Identifiable Color: Pink
Hobbies: DJing, Listening to Techno
Personality on Earth: Innocent and Awkward
Personality on Lyoko: Determined and self-sacrificing
Interesting Fact: Takes to any activity she sets out to do like a nartural
Fighting Style: Brains Over Brawn
People who are drawn to Aelita also find characters such as Starfire
from Teen Titans appealing as well. In Code Lyoko, Aelita’s character
is a mixture of childlike innocence and frailty along with a strong
sense of loyalty a friendship. This as served as motivation for her
more memorable moments in the show as she will not hesitate to
sacrifice her life for the betterment of mankind, a species that she
herself was not originally part of. This can be considered as one of
her major flaws in her personality as she holds other’s lives in a
higher light over her own. Aelita’s willingness to be a martyr is no
fluke occurrence, there have be countless examples where she has braved
the elements of Lyoko alone to stare down the likes of XANA all in the
sake of keeping her friends and complete strangers safe.
Out of the cast, Aelita is the closet thing to perfection that one can
obtain. She’s sincere, thoughtful and is the epitome of good. Most
people in the Lyoko universe have to make a conscious effort to be like
this but with Aelita it happens out of reflex. Her only glaring fault
in the real world is her naivety which comes from the fact that she has
much to learn about the real world and every new experience is a small
adventure for her which is something fans of all ages can connect with.
There is something admirable in the way that Aelita is always willing
to go into Lyoko despite the fact she has now weapons to defend herself
and runs the risk of facing death with every trip. People have called
the girl foolish for doing so without bothering to see things from her
point of view. In order to save those you love and care about, you have
to plunge into the enemy lines armed only with your natural instincts
to get you through this. With Aelita, the odds are never stacked in her
favor and yet she still goes into Lyoko for the sake of humanity.
Aelita’s method of “combat” is very unorthodox. Unlike the other heros,
she can not engage the enemy regularly as relies on her resourcefulness
to come out on top. It’s very refreshing to see someone fight with
their mind and not just rely on brute strength and physical force to
get the job done.
Voice wise Aelita speaks with a refined elegance and slight maturity
that gives off the impression that she is an individual who is wise
beyond their years yet who still has a passion to learn new things and
broaden her experiences.
Her theme song “Dreams of Innocence” is a warm lullaby song played that
sounds like it came from a music box. It highlights her struggle to
find herself while sorting out the convoluted meaning of her dreams.

Personality on Earth: Blunt and Aggressive
Interesting Fact: Shares the same title from as a character named Mil from XIN
Fighting Style: Unchecked Rage
It’s easy to overlook Clayton’s importance in the Retelling Series as
at first glace he doesn’t seem all that appealing. First introduced as
Dirk’s enforcer in “Teddygodzilla,” Clayton has slowly won over the
hearts of readers through his subtle characterization and down-to-Earth
mannerisms. With Clayton, there is no such thing as being two-faced.
He’s a very straightforward person who doesn’t hide his intentions nor
his true personality like the rest of the cast. If he likes something,
he’ll proclaim it. If he’s angry, he’ll say so. He’s very comfortable
in his own skin and does not put on an act when others are around.
There is nothing extraordinary about Clayton (with the exception of his
size and strength) which is why people find it easy to establish a
connection with him. All that he’s trying to do is make sense of the
confusing situation that has given to him. There is something redeeming
about a fellow who is trying to make best out of what they have despite
the fact they are not young prodigies by birth and have to rely on
their life’s experiences to make heads or tails out of what’s going on.
Unlike most bodyguards seen on TV, Clayton is no lap dog in Dirk’s eye.
He’s seen as an equal and a loyal friend. Clayton is not the type of
person who will do something because he is ordered to but instead looks
for the hidden truth of his actions. He slightly pities Dirk for what
happened to him in the past and sticks by his side since he has no
other friends in Kadic Junior High.
