Dangers of starvation

If carbohydrate consumption is significantly reduced or stopped completely the body needs to use protein as an alternative to keep blood glucose levels stable. Muscles and organs are made of protein so the body will burn 30% muscle and organ, and 70% fat. On fasts muscle loss can be as much as 75%! Muscle weighs significantly more than fat, meaning people who are fasting/heavily restricting will be fooled into thinking they are losing a lot of fat. When muscle and organs are burnt this is dangerous, especially as heart muscle is burnt, and this can cause heart failure.
After a period of time of fasting or restricting, the body sets up cravings for highly calorific and refined-carbohydrate based food. Usually the person cannot resist the temptation to eat, and will binge, gaining back weight. The weight gained back is 100% fat.
The person then has damaged muscles and organs, but has more body fat than they started with, if they have not died of heart failure first.

Also, fasting slows the metabolism so any weight lost is gained back and the person would gain weight when only eating small quantities of food. Also fasting means the person would be lacking in vital nutrients and would get very ill.

Dangers and disadvantages of fasting

-the weight lost is water at first, and from then on weight-loss is made up of both fat and muscle loss - as much as 75% of the weight lost on a fast is muscle.

-the body goes into starvation mode so you will binge and gain back the weight (100% fat).

-your metabolism slows right down so you gain weight when you do eat even a tiny bit.

-you get vitamin deficiencies. You also cannot take vitamins whilst fasting because without food they aren’t absorbed, and they’ll also make you sick.

-repeated fasting causes loss of fluids and electrolytes which can cause heart problems and kidney failure.

-you faint, lose concentration, etc.

-toxins in your cells get released into your bloodstream (which is where the myth of fasting "cleansing your body of toxins" comes from) and is dangerous.
