The Bradford Jonnycake Center of Westerly

Serving the residents of Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond and Westerly since 1975

HISTORY

The Bradford Jonnycake Center, Inc. was founded in 1975 as a non-profit charitable organization.  For over three decades, the Center was located in the village of Bradford, RI, in the same building that houses the United States Post Office for Bradford.  The store was located on the bottom level and the food pantry was located on the second floor.  A third floor storage area was added later.

The Center was founded by 31 churches to serve the residents of the Rhode Island towns of Westerly, Richmond, Hopkinton and Charlestown.

The center celebrated its first anniversary at its new location in Westerly in June of 2008. As our clients' needs have grown over the years, the Board of Directors recognized that a larger facility would be required. The relocation and expansion from a 2,300 square foot building on three floors to a single level at over 8,000 square feet has allowed us to grow of our existing services and expand our mission in the area of educational programs for our clients.

The Bradford Jonnycake Center of Westerly networks with other agencies throughout the state to provide comprehesive  services to our clients.  Other cooperating agencies include Wood River Health Services, United Way of Rhode Island, South County Community Action, South Shore Mental Health, The Visiting Nurses Association, The W.A.R.M. Shelter, and many area churches. The Center is also a member of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Throughout the years, our local communities in Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond and Westerly have supported us on our mission to help those of our neighbors in need.  We have enjoyed the support of the business community and many local foundations and organizations.

In particular, we'd like to thank the Kimball Foundation the Champlin Foundations, The Washington Trust Company and Newpord Federal Savings Bank for their generous support during our relocation.