Much to the surprise of Odd, he does have a sense of honor and will
never back down from his word. The most liberating aspect of watching
Clayton in action is the sheer aggression and tenacity he wields in a
fight. Many of us wish we can tap into that feral rage that lurks deep
inside our subconscious and pound the living daylights out of those who
have wronged us before, grabbing whatever weapon that comes in handy to
do so. The channeling of this anger has allowed Clayton to stare down
foes that would make lesser people quake in fear such as giant aliens
and possessed suites of Japanese armor.
Exclusively voiced by Little Vili, Clayton is portrayed and a
no-nonsense person who is more than willing to lay the physical
smackdown on the unlucky person who is foolish enough to anger him.
His theme song “Tough Guy,” carries that same straightforward sprit
that we have grown accustomed to. A very simple song chock full of
subtle aggression it serves as a reminder to never cross the guy.

Identifiable Color: Black
Hobbies: Reading Chinese Literature
Personality on Earth: Cold and Calculating
Interesting Fact: Last name taken from a King of Fighters character named Kim Kap Hwan
Fighting Style: Devastating Blows
The polar opposite of Clayton, Dirk is far less impulsive and violent
as his enforcer but just as imposing and a lot more popular with the
readers and cherished as a fan favorite. Out of the three original
characters introduced into the Retelling Series, Dirk is the least
likely of them to appear in the actual series. Dirk defies the norms of
Code Lyoko; his personality; demeanor; manner of thought and even
wardrobe all would not be seen in the likes of Kadic Junior High.
Where people can connect with the simplicity of Clayton, they are
mystified but Dirk’s involvement in the Retelling Series. When he was
first introduced, he appeared to be a know-nothing bully who would only
be around for a few laughs but through the episodes his character has
grown into far more. Dirk is by far the most complex character of the
Retelling Series. His acts of cunning and his way deceiving people has
impressed those around him. He never limits himself into when handling
a particular situation and relies of trickery, blackmail, interrogation
and of course brute force to come out on top but unlike most
antagonist, Dirk never relishes in his victory and acts in an
indifferent manner. Everyone loves a good bad guy and Dirk fits this
bill perfectly.
However, the true depth in the Korean boy’s character is the slight
shred of humanity and goodness that he still has in him. Senseless
violence does not appeal to him and Dirk always picks and chooses his
battles. It is only when push comes to shove or when he himself is
insulted will any action be taken. Of course there were a few fights he
was involved in that were not provoked and his rational will be exposed
later. Strangely, Dirk and Clayton have found themselves on the same
side as the Lyoko group as many times they oppose them. Logbook was the
first episode where Dirk was helpful both telling Ulrich about Sissi’s
plan and risking his life to break the bus’s window open not to mention
saving Jim from falling outside. As the Retelling Series progresses,
people often ask themselves the question “Is Dirk really a bad guy?” Of
course that answer is open to interpretation.
There is also a subtle soft side to Dirk that helps define his
character and just adds another layer of depth to his complexity. His
manner of dress and actions are always elegant. He moves cut through
the air with a combination of grace and precisionas not a single move
executed his wasted. When he’s not lost in thought Dirk can be seen
reading ancient Chinese novels and other literary works about Eastern
Asian culture.
Voiced by the author G-Force, Dirk has a calm, contemplating voice that
is boarders on being hostile. Defiantly another character you do not
want to mess with.
His theme song “Cunning Deception” is the darkest of the character
songs in the Retelling Series soundtrack. The song paints a vivid
picture of his mind’s gloominess and thought pattern.

Interest Fact: Learns some real world fighting techniques from Yumi in the Retelling Series
Fighting Style: Thought Before Action
There must be an unwritten law for television shows that there must be
a tech head/genius that serves the side of good. One look at Jeremie,
and you can guess in your sleep what role he’s going to fulfill in the
show. Wearing his oval shaped glasses and blue turtleneck sweater,
Jeremie does not appear to be the type who’s going to be winning any
sports contests anytime soon but that’s ok as he has many other
qualities that make up for this.
