Joshua's Journey

A site for LGBT youth and our allies.

Hello and welcome to my website! This is a place where I write about things in general such as my life, my interests, my beliefs, my family, my friends, and about any and all topics of interest. I enjoy life, love, and people so there will be topics devoted to this as well. I am also gay and very proud of it so a majority of my website and its topics will be devoted to this topic. I truly believe that we are all born who we are and that our sexuality is not a choice. I know that I was born gay and that I did not choose to be gay. I also believe that no matter what our sexuality is we are all just being ourselves which is always a wonderful thing to be. We are all unique individuals and that is what helps make this world such a beautiful and diverse place. ~ Joshua

                                        April 16, 2014

04/16/14 Good morning everyone! I just wanted to let everyone know that I have uploaded new pictures of James and I from our cross-country drive as well as two new videos. Most of them are from here in San Diego and some are more pictures from the Grand Canyon. I have settled in quite comfortably even though my schedule is extremely hectic and busy. College is going extremely well and I love all of my classes and have made some new and wonderful friends. I still miss my friends and family back in St. Louis but we stay in touch every day and I know I will be able to see them on breaks and holidays. My new doctor here is wonderful and is very professional and someone that I am very comfortable with. My medical concerns and conditions are being taken care of extremely well by him and I am doing well health-wise. I will update again as soon as possible and I wish all of you a very beautiful day! ~ Joshua

04/06/14 A lot of you have been asking how to actively stay involved and receive support now that the school year is over or almost over in many communities. The Gay-Straight Alliance in many communities remains active even when the school year is over. In addition, many communities have a LGBT club. Both of these are great places to remain involved with and to receive support from other LGBT youth and our allies. I have provided links below to help you locate the closest Gay-Straight Alliance and LGBT club in your area. If you need sources of additional support or further information please contact me and I am always glad to help in any way possible. ~ Joshua

             San Diego!

James and I made it safely to San Diego! It was a long but beautiful drive from Arizona to here and we are both so very glad we decided to drive! It gave us the opportunity to see many beautiful sights along the way which we will both always treasure! Today will be an extremely busy day for us. We have to meet with property management in a couple of hours to receive the keys to our apartment and the movers are scheduled to arrive this afternoon with our furniture and everything. The weekend will be quite busy too organizing our apartment and buying the things we will need. I will also be busy preparing for the Spring Quarter at college. But I will update and keep you informed as much as I possibly can during this very busy but wonderful time in my life. I want to thank everyone for all of your best wishes during our long journey across America and they all touched my heart! Have a beautiful day everyone and I will update again as soon as possible! ~ Joshua

03/18/14 Arizona is beautiful! James, his relatives, and I had such a wonderful time seeing the Grand Canyon yesterday! If you have not seen it yet and ever have the opportunity I highly suggest it. I took a lot of pictures and some of them are below. I also took some videos and I have uploaded some of them to the "Members Only" section. Please do not laugh at me in the third video, but I am afraid of heights :P. James was being silly and my fear of heights shows by the expression on my face in that video :P.

We will be leaving on our third and final part of our journey which is from here to San Diego first thing tomorrow morning. I will try and update again as soon as I possibly can. I sincerely appreciate all of the best wishes I have received from everyone and I am replying to all of them as fast as I can. Please be patient until I am able to reply to everyone. I want to thank everyone that has expressed concern for my medical conditions as well. I want to assure everyone that I am alright and taking care of myself and James is making sure that all my medical requirements are being met. Have a beautiful day everyone! ~ Joshua

We are staying with one of my relatives for two days and then we will begin the second part of our journey which is Denver, CO to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. It was 850 miles to drive here but we are having a wonderful time and we are extremely happy we took this opportunity to drive. We took quite a few pictures and videos and I will upload them as soon as possible. I uploaded a few which are available below. Have a beautiful weekend everyone and I will update again as soon as possible! ~ Joshua

02/18/14 A close personal friend of mine relayed to me today that he is having some difficulty being gay and still being in the closet. It can be such a difficult time and someone still in the closet can sometimes be overcome with overwhelming feelings. The pressures on gay teens can be very troublesome at times. Keeping secrets, telling lies, and denying things sometimes to those closest to you. Please just remember that everyone is special and worth being loved and cared for just as they are. There is no rush in coming out of the closet. This is something that each individual needs to carefully decide as to when to do this. But for those of you still in the closet, just know that you are loved and cared about and should be accepted just as you are. For the person that you are. Never let anyone convince you otherwise. ~ Joshua

02/07/14 Matt passed away yesterday and I feel so lost and devastated. We were at the hospital visiting him earlier in the day and he seemed his usual positive and upbeat self. His mom called me at 2:30am and told me what happened. I will always love you Matt and you will never be forgotten. ♥ ~ Joshua

Until We Meet Again, Rest In Peace

Every End is a New Beginning

01/ 28/14 Every end is always a new beginning. I want to sincerely thank everyone that was there for me during my two weeks in the hospital. All of you that visited me and sent me messages of love and support touches my heart. I have received a lot of messages regarding what happened and I am in the process of responding to all of them. I want to assure everyone now though that my surgery was successful and I am on the path to a full recovery. For those of you that were and are there for me, I thank you with all my heart. I thought there would be one person always there for me but as it turns out, this in not the situation. He always promised me he would always be there for me and he is the last person on the face of this Earth I thought would lie to me and break a promise to me. People are sometimes very difficult to understand but he made his choice and decision and now I must make mine.

