for years on chapbook and poetry book contests and never even getting a nibble, I finally decided to publish my stuff on my own because . . . it's good enough. Find out for yourself! Buy a copy! Here's the promo text that appears on lulu:

Third Daughter is a collection of poetry from a poet, storyteller, teacher, and porch-sitter from Oklahoma. These poems are based on myths--both ancient and contemporary, both familiar and bizarre. And everything, folks, is Okiefied.
