Depp uncovered mounds of buried trea sure as Capt. Jack Spar row in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" flicks - earning more money in a single year than almost any other actor in history. His income more than tri pled since last year's list.

"It was obviously a huge year for him," said Eliza beth Wasden of Forbes magazine.

The third "Pirates" film has already made more than $500 million.

Depp is the most powerful actor on the "Celebrity 100 Power List," but sixth overall.

Oprah Winfrey scored the list's top spot, with $260 million in earnings.

Her talk show, production company and magazine drove her power ranking up from last year's third place, making her "one of the most influential people on the planet," according to Forbes.

Forbes' list gives the most weight to a celebrity's earnings over the past 12 months, but also factors popularity based on presence in the press.

"Pirates" producer Jerry Bruckheimer made $120 million over the last year, the second most of any on the list, but his relative absence in the news accounts for his low rank, only 39th.

Forbes puts supermodel Gisele Bundchen in 53rd, attributing her success to her popular shoe line, Ipanema. Custom Ipanema flip-flops sell for as much as $230 a pair. Bundchen earned $33 million last year, adding to her estimated $150 million fortune. She is considered the richest supermodel in the world.

Tiger Woods ranks No. 2 on this year's list, with $100 million. His tournament winnings and lucrative contracts with Nike, American Express and General Motors make him the first athlete ever to earn $100 million in a year.

'Pirates of the Caribbean' will debut in Anaheim

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," the third installment of the blockbuster movie franchise, will have its world premiere on May 19 at Disneyland, the Walt Disney Co. announced. The film's stars, including Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush, are expected to attend.

The event also will serve as a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, with $3 million expected to be raised. Tickets to the premiere are $1,500 and are available at www.piratespremiere.com.

The movie will open nationally on May 25. Its predecessor, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," was the top-grossing film of 2006 and has taken in more than $423 million domestically.

Pirates 3 Is Going to be Epic - New Trailer Details!!

Out at ShoWest in Las Vegas I walked inside of the opening ceremony presentation the moment before the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean 3 began, just perfectly in time. It was an experience to behold, as the screen was as large as the entire Broadway stage it was on and the projector was the most beautiful, brilliant picture I've ever seen (and I mean ever). Without further ado, here are a few details from the new trailer that I remember.

» Right in the middle of a fight on a ship, Orlando Bloom asks Keira Knightley “will you marry me?” upon which she replies about why he was asking now (in the middle of fighting).

» One of the final epic battles, as seen in the trailer, revolves (literally) around a huge whirlpool that forms in the middle of an ocean, where two ships, Davy Jones vs Johnny Depp, fight as they spin around. Tons of action scenes involving this.

» An awesome sword fight where three people, including Keira Knightley, are standing on a deck and people underneath them throw swords up through the slots and they catch them and start fighting.

» An awesome fight scene where Johnny Depp and Davy Jones are sword fighting one-on-one on the edge of a ship. This one is going to be amazing in the final film.

» Tia Dalma and Geoffrey Rush (aka Barbossa) are fairly prominent in the trailer, so it's no longer a plot reveal when Captain Barbossa appears in the trailer.

My response from the whole thing – Pirates of the Caribbean 3 is going to be EPIC. If you thought the $1 billion box office earnings last year were big, just wait until this May, when we've got Spider-Man 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates 3 all in one month. I can tell you this is going to be one intense battle. It's going to be Tobey Maquire one-on-one sword fighting Johnny Depp instead.

Everything in this trailer was just exciting and astounding. I was way more excited watching this trailer than watching the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean 2. There were a lot more scenes within it, as it was a full 2 and a half minute trailer that will be fully unveiled early next week. However, I can confidently say that there are no worries for Disney – Pirates 3 is going to be an epic movie and have an epic opening. And this trailer will get you more excited than you've ever been.

 

Johnny Depp Puts The Brakes On Filming

Filming has come to a grinding halt as Johnny Depp tends to his ailing daughter.  The charismatic Depp puts his child first until she is in the clear.

The movie “Sweeney Todd” was to begin filming over the weekend, but it has been reported that the production will be put on hold until Depp’s daughter, Lily-Rose, makes a full recovery.  Fortunately, the project has not been scrapped and “the plan is to re-employ everybody when she is better,” an informer told the Sun.

It said the Pirates Of The Caribbean star, who has enthused about the joys of fatherhood, and his partner Vanessa Paradis are keeping a round-the-clock vigil on the youngster. The Mirror said it knew what Lily-Rose's medical condition was and where she was being treated but was not revealing those details to protect the family's privacy.

Daily Variety reports Indian filmmaker Mira Nair has signed on to direct his sidelined project Shantaram, a film that was thrust into limbo when Peter Wier dropped out as director last year. The film would be based on he book by Gregory David Roberts, a book that is said to be partly autobiographical. The story follows an Australian heroin addict who escapes from prison and disappears into the slums of Bombay, where he poses as a doctor helping the poor. His mission becomes real, and he delves into counterfeiting, smuggling and gunrunning to finance his medical efforts. Warner Bros., Depp's Infinitum Nihil and Brad Pitt’s Plan B shingle are all involved in the production. Shooting on the film could well begin in the fall. Nair's previous films include Salaam Bombay!, Mississippi Masala and Vanity Fair.