Every End is a New Beginning

I am required by my doctors to take it relatively easy for the next week or two. I will then have some medical tests that I must undergo to make sure I am completely healed and recovered from my surgery. I will then be embarking on a new beginning. This new beginning will be my move to another state for college and to pursue my degree in obtaining my DVM. I really thought the aforementioned person would be a part of this journey with me. But people are sometimes very difficult to understand. He made his choice and decision and now I am making mine.

Every End is a New Beginning

My boyfriend James, my parents, my friends, and a lot of you that are members recommended that I inform the aforementioned person that anything we shared is now over. I sent him an email for closure two days ago and tonight I sent him an email saying goodbye. I am really glad I did because now I have closure and peace of mind. The aforementioned person lied to me on numerous occasions and argued and always wanted to fight on numerous occasions. He made comments that were extremely cruel, hateful, and mean-spirited. Things that could only be said by someone that really does not love me, care about me, or has any concern for me. I should have listened to everyone sooner and I should have seen the warning signs. He made his choice and decision and now I have made mine.

Every End is a New Beginning

My boyfriend James and I can now concentrate fully on our relationship and the true unconditional love we share with each other without interference from the aforementioned person. I should have listened to my boyfriend from the very beginning and never let the aforementioned person come into my life to the extent that he did. Fortunately James is the most loving and caring guy and he understands things sometimes happen. I am forever thankful that James stayed with me and by my side the entire time. James and I will be moving soon to another state and living together and spending our lives together. James is the love of my life, my boyfriend, my soulmate, and my future husband. He is everything to me and I will never let anyone interfere with our love again. The aforementioned person taught me this valuable lesson. He made his choice and decision and I have now made mine and I am happy and at peace knowing I am with the true love of my life, my most beautiful James!

Happy Hew Year Everyone!

01/03/14 Happy New Year! I want to take a moment to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! I sincerely hope everyone had a very wonderful, beautiful, and safe Holiday Season and that you have a very safe and wonderful New Year! Please take a moment to reflect on all of the things that you personally experienced this past year and look forward to all of your experiences this year. Face each and every moment, no matter what it is, with a positive outlook and with gratitude and thanks. Always be proud of who you are because you are just being yourself which is always a wonderful thing to be! ~ Joshua

    Empowering Youth

          in Schools!

                                                     December 11, 2013

12/11/13 There are numerous ways in which love and support of of LGBT youth can be expressed. One of these ways is through a Gay-Straight Alliance. Other LGBT youth may want and need the extra support of someone and a way to reach out to others when needed. One of the best ways to find support and to talk with someone that understands what you may be thinking and feeling is through a Gay-Straight Alliance. I was very involved with the Gay-Straight Alliance at my school and always found it to be a wonderful place for support and to make new friends that understood what I was thinking and feeling.

A Gay-Straight Alliance at your school is a wonderful place to receive any support you may need and to find someone to talk to. It is a place to empower other LGBT and our allies in the fight against homophobia. If your school has a Gay-Straight Alliance I highly recommend that you join it no matter what your sexuality is. If your school does not have one, please seriously consider starting one. The link provided will give you all the information you need to start a Gay-Straight Alliance at your school. ~ Joshua

                                                                            November 25, 2013

11/25/13 As Thanksgiving is fast approaching I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! This is a time to express gratitude and to be thankful for our many blessings. This holiday in the United States commemorates and celebrates a harvest festival by the pilgrims in 1621 and is a time for family, relatives, and loved ones to get together and mark this occasion and to be thankful for their many blessings.

Even if you do not celebrate this holiday it is a wonderful time and opportunity to reflect upon all of the things each one of us has to be thankful for. We all have something we are thankful for and whatever it is that you may be personally thankful for take this opportunity to give thanks and express gratitude. I sincerely wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving and have a wonderful holiday! ~ Joshua

11/24/13 Many of you have been asking for further information requesting how to be more involved in the campaign to prevent and stop the bullying of other LGBT youth. There are quite a few wonderful organizations that specifically provide wonderful information regarding this topic.

