My name is Jessica Lee Womack and I have attended Highland Tech Charter for the entirety of my high school career. I have been involved in many aspects of my school, helping to form my future. The biggest impact has been the semester I attended the King Career Center Early Childhood Education class. This experience has shown me my passion for children, and given me determination to achieve my goal of becoming a pre-school teacher.
I attended the King Career Center in the spring of 2006, and it changed my outlook completely. I learned how young children learn at amazing rates, and they come up with new ideas each day. There wasn’t a dull moment, whether I was helping them finger-paint, acting out a play, or learning CPR, and the proper way to resuscitate a three-year-old. After just the first day of eighteen rambunctious preschool children, I knew I wanted to do this for years to come. My semester at KCC gave me about half the hours I need for my child development certification. After a spring 2007 “second semester,” I will have all the hours I need to complete the training. In the fall of 2007, I will begin my college career at UAA, and work further towards my goal.
To pay for my college classes, books, and housing, I will depend greatly upon my UA Scholars scholarship; something I have worked towards since I was in grade school. I was awarded this scholarship for being in the top 10 percent of my graduating class. I will also depend on grants from native corporations. I will be applying for others as well, and do everything I can to earn a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education.
Throughout my life, I have greatly depended on the support of others to succeed, but in the last few years at Highland, I have had support to believe in myself, and to focus on what I want and need. When I am off and on my own, I will use these things I have learned from my mentors. I will look to friends, family, and teachers for support, but if they’re not there, I know I can depend on myself.
High school has been an interesting ride, and I’m thankful to have found my passion. I have prepared myself for I can do it on my own. I am on my way to success, and nothing can stop me now.