This is one of the hottest news today. Last year, Warner Bros. had announced that Johnny Depp was to star in film adaptation of Gregory David Roberts's novel Shantaram. The film was then to be directed by Peter Weir, but he later opted out of the project. However, now, Mira Nair has been finalized to direct the film. The film will be co produced by Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp. Shantaram will be shot extensively, in Mumbai and also in Australia and North America. Eric Roth is writing the script of the film. Mira Nair however, is currently working on a small budget film which deals with the issue of AIDS. The film stars Shiney Ahuja, Raima Sen and Irrfan Khan.

GROTON, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 03, 2007 -- Johnny Depp has been voted the Top Money-Making Star of 2006 in Quigley Publishing Company's 75th Annual Top Ten Money-Making Stars Poll. Depp, who appeared in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" in 2006, has appeared twice in the poll previously -- last year when he was second to Tom Cruise and in 2003 when he played Jack Sparrow in the original "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."

The Quigley Poll, conducted every year since 1932, is an annual survey of motion picture exhibitors, which asks them to vote for the ten stars that they believe generated the most box-office revenue in the preceding year for their theatres. Long regarded as one of the most reliable indicators of a Star's box-office draw because the selections are done by people whose livelihood depends on choosing the films that will bring audiences to their theatres, the Quigley Poll appears annually in Quigley Publishing Company's International Motion Picture Almanac and at www.quigleypublishing.com.

In his fourth appearance, Leonardo DiCaprio finished second in the voting on performances in "Blood Diamond" and "The Departed," followed by Will Smith ("The Pursuit of Happyness") and Denzel Washington ("Déjà Vu" and "Inside Man") who have been in the Poll six and four times respectively. Tom Hanks ("The Da Vinci Code" and "Cars" -- voice) was fifth this year and has been in the Top Ten thirteen times since 1988, including placing first five times.

The rest of the Top Ten in order were: George Clooney #6, Will Ferrell #7, last year's winner Tom Cruise #8, Dakota Fanning #9 and in his first appearance, the pride of Kazakhstan, Sacha Baron Cohen, placed #10. In spite of his very public dismissal from Paramount, exhibitors know Cruise's box-office potency; this is his nineteenth time voted into the poll, including a record seven times as the Top Money-Making Star. The only female in the Top Ten, twelve-year-old Dakota Fanning, was voted last year's Star of Tomorrow. Shirley Temple was the youngest actor to appear in the Top Ten at age six in 1934 and made the poll six years in a row until 1939.

Five on last year's list that did not make it in 2006 are Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon and Adam Sandler.

To date, Tom Cruise has been voted number one seven times. Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds and Bing Crosby have all won five times. John Wayne, Doris Day and Shirley Temple each finished first four times, but John Wayne was voted one of the Top Ten Money-Making Stars an astounding 25 times from 1949 to 1974.

Exhibitors were also asked to name the Stars of Tomorrow for 2006: one actor and one actress who they feel will be Top Money-Makers in the years to come. The 2006 winners are Daniel Craig who starred as the new James Bond in "Casino Royale" and the talented Maggie Gyllenhaal who was in "World Trade Center," "Stranger than Fiction" and "SherryBaby" in 2006.

Forget effeminate pirates, Johnny Depp was born to play effeminate rockers. That may be exactly what he’ll do, according to an item picked up by JoBlo from The Independent. They say he may be playing brilliant Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

Why not? After all, Captain Jack Sparrow is Keith Richards. Why not do the rock and roll thing for real? The project is still in early development with Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Productions, with original Queen guitarist Brian May somehow involved in the project. May confirmed its existence and threw his support behind Johnny as the killer Queen.

This sounds to me more like May’s dream casting for the character, rather than something that’s actually happening. Has the part been offered to Depp? Has he expressed an interest in tackling it? I don’t know. As a Queen fan, I do know he’d be damn near a perfect fit for the part. Not only can Depp pull off the part, with a little makeup it’d be easy to see him as a dead ringer for the drunken, AIDs stricken, gay rock and roll frontman. Freddie Mercury is the kind of part Johnny Depp was born to play.

If it’s not Depp, then maybe they should consider hiring Borat. The physical similarities are uncanny.

London, Dec. 29: Pirates of The Caribbean star Johnny Depp has been named the most looked-for actor of 2006, with 42 million web surfers searching online information about him on the Internet Movie Database website.

His reprised role as a charismatic pirate with a rock star swagger and a penchant for rum and heavy eyeliner, is said to have won him the first position in the list of 20 most searched for actors.

If there's one actor who doesn't mind being labelled "weird", it would be Johnny Depp, for he thinks that being different is kind of normal.

and the most recent Captain Jack Sparrow, insists that playing such roles has helped him discover himself.

The actor also believes that people who don't explore their weirdness are doing themselves a "great disservice", for they are the ones who become too conscious of others' opinions.

"People do themselves a great disservice by not allowing themselves to see who they really are because they are afraid of what others might think," he added.

Depp, who will once again be seen on the big screen when he returns as quirky pirate Captain Jack Sparrow in the third and final part of the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' trilogy, has been preparing for his role as demonic barber Sweeney Todd by practicing his razor skills at home, and is spending hours on end pretending to cut imaginary throats.

"Johnny is always very conscientious in his roles. For this part he has to get into the mind of a serial killer. He wants to feel adept with the razor blades, to feel as if they were an extension of his arm," a source revealed.