One of the best organizations regarding this topic is "Stop Bullying". This site provides excellent information on how someone can be more involved in stopping the bullying of LGBT youth as well as any individual that faces bullying.

Another great site is "Pacer". Their site provides excellent information regarding the topic of bullying and how someone can become involved to help prevent and stop bullying. Their site contains valuable resources in regards to the issue of bullying and has excellent sources of help available regarding this issue. ~ Joshua

         WHO YOU ARE!

                                                            August 11, 2013

08/11/13 I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far! My weekend is going well although it has been very involving. There are so many things I am involved with at the moment and one of them is my preparations for my upcoming move. This process has been very time-consuming and there are just so many things to do as I prepare to move to a different state for college. This entails things that are major to the small details. One of these small details was accomplished yesterday. My dad wanted me to have a new set of luggage so he took me to one of the local malls yesterday to purchase a new set even though I really didn't need one. The luggage I already had was perfectly fine, almost brand new and only a year old, but my dad insisted. That's just the way he is. But in the process I was able to purchase some other things and he treated me to a nice dinner out :).

While we were at the mall yesterday we decided to have a quick snack in the food court. This is an area in the mall that a lot of other teenagers "hang-out" and socialize. I noticed there were two guys sitting at a table located not very far from us. They were both openly gay as they were hugging each other and kissing each other. I would estimate they were both in their very early twenties. Two other guys walked past them and said a very derogatory word in a very loud manner. I will not use that word on my site but it is very offensive to most gay people. I was completely shocked when I heard this and by the expressions on the faces of the two guys it was obvious they were too. It was also obvious by their expressions they both were hurt by this comment.

I am the type of person that usually stands up for what I believe in and I just couldn't sit there and watch something like this happen. I approached the guys that made this derogatory comment and said to them "why does it matter to you what their sexuality is"? One of them responded "are you a ****** too"? I said "yes and I am very proud of it". I further explained to them that a person's sexuality, no matter what sexuality, is something we are born with and is something to be proud of. I explained to them that it shouldn't matter to them or anyone else what a person's sexuality is because love is love no matter what.

After my explanations, these two guys actually apologized to me as well as the other two guys that were at the table and walked away. While I may not necessarily condone having a direct confrontation with someone as I did, I do believe that we need to stop and prevent any type of bullying or verbal abuse of any type. If you witness any type of bullying or verbal abuse, please do what you can to stop it and prevent it. As a society we need to have respect for each other no matter what our sexuality or any other differences might be. And please always be proud of who you are! ~ Joshua

                                CELEBRATE!  EMBRACE!  LOVE!  PRIDE!

                                                         August 07, 2013

08/07/13 I hope everyone is having a wonderful week so far! My week has been extremely busy but very enjoyable so far. My parents, brother, James, and I spent the night visiting with some of my relatives that live in a different city. We are having a wonderful time and it is a great opportunity for me to see a lot of my relatives that I probably will not have the opportunity to see again for quite awhile after my move. It is difficult preparing for my move and saying good bye to everyone. But at the same time I know I will be able to see them when I come back for breaks and Holidays.

I have posted the requested content in the "Members Only" page and I look forward to your feedback regarding it. My TrevorSpace group scheduled for today will take place at the designated time and I look forward to as many of you as possible attending. I want to thank Steve for helping me with the last group and a special thank you to Shane for your participation last time. The information you provided was extremely helpful to everyone! Have a beautiful day everyone and I will update again soon! ~ Joshua

June 20, 2013 This time of year numerous communities throughout the country as well as the world celebrate gay pride with gay pride fests and events. The community that I reside in is no exception. At the end of this month there will be a Gay Pride Fest the entire weekend where individuals of all sexualities can come together, celebrate their sexuality, and be who they are. The majority of the people that I know that reside in this area will be in attendance no matter what their sexuality is: gay, straight, bisexual, asexual, autosexual, polysexual, demisexual, or any other sexuality. Along with the majority of my friends my boyfriend and I will also be attending. We are fortunate enough in that we will be marching in the Gay Pride Parade with other LGBT youth with the "It Gets Better" campaign. We were invited to participate in this parade and it is something my boyfriend and I look forward to.

Gay pride and being proud of the person that you are is something that should be celebrated all year long. But it is at this time of year that the opportunity presents itself more so than ever to everyone. My boyfriend and I attended our first gay pride fest last year and it was an amazing and wonderful time. If your community is having a gay pride fest or event I highly recommend that you attend. It is a wonderful opportunity for all sexualities to come together and celebrate gay pride, our diversities, our differences, and our similarities. It is a wonderful time to be who you are no matter what your sexuality and to share this experience with people of all sexualities, races, nationalities, and cultures. Have pride in who you are no matter what your sexuality is and celebrate your sexuality no matter what it is all of the time! ~ Joshua
