About Me

Hello students, my name is Jim and I've tutored students one on one throughout high school and college. I've also tutored online at algebra.com and over at the Yahoo Answers Math Board. I'm very experienced in tutoring Algebra (pre algebra, algebra 1 and 2), Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus.

If you are struggling with your work, don't hesitate to contact me. If you are still hesitant to take me on as your tutor, then I'll be happy to do one full problem for free (with steps included) to give you a better sample of my work. Also, if you simply have a quick question (eg one that requires a "yes" or "no" answer), then I'd be happy to answer for free.

If you are just getting your feet wet, then here are some sample solutions for you to look over. If you like what you see, then feel free to read on. Otherwise, please leave comments/suggestions for me to improve on. I'm always up to learning new things.

Pricing

There are three options for you to choose from: I charge $15 an hour for a one on one tutoring session, $2 a problem (with steps included), or $1 a problem for the answers only (no steps). I'm leaving it up to you to decide which plan you want. The first choice allows you to go one on one with me while the other two allow you to simply ask specific questions.

How it Works

You have two options: One on One tutoring ($15 an hour) : The first option allows you and me to go one on one through an instant messager (of your choice) and gives you the oportunity to ask any general questions. For instance, if you did not understand a lecture about rational expressions, then the tutoring session would be the best place to ask.

Or....

Specific Problem Solving ($2 a problem): If you have specific problems from a homework set that you need the solutions to, then I can provide the step by step solutions at $2 a problem.
If you only want the answers (ie no steps), then the price is only $1 a problem.

Sending the Problems

Simply email me the problems in either of these ways:
  1. Microsoft Word Format (or any compatible format)
  2. PDF format
  3. Image format, or...
  4. Plain text
The first three are preferred as math notation is hard to write in plain text. However, you are welcome to send me plain text problems as long as I can read and understand them. If I cannot read them, then I'll ask for further clarification. If you are willing to try sending an image, and you have no idea on where to start, then feel free to ask me.

Also, please include when the assignment is due (so I can prioritize).

Note: Most often, the biggest difficulty in math is the notation (how to read and write it). Hopefully, when I help you solve problems, I'll also guide you through learning the language of mathematics. This way you'll have an intuitive understanding of math.

Turn-around Time

Once I receive your questions, please give me some ample time to complete them. If the problems are due in a short period of time (say in a couple of hours), then please mention this in your message. This way I can prioritize your problems. If you aren't in such a hurry, please give me enough time to provide you with detailed steps. If you only want the answer (ie no steps), then I can work much quicker. This means that the price would only be $1 a problem.

Payment Method

I accept PayPal money transfers and might reconsider money orders. I have used money orders in the past, but found them to be too slow and unreliable. Let me know if you have a preference to either method and I'll try to accomodate you.
