What is an affiliate program?

An affiliate program is based on the agreement of two entities, the advertiser and the publisher. The advertiser pays the publisher – i.e. the affiliate - for every specific action determined in advance.

The publisher placed on or several ads pointing to the advertiser’s site, with an affiliate code embedded in the HTML, thus tracking every action. Some affiliate programs use cookies as the only way of tracking, making them a potential target for cookie-jacking.
