This is not going to be pleasant reading.
There isn't any profanity, or adult material, or racism, but there is a lot of undesirable behavior being accurately portrayed. Sometimes we have to talk about these things, but making that fun is no small trick, and I will offer no promises that I succeeded. Are you sure that you want to go this way?
This is not an attempt at reverse psychology. I was having a genuinely bad time during the incidents described on these pages. Most of the site would make for much more pleasant and interesting reading. Seriously. Unless, of course, these topics are of personal relevance to you in some way.
There are small homepages for the Joseph Dunphy Homepage ring and the "Webring buried Me" ring (consumer reports re:Webring.com), these and the "Abouting your passions" ring homepage (philosophical satire) being the only wholly non-Western US oriented material on this site. In relation to a truly dismal trip which I took to Nevada, or should I say to one very specific point in Nevada (Burning Man), I have a homepage for "Dissatisfied Customers of the Green Tortoise", and the copy of "Bad Times on the Green Tortoise" (a journal of my trip) located on this site.
Far more often not, though, the experiences I've had visiting the West have been thoroughly pleasant, which (as I've said) is why this site has the theme it does. Wouldn't you rather return to the main page, and read about some of those? No? Well, then you have links to that material, and I hope that you get good use out of it. It's writing that I stand behind, and which needed to be written, I think, but in case you haven't guessed, yet, I kind of wish that I didn't have to have it posted here, next to my more pleasant material.
For the most part, if you're looking for a page I put up about one of the strange people I had to deal with, online or off, you're in the wrong place. Most of that material is on the aptly named Halls of Eternal Disbelief at Newsguy, part of which can also be found at a location at Geocities. If you do choose to follow those links, be forewarning that profanity and offensive material is present at the Newsguy location. The Geocities location was set up in an attempt to talk about bigotry, and while it is profanity-free, it is very unpleasant reading. Don't follow those links if you'd be bothered by this; if you do follow them, in spite of being warned, you forfeit all right to complain to Freewebs about these links and be taken seriously, because you knew what you were getting yourself in for, and make an informed choice to seek that out. Your informed decision, your responsibility.
Really, wouldn't you just rather go back to the main page, and just forget about all of this, especially when there are so many things to read that are so much more pleasant?