It is almost impossible for one to go through their school years and
not encounter the snooty whiz kid who behaves in a manner like Mandark
from Dexter’s Laboratory; showcasing a superior attitude and making you
feel like the mental equivalent of a hamster. Jeremie does no such
things. He is kind hearted and always willing to help his friends out
and views his intelligence as just another part of him and does not
flaunt it.
In a strange sense, one can view Jeremie as XANA’s most deadly foe.
Such a comparison seems to be unwarranted due to his characterization
on the show and his physical condition. He can’t destroy monsters on
Lyoko like the others nor can he really fend off a possessed human
being but one must look beyond these shortcomings to see Jeremie’s true
strengths as a person. Jeremie alone is the deciding factor in the
Lyoko group’s war with XANA With the right set of commands Aelita can
be purged of her virus and the evil computer program can be shut down
for good. This is where the real war is fought.
Sadly there are a few fans of the show who just see Jeremie as a
computer geek and do not recognize his courage and determination. The
fate of the world and Aelita’s existence on Earth rests on his
shoulders as he has to race against the clock before XANA gets too
strong to be contained. Jeremie spent countless nights and mornings
toiling away at his computer for Aelita’s materialization program only
to do so again for her anti-virus. XANA wishes to stop the young genius
every which way he can and on many occasions has tried to end the boy’s
life prematurely so that his power can go unchallenged. An average
person would be reduced to a paranoid mental mess, more concerned with
staying alive after coming so close to death so many times. However,
Jeremie just sees these experiences as just yet another obstacle to
overcome.
In Taoism, Jeremie represents the steel element; always determined and
very stubborn when it comes to achieving one’s goal. Jeremie’s
intentions for fighting XANA are indeed noble. No glory, power or
riches can be obtained with his enemy’s destruction for himself. Much
like Wesley from “The Princess Bride” and other heros from fairy tales,
Jeremie is willing to brave any hardship when it comes to Aelita in a
world where keyboards are substituted for swords and a giant black
cloud of fog is the proverbial dragon to slay. Aelita is Jeremie’s
source of inner strength for just the sound of voice as allowed him to
see through the team’s darkest moments and come out on top.
When commanding his friends of Lyoko, Jeremie can be quite fierce and
shows strong leadership qualities. It’s not a rare occurrence for him
to yell at his friends whenever they’re messing up. It’s up to him to
see through XANA’s trickery and the group puts their full trust in his
abilities for he is the only one capable for finding a solution to
their problems.
Jeremie’s voice carries a feel of your good natured smart guy. He
sounds like the type of friend who would help you with your homework or
cheer you up emotionally.
His theme song “Faithful Hacker” depicts the whirlwind pace Jeremie can
work on his computer. With it’s “Mission Impossible” vibe you can sense
the urgency and importance of his work.

Hobbies: Listening to Music, Martial Arts, Video Games
Identifiable Colors: Red, Black and White
Personality on Earth: Clumsy, Offbeat and Impulsive
Personality on Lyoko: Clumsy, Offbeat and Impulsive
Interesting Fact: Bases his Lyoko fighting style off of John Woo action movies
Fighting Style: Hybrid Rush
In the Retelling Series, Jin is the second most popular character (with
Yumi being number one) and is considered to be the most well known ACC
in the Code Lyoko fanfic community. Jin’s appearance in the Lyoko
universe serves a catalyst for change and many readers wish he was in
the actual series as they would love to see him on their television
screens.
Partly one of the reasons why Jin is considered to a “real” Code Lyoko
character is that he is complete. He has faults, strengths, weaknesses,
hopes, dreams, motivations and quirks. You know how the guy looks like,
feel the presence the boy takes up and can hear his voice. Jin
compliment’s the Lyoko universe with his existence and does not
overpower it. He is a living, breathing person in his own right who’s
pluse a reader can pick up in a moment’s notice.
Jin is a hard character who resists boundaries and is a refreshing
character in the Retelling Series. Nothing about him is conventional
nor absolute and can be best described as a “Walking Paradox.” Even his
name defies norms as it is Chinese despite his Japanese ancestry.
