National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) #DCA01MA063 provides the offical flight path and altitude of United Flight 175 from Boston Logan Airport to the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. You may wonder why UA175 never, ever headed towards Los Angeles LAX airport, but, instead, from the moment it offically departed Logan, it headed to New York City. The plane was hijacked at 8:47 and still didn't change directions - the captain had been so helpful at the beginning!

At 8:58, Flight 175 was at an altitude of 28,500 feet, approximately 27,500 feet higher than the point at which it is reported to have hit WTC 2.

According to the NTSB, Flight 175's trip ended at 9:02:40. The graph of the fight's altitude shows what wikipedia describes as a power dive; no level flight after beginning the descent.

NTSB also shows the flight path. United flight 175 completed its final turn back to New York City also at 8:58 (point "G" on the graph"). This was completed at approximately 28,500 feet, before starting its "power dive."

Fox News Reporting

Fox News affiliate WNYW interviewed a man from Hoboken NJ calling himself "Jim Friedl." The YouTube video may be seen here. Jim reported being in a building ("I looked out the window") from where he could see the WTC towers. After the "telephone" interview, the WNYW talking head (TH) saw a second plane hit WTC 2. The video does not show the plane nor the strike.  Unlike Jim Friedl, the WNYW TH did not have any windows from which he could observe the South Tower from the south exposure.

The "live" cameras never showed any aircraft, nor the actual strike.  There were several "fixed" cameras. All of which could have shown the actual aircraft striking the south tower, but didn't. When WTC 2 explodes slightly to the left of the camera's viewable area, the WNYW TH head immediately says "Oh, there's another one" and immediately identifies the problem as another suicide terrorist attack.

Despite reporting the "suicide plane" hitting the south tower, the viewing audience is never given a look at whatever video the WNYW TH saw.

The WNYW TH "re-establishes" contact with "Dick Oliver" who is "on the phone" near Park Row (NE of the WTC) and reports some kind of "vehicle" crashing into the world trade center. He catches the "error" and calls it an aircraft doing it on purpose. Despite his difficulty identifying what hit the tower, he offers the subjective opinion that it is a "terrorist attack." From where he is, I wonder how he could have seen anything hit the tower from the Southwest.  The background noises included street sounds, so he seems to be at ground level. He also mentions talking to people leaving the scene, again implying he is at ground level.

Describing the people leaving the area, he assumes they heard "the second blast." He then lapses into calling the strikes "explosions," both of them. He also assumes that the gray smoke is from water being put on the fires.

The TH describes an "ember" falling from the empire state building. I cannot figure out what the heck he is talking about, since embers are from wood and the empire state building was not involved.

Oliver reports a serious fire on the 60th or 70th floor of the northeast corner of the south tower. United Flight 175 is reported to have struck between the 78th and 84th floors. Since this is just moments after the strike, if he could see that low on the tower, how did a fire start there - 18 floors away from the actual strike?

The reporter on the ground reports that the towers appear to be structurally sound (confirmed in the FEMA report) and there is little debris falling. Once again, he refers to "explosions" rather than "crashes" as the affected sites. He talks about "whatever happend in those two towers" when he says we shouldn't worry about them falling down.

He changes the description of where he is from Park Row to City Hall Park in front of city hall. In fact, the view may be better from that spot, but it is far less likely that he can see any flying object approaching the south tower from the southwest as the tower itself will be in the way. There is, of course, no way for hiin to have seen anything actually hit the south side of the south tower as he is in the north. After he read his script at the beginning, he stops saying anything about an aircraft and, in fact, disputes it.

Reporter on the ground again says "something hit the building, and then something hit both buildings" as what he says to people on the ground when they ask "what happened?"

WNYW TH interrupts the reporter on the ground once more to say that a plane deliberately struck the south tower. Realize, of course, he is in a studio and can only see what his cameras show him, like us.

The WNYW talking head (TH) once again says that it was a terror attack by two airplanes. Reporter on the ground starts to correct him with; "Jim, I don't know whether we confirmed whether this was an aircraft or to be more specific, some people said..." and he is cut off. Despite the TH affirming that he saw the second plane srtike, we, the viewers, are never shown any such video at this time.

We are taken to FOX news where they say they have witnesses on the ground saying it was a deliberate aircraft strike.  Note that, we were never shown such witnesses - we had a reporter on the ground who interviewed no one and disavowed that the towers were hit by aircraft. The WNYW TH, in the sudio, was the only person on the ground who said the attack was deliberate and he couldn't have seen it.
