Well Met, Fair Traveler!
Hello there, intrepid explorer of the endless Intarwebz. It seems
you've stumbled across my little corner of webspace, and frankly, I'm
delighted!
But who am I?
It's a good question, especially if you've stumbled here by accident (instead
of just coming where I told you to, if you're one of my friends)! So...
I'm Janella K., and I like to write. That's what this is for, you
know; all the stuff that I write. This comprehensive site lists and organizes all the writing I've put on the Internet, so that it can accessed and monitored from one place. Stories archived on other sites will be linked here; "extra" material and fic that cannot be posted elsewhere will be archived here alone.
Hopefully, since you're here, you'll be kind enough to take a look at a little of my work?
The Different Kinds of Fiction
So what is it I write, exactly? My work can be categorized into
roughly three different categories: fan, original, and crack.
Fanfiction is writing that is based on the work of another. It
takes the characters and settings of a novel, or television show, or
what have you, and places them in new situations. While the
individual plots and happenings in the stories are my own, the basic
premise is borrowed (respectfully, I swear!) from another. The fandoms that I have work archived for on this site are The Phantom of the Opera, Hellboy, Over the Hedge, Good Omens, Monsters, Inc, and Transformers.
Original fiction is work that is entirely my own. I come up with
all the characters, work out all the plots, develop all the worlds, and
otherwise produce the entire thing, wholesale, from the creative
centers of my mind. Unlike with fanfiction, it's all mine. Most of my original fiction is urban fantasy--i.e., stories set in a modern-day world very similar to this one, only containing fantastic or supernatural elements.
Crackfic is...something else entirely. The definition of crackfic
is, perforce, somewhat fluid--when I use the term, I use it to mean fic
that has a very shaky premise (or one that breaches accepted fanfic
netiquette), but is otherwise logical and well-written. For me, it's
almost always implausible crossover fic--unlikely crosses with my own
original fiction, or with other fandoms. I enjoy writing it, and
I certainly hope others enjoy reading it, but it's really not most
people's cup of tea, and so it's not polite to post it anywhere public.
In fact, that is one of the driving reasons I got this site. I
can archive my crackfic here, so people who are interested can read it,
and people who aren't can pass it over for everything else.