Some of the best moments of the Retelling Series are when Jin and Odd
interact with each other because in the end someone is going to end up
laughing out loud. While Odd gets laughs by making witty comebacks and
one-lines, Jin accomplishes the same thing but he is the one who gets
laughed at in the end. His off-topic verbal tangents about video games
and anything else under the sun have become his trademark and readers
love his offbeat pattern of thought. It should be noted that Jin
carries a slight “fan perspective” of Code Lyoko. Many times he cracks
jokes that only viewers of the series would get such as documenting his
life experiences into a twenty-six episode cartoon series or for almost
seeing the Taelia/Aelita acronym. Jin outlook on life is very different
from the rest of the group thanks to the two years he’s spent away from
home and his unique experiences such as him reading the military manual
“The Art of War” by Chinese strategist Sun Tzu.
Code Lyoko aside, Jin draws inspiration from many other works of art
that he was exposed to while in America; some intentional, some not. He
ballroom dances with Aelita to avoid lasers like Vash the Stampede,
slides into rooms like Kramer from Seinfield and always yells out John
Woo’s name whenever he’s doing something cool.
What truly separates Jin from the original cast and allows him to stand
on his own legs is movement. Jin is a very physical person by nature as
everything he does is flashy and done to exaggerated proportions. When
he’s not randomly practicing his moves in public or doing an impromptu
dance number, he’s usually face down on the pavement due to accidental
reasons. Jin’s clumsiness is most evident on Lyoko where he lands on
his face instead of his feet on account of not being able to control
himself in midair. It is painfully obvious that Yumi did not inherit
her grace from her older brother.
If it wasn’t for the return to the past trips, the Ishiyamas would be
bankrupt on account of the huge medical bill Jin would have racked up.
Simply put, Jin gets trashed in the real world quite often. This is an
account of his over protective nature and refusal to give up. As long
as there is a single breath in Jin’s body, he will fight on even when
death is on the line. While Aelita has handed herself onto Death’s
doorstep numerous times, Jin has gone even deeper suffering physical
wounds that would have crippled him for life.Call it bravery or call it
recklessness, it’s up to you.
Though it’s not deliberately mentioned in the Retelling Series, Jin has
a strong sense of justice and does not like to see people wronged. One
of the reasons why he picks fights in the real world is that he
believes that evil must be punished. Combine this with his loyalty to
his friends and you have a formidable opponent.
Although it was Yumi who brought him into the war against XANA, Jin has
now made the fight personal. The main motivation driving Jin forward is
guilt as he indeed has a wounded spirit. He has suffered something in
the past that has consumed his thoughts during his most turbulent times
which drive him to perform acts that could be deemed as insane. Unlike
Jeremie who chooses not to give up do to stubbornness and Aelita’s
friendship, Jin does not quit because he feels that he simply can’t.
This causes many of his strengths to be instruments of his
self-destruction. His loyalty pushes well beyond his breaking point and
causes him to throw himself into danger headlong not caring about the
consequences anymore.
On Lyoko, fans can appreciate what his character can’t do. To put it
simply, Jin can’t fight XANA’s monsters for he will get defeated rather
easily. Even in Lyoko Jin brings something different to the table
offering a new fighting style/character class never seen on Lyoko. His
Lyoko form emphasizes the value of teamwork on the virtual world, for
he is only effective when he’s with his friends. Other ways Jin shows
cooperation with Yumi and the others is through his use of strategy.
New battle plans and formations have been thought of thanks to the
flashes of creativity he instills in the others.
G-Force also voices Jin Ishiyama in the Code Lyoko radioplays. His
voice is brimming with youthful energy and natural sarcasm. Hearing Jin
talk is a completely different experience from just reading his speech
as his voice in fluctuations and changes in tone can not be described
in text alone.
His theme song “High Kick Overdrive” is an ode to his energetic and
heroic ways. It’s a roller coaster ride of adrenaline and
pulse-pounding action. |

Identifiable Color: Purple
Hobbies: Playing the Guitar, Video Games, Watching Movies, Flirting
Personality on Earth: Humourous and Fun Loving
Personality on Lyoko: Adrenalin Junkie
Interesting Fact: Is an avid breakdancer in the Retelling Series
Fighting Style: Reckless Determination
A massively popular character of Code Lyoko and with good reason. With
his lively personality and quirky fashion sense, Odd is a character
that fans from all around the world can connect with. The term “comic
relief” when applied to Odd is a dead on description to his character
as he does help prevent the show from becoming too dramatic for our
taste. Odd is the humorous anchor that prevents Code Lyoko from
becoming an angst ridden series between episodes that show Ulrich
doubting himself or the other relationship problems the cast is having.
If Odd is not the one cracking jokes to make everyone smile, he’s
putting others in situations where laughter is the end result. Even
wallflowers such as Ulrich and Jeremie end up being the catalyst for
giggles as their personalities are a direct clash with everyone’s
favorite purple prankster.
Odd’s unwillingness to take some matters seriously characterizes his brand of courage. Even in the
most grave of situations he’s willing to crack a joke and laugh in the
face of danger. He does not use humor as a mask to hide his
insecurities or his fear, instead it’s a means of defiance to his
enemies letting them know that he can never be broken. Of course we can
not forget the boy’s recklessness, that aspect of Odd’s personality is
impossible to overlook. Odd by far has been virtualized in Lyoko the
greatest amount of times and has undergone the most solo missions than
anyone in the group. On Earth his appetite for danger is not
diminished: staring down a crab and of course being the test subject in
Jeremie’s little experiment with towers.
There’s a certain charm that Odd has that makes viewer feel like he’s
their best friend along with the rest of the cast. Sure he likes to
push their buttons a little bit but in the end he never goes too far
with his jokes and exhibits a fair amount of restraint, except when it
comes to food. This is where his humorous nature comes into play once
again. Besides it being a way to expresses contempt to his enemies, it
is also used to push his motives to his friends. He pushes Ulrich to
ask Yumi out by constantly giving him grief about it and the same can
be said with Aelita and Jeremie. In the end Odd always has the best
intentions when it comes to his friends.
Odd’s character reeks of confidence and he is by far the most open
member of the Lyoko group. While Ulrich, Yumi and Jeremie sometimes
mask their true feelings in a given situation, Odd embraces his without
being over demanding or callous. If one were to ask him his motivation
for a particular deed he will say so without hesitation even when he
knows he’s flat out wrong. Odd character shows us the slight downfall
with having such an extroverted nature and that is through his
interaction with women. Let’s just say that Odd is a bit too daring
when it comes to the dating game and he often lands himself in the
romantic hot seat a little more times than the average person.
If there’s one thing that Odd always does while in Lyoko is have a good
time. To him, this parallel universe full of foes and countless perils
is just one giant, virtual playground in his eyes. Now with the
Overboard at his disposal, Odd’s tendency to goof off is just as deadly
as any Megatank he has squared off in the past. We ourselves can not
help but have a wide smile on our faces when we watch Odd’s fun-loving
antics as he has a strange code of conduct while on Lyoko.
1. Slopes are meant to be slid on
2. Walls must be used as a half-pipe
3. A ramp can never be ignored
4. Taranchula’s are meant to be bounced on Super Mario style.
Of course who can forget the way the boy fights? Odd is a thrill to
watch with his uncanny agility using moves that would belong in
shootout from the Matrix. This whirlwind combination of flips,
handsprings, slides and dives make it look like one gigantic ballet
number with a fancy light show.
Odd’s voice is also plays a key role in cementing his characterization
in the readers mind. Mattew Geczy breathes life into Odd with his
stand-up comic like delivery of his lines which never fails to induce a
strong urge to laugh on our part.
His theme song “Troublemaker” is an impulsive techo-charged song with a
breaker beat backing it up. You can just see him firing Laser Arrows to
this tune. |
